Good win. I am scared everytime one of our defenders is one v one. The help was very good though as it is nice to have the vet wing backs. Donovan and Dempsey showed their class. Nice to see Jozy attack with confidence and Aguedola had a couple strong shots. Bradley was better than Jones I think but I expect Jones to improve as his comfort level increase. Howard of course was great and his long kick led quickly to the second goal.

I think it's amazing the difference in quality between a team like Spain and a team like Canada. The US defenders played a ridiculously high line for seemingly the entire game, and it worked tonight - the defenders were agile and deft enough to handle it. Do that against Spain (or Mexico with Chicharito) and you're going to give up some goals.I think the team played well for sure today, but it's not like this is a surprise. This was a "should win" game, and the US took advantage. A game on home field against a lesser opponent.No complaints here, but I'm not exactly reading as much into it as some might be here.

Went to both games at Ford Field tonight with the fam. Plenty of fun and the crowd totally buzzing around altidore howard and dempsey. I forgot to dvr of course. Was the field that bad? I was sitting on the player side right at midfield and their looked to be a real soft spot on the right in front of the canada bench. Damn panamanians spent so much time writhing in agony on the field I thoguth they were going to kill all the grass.

The field looked pretty bad on the TV. The ball took a number of funny bounces...they showed it before the game, it was like a 2-3 inch layer of sod on top of concrete :X

Also, the US MF had sooooo much time on the ball- very little pressure from Canada until their own defensive third makes it easier to do a lot of things on the field. Guys like Jones and Bradley were free to do pretty much anything they wanted- I still really liked how they changed field with it... lots of good overlapping by Cherundolo into space. Whenever I've seen the USMNT live recently, I always find that they play better and with better shape when the 2nd central MF plays higher instead of flat. Jones was clearly a more traditional holding MF with Bradley as the attacking MF- and it worked really well. But see above.I thought both US goals were good quality. Nice, decisive run by Jozy and recognition to quick turn and shoot when nobody followed him into attack (Agudelo ball watching at MF there)... and yeah, should've saved by the GK, but Jozy still created the chance well. REally liked the movement on the 2nd goal with a couple of overlaps and that great ball across the box by Jozy- loved to see Agudelo pounding the goal and was pretty impressed that Dempsey got to the ball AND put it exactly where it needed to go- he made it look a lot easier than that was.That said, I don't recall the US forwards carving out quality chances without quick passes or crosses. I'd like to think these guys could open up a young Canadian defense on their own, but it didn't happen.... and it needs to, IMO.I thought the D looked decent. Boca a step slow, but savvy with field awareness. REam and Goodsen looked good, but a few weak giveaways by Goodsen trying to immitate Ream on possession. Better teams/players will definitely punish those mistakes- even a team like Panama.Oh- Bradley was the MotM for me- all over the field for hte full 90 and really positive with the ball... always putting or trying to put the US in better offesnive situations.

I don't think anybody answered this- I'll give it a go without having thought about it much at all.... One reason could be that national teams don't play that many games in a 4 year stretch compared to clubs. Think of the turnover at club level- not unimaginable for a third of the coaches in the EPL to get canned before the year is out... some after only a handful of games. Then you add in the extra amount of passion countries feel for teh national team, and the pressure for results rises. Also, clubs can look elsewhere for talent, but national teams have to look within their borders unless they're ####### Italy and poach our forwards. That puts the impetus to change poor results on a coach more than players.
dunno... just some late night tired-brain thoughts.

I wasn't too informed on him either. I did talk him up with Tasker the other night. Tasker seems to hold him in high regard and had a lot of good things to say about him. You had a good point. I wasn't sure how much time Modric missed either, so I wanted to find out.

As was I, but as it has done quite often recently my Comcast DVR ruined it for me. I got the first 11 minutes of the pre-game and then nothing. I can't get Uverse quick enough.If anyone can point me towards a link with highlights I would appreciate it.

It is becoming a problem because so many of the big stadiums have field turf now and the "quick" overlay system that they are using is flawed at best. I would rather they stick to the grass field stadiums but that may limit their choices for what they want for some of these games.At least the new KC stadium pitch should look wonderful when they play there next week.Note, the new KC stadium makes it's debut Thursday on ESPN2.

Looking forward to seeing it.Keep in mind- I saw the inaugural game at RBNY stadium and even though it was the first game there, the grass was not good... apparently the close quarters of the stadium and overhang limited the amount of sun hitting parts of it, so the grass died there.
Hopefully KC didn't make that mistake.

I hope Bradley keeps the same lineup for the Panama game on Saturday. It would be nice to see some consistency and no one on the team played bad enough that they should be replaced IMO.
If they can beat Panama, then there will likely be wholesale changes for the last game in which almost everyone who has not played will get a chance I think.
