Speaking of LiveStrong, this is a pretty cool announcement for those that always want to be connected.

==================================================================

Cisco and Sporting Club today announced LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, set to open on June 9, will take advantage of state-of the art Cisco® Connected Sports technologies, giving fans one of the most unique experiences in all of professional soccer.

The stadium provides an intimate and iconic setting for up to 18,467 soccer fans and 25,000 guests for concerts and other types of events. The $200 million venue will be one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world, and is dedicated to creating one of the most engaging and memorable fan experiences. The facility will set a new bar and Cisco StadiumVision and Cisco’s new high-density Wi-Fi solution are at the center of this innovation.

Cisco Connected Sports Solutions deliver high-definition video, digital content and interactive fan services, over a next-generation network, to enrich operations and connect fans with Sporting KC, LIVESTRONG Sporting Park and each other in unique ways.

CREATING THE ULTIMATE FAN EXPERIENCE

• LIVESTRONG Sporting Park will utilize Cisco’s new high-density Wi-Fi technologies to enable fans the ability to have a richer, more interactive, personalized, and social experience using their mobile and handheld devices at the game.

o Spectators will be able to easily utilize their mobile devices and smartphones over the high density Wi-Fi connection at the stadium, enabling them to quickly access and use mobile applications, such as social networking, sports-related and stadium specific mobile platforms.

o This solution, optimized to meet the unique needs of sports and entertainment properties, will also power the park’s point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure for ticket sales, and also be used for devices in luxury suites running interactive Cisco StadiumVision applications, enabling guests the opportunity to further enrich their event experiences by choosing from video options made available via an Apple iPad or Cisco touch screen Internet Protocol (IP) phone.

o The solution will help to ease game-day pressure on cell phone networks, by encouraging fans to use Wi-Fi for Internet connectivity rather than potentially congested mobile data services. This approach aims to keep cellular networks available for fans to text and call throughout the game.

• With over 300 HDTVs throughout the stadium, fans can stay on top of play wherever they may be in the stadium. Monitors in the venue can be centrally managed by Cisco StadiumVision and deliver customized HD video, which can feature out-of-town games and scores, team trivia, weather, traffic and news from around the world, in addition to the action on the pitch.

o Advertisers and sponsors can take advantage of highly targeted activation opportunities in select areas or take over the whole park for unique moments in time.

o Displays in concession areas and other locations throughout the stadium, allow for the flexible and dynamic delivery of digital menu boards and targeted food, beverage and merchandise sales to create a more appealing environment.

o Digital menu boards and signs allow concession managers to notify fans of concession discounts or provide real-time alerts relevant to concession sales. The system can also notify fans during a game of special merchandise and other types of promotions.

• By deploying Cisco’s Connected Sports solutions, the park can be customized to meet the unique needs of each event, creating an unrivaled experience. Sporting Club has built a unique and differentiated offering for its current members and those well in the future.

LIVESTRONG Sporting Park’s core network is architected to support the large volumes of high-definition video and Wi-Fi traffic that are generated on game days. The company is using Cisco Nexus 7000 series switches and the Cisco Unified Computing System to power the next-generation fan experience in the park.

LIVESTRONG Sporting Park is a testament for other venues that are looking for ways to cater to today’s ‘connected fan’ by providing the integrated and memorable experiences they demand.”

that field looked like ###, btw. completely embarrassing that a country as rich as ours, with so many facilities, can't do better.
It is becoming a problem because so many of the big stadiums have field turf now and the "quick" overlay system that they are using is flawed at best. I would rather they stick to the grass field stadiums but that may limit their choices for what they want for some of these games. At least the new KC stadium pitch should look wonderful when they play there next week.Note, the new KC stadium makes it's debut Thursday on ESPN2.
Looking forward to seeing it.Keep in mind- I saw the inaugural game at RBNY stadium and even though it was the first game there, the grass was not good... apparently the close quarters of the stadium and overhang limited the amount of sun hitting parts of it, so the grass died there. Hopefully KC didn't make that mistake.
yeah that is always a concern with some stadiums. Remember how long it took Ajax to find a surface that would live for them? From the eye ball(web cam) test the surface at KC looks sweet, but won't really know until some one digs in with cleats to really see how it holds up.

Looks like Liverpool locked down Jordan Henderson. David N'gog included in a deal to be worth 20M£

some stats via Anfield Index; Christo> hey

A lot of people asking about Modric - His stats below with Henderson in brackets:

Chances made - 66 (82)

Assists - 3 (4)

Goals - 3 (3)

-------

Jordan Henderson made more chances in 2010/11 than: Young, Bale, Nani, Silva, Kuyt, Jarvis, Downing, Johnson, Zog & Lennon
I just had to google Henderson... despite watching a lot of Sunderland this year.how many games did Henderson play compared to Modric? Wasn't Modric hurt for a fair bit this season?
I wasn't too informed on him either. I did talk him up with Tasker the other night. Tasker seems to hold him in high regard and had a lot of good things to say about him. So much so, I'm pretty confident he zipped up after our conversation.
Big fan, I think he has a very bright future. He was consistently Sunderland's best player in nearly all of their games I've seen in recent memory.

One thing I noticed last night is the different mentality between the US and how Mexico and Costa Rica played. Once the US got up by 2 they simply killed the game off, even turning down obvious counter attacks. CR and Mexico both kept charging full speed ahead. Might have had something to do with the fact that CR and Mexico had zero fear of their opponents as they were weaker than Canada.

If Costa Rica can hold Mexico to a draw, then the winner of that group will be based on goal differential (barring an upset), so when Costa Rica put up a 5-0 win, Mexico needed to match it at least. Look for Mexico and Costa Rica to try and do the same thing Thursday before they play each other Sunday. The U.S. got a scheduling advantage by playing their hardest round robin opponent first, soo up 2-0, the U.S. could coast. The U.S. also knew that Panama only got a +1 goal differential in their victory. Now the U.S. can tie Panama and beat Guadaloupe and most likely win the group. (Panama could still win based on goal differential).Goal differential and goals scored also could play a factor in determining the two third place teams that make it, so it never hurts to score as many as you can.

This is a good posting. Although the US does not just have to worry about it's own group right? The better they do (goal differential) I think may determine whether they play A3 or B3. If it does make a difference I think we would rather play El Salvador than Guat(assuming those are the a3 and b3 teams). Although looking at the math I don't think it may matter since we can't control their results.

Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones is undergoing medical at United and is expected to sign a 5 year deal. 16 mill transfer fee is expected.

He chose United over Arsenal with both Liverpool and Tottenham having expressed interest.

Looks like he will join Smalling behind Rio and Vidic in the central defense but has also played some defensive center mid, which is a need for United as well. Seems to be a nice signing. 19 years old. He and Smalling will be the heirs to Rio/Vidic although with Rio's injuries the last season or two, he may see a good amount of time in keeping Rio and Vidic fresh.

Steve Bruce has confirmed exclusively to ESPNsoccernet that Sunderland have launched a £12 million combined bid for three Manchester United players

Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Darron Gibson have been identified as key acquisitions by Bruce.

Sunderland, flush with cash from the recent sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa and the impending departure of Jordan Henderson, are eager to strengthen their squad after struggling with numbers last season.

Bruce, on a family holiday in Portugal, was not prepared to make any official comment until the deals are officially confirmed the details.

Bruce is one of the busiest managers already in the summer transfer window, generating the funds for the swoop on his former club from the sale of Henderson to Liverpool.

ESPNsoccernet understands that Bruce believes he can capture all three United players, but the moves are at an early stage and can only been firmed up once the sale of Henderson is completed.

Sir Alex Ferguson is busy with his own recruiting plans and there is sure to be a flurry of transfer activity at Old Trafford as well as at the Stadium of Light.

With United ready to do business with Sunderland, and the relationship between Bruce and Sir Alex is a very strong one, though the final decision now rests with the three players.

Bruce must feel that they might consider moving en block to Sunderland.

**

He can have Wes Brown. He has been crap for years and now cant stay healthy.

OShea and Gibson? They have contributed but I am not sure if they will have a place in a healthy United side, esp one bringing in more players. 4 mill each seems a bit low, but I guess we shall see....

Assuming the US wins the group, if C3 fails to advance we would play A3 in the second round. If C3 does advance, we'd end up playing whichever of A3/B3 also advanced. So, if we'd prefer to play A3, we should pile on the goals against Panama/Guada. If we prefer to play B3, a more conservative approach would be in order.

Henderson played nearly 500 more minutes than Modric and had a hell of a lot less competition for the ball in Sunderland's MF. Steed Malbranque anyone?

Yet another friendly has been announced. This one will be played in Citi Field (home of the Mets). From the snippet below there should be two more games as well.

The US has to simply be a cash cow at this point. The amount of teams playing here each summer continues to grow. When you couple all of these well attended games to the fact that MLS attendance is also doing very well, it seems like gate attendance for soccer may be at its strongest point ever.

TURIN, Italy — Juventus has announced it will play three exhibitions in the United States this summer.

The 27-time Italian champions will meet Mexican team Club America on July 26 at Citi Field — the home of the New York Mets. Details of the other two matches were still being completed.

Juventus says it will base itself in Philadelphia from July 19 to Aug. 1.

The tour will allow newly hired Juventus manager Antonio Conte to familiarize himself with the squad.

This rumor does not make a lot of sense to me. Floppo could speak to it better than I could but this would seem to be a waste of a DP slot for NY as they already have 3 decent strikers

=========================================================================================================

Chelsea FC striker Nicholas Anelka could be heading to the United States to join up with his former Arsenal team mate Thierry Henry at the New York Red Bulls.

The deal will only go through though if Chelsea can seal Romelu Lukaku’s switch from Anderlecht, negotiations for the youngster dubbed the “The next Didier Drogba” have been going on for some time and the Stamford Bridge club will look to accept a bid for around £5m from the Major League Soccer team should Lukaku agree to personal terms.

For Anelka, the chance of living and playing “soccer” in America could be to much to turn down. Not only is it a chance to live and breath the American dream but it would also mean a tidy retirement package for 32 year old Frenchman.

Nicholas Anelka started his professional career for Paris St. Germain where after just one year, he was very quickly snapped up by Asenal manager Arsene Wenger. Two years later however another switch was on the cards, this time to Spanish giants Real Madrid, this ended after just one more year at the Bernabeu and Anelka was quickly becoming known as a sulker if he could not get his own way.

After a return to PSG and quick spells at Liverpool and Manchester City – possibly his best season to date – he then joined Turkish side Fenerbace for two years and then spent two years at Bolton Wanderers before moving back to London but this time with Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea.

Since joining Chelsea, Anelka has knocked in 47 goals in 116 league appearances and whilst he certainly still has the finishing touches to score more, it is likely that Chelsea will offload the hitman as they look for younger stars for the future.

Should the New York Red Bulls prove successful in acquiring their man then Anelka will join the likes of David Beckham and Thierry Henry who both enjoy the life and football in America. For the Red Bulls however, a partnership of Anelka and Henry twelve years after they first played together will have most MLS fans licking their lips.

If true, I'm torn about this.On the one hand- I like Anelka a lot as a player. Fantastic on the ball, pairs up well with forwards and MFs, and can be ruthlessly efficient in front of goal. Plus, yeah- thinking of the two of them playing together again for my team does get the saliva flowing. On the other... I don't like what I've seen of Anelka's off the field bs. His behavior for France disgusts me... as does a lot of his sulking around the bench. He seems like a tumor for a team's locker-room... but that's at a guess; he might just be extremely serious about things and expresses that seriousness/desire in a way that comes across as sulky/whiney/inappropriate.But personality aside- Rogers has been in form and Agudelo needs minutes. For that matter, DeRo has been playing as more of a forward himself. That's 4 guys up front- StarReds just don't need another forward, especially a DP. They need a MF to get the forwrads the ball and control the game in a way they simply haven't accomplished yet. I actually like a lot of the guys they have in the MF- but they're all winger types or defensive types. I know the true #10 is a rare breed, but for the money they'd be giving Anelka, there MUST be somebody out there that can fit the bill- either a young up-and-comer from overseas or an older, end of the career guy who can help teach Bollouchy (who may or may not grow into that role, although he's got promise) the game while still helping NY win a title in the couple of years they've got left.

I hope Bradley keeps the same lineup for the Panama game on Saturday. It would be nice to see some consistency and no one on the team played bad enough that they should be replaced IMO.If they can beat Panama, then there will likely be wholesale changes for the last game in which almost everyone who has not played will get a chance I think.
Agree with one exception, I wouldn't mind seeing Edu over Jones although Jones played well. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Freddy come in as a sub if we have a comfortable lead.If Jozy showed poorly I would have called for Dempsey to move up top, but he earned his spot as a starter for at least a few more matches.Dolo needed a lot of help from Donovan...I wonder if we need to think about his replacement sooner than later as he gets a bit long in the tooth. Also, I think it's clear that we need Davies sooner than later as Wondo is certainly outclassed at this level.

I think O'Shea is a valuable player for United- not a game-changer by any means, but incredibly versatile. Plus Sir Al seems to really like him. I've not been too impressed by what I've seen of Gibson for United, but can see him offering a lower tier team some quality in the MF. Brown is definitely the most expendable... not sure why'd anyone would want to pay too much for him.btw- I seem to recall being in the minority about Bent's value in that sale/trade. But he payed dividends with goals (9 for Villa, 8 for the black cats) yet again, and Sunderland became anemic after his departure (I know- some key injuries up front). IIRC, Villa was in the drop when Bent came over and ended up mid-table, one place ahead of Sunderland. I'll take this opportunity to give myself a little pat on the back.

Good point about Donovan helping out... but I disagree that it means Cherundolo needs to be replaced. That Canadian winger was fast- supah-dupah fast- and a known threat; LD was there to do his job and help out. I actually thought Cherundolo was fantastic on the day (as well as vs Spain, minus that Torres goal), showing a ton of confidence on and off the ball that the US sorely needs in the back. If anything, his game seems to be improving rather than moving backwards. But yeah- he's getting older, so a replacement is needed eventually. Lichaj or :fingerscrossed: Chandler should be just fine back there... or even Spector, who is still young and offers more ability getting forward than the former. But IMO, that's down the road.IMO, Jones has played better than what I've seen of Edu, and finally seemed to pair well with Bradley... better than Edu did on the day. That said, they all had an infinite amount of time on the ball without pressure, so it remains to be seen which guy makes more sense heading into WCQ.

FUnny too- despite all of our concerns about Bradley's match-fitness after riding the pine in the EPL, he's looked awfully good the last two games.

re: Jozy. He got named MoM, and did some nice things, but I still wasn't all that jazzed with his performance. Given what we've seen him capable of doing, I feel like it's already been years where the expectation far exceeds his typical on-field performance. But it's still a good thing we (or at least I) have such high expectations for him- he's shown a lot of flashes of top-flight class- and I can't wait to see him put it all together more regularly/consistenly.

re: Freddy- I'd imagine that if Adu is showing himself worthy in training, he'll see the field. But it's telling that Sascha is getting the minutes instead. I'm with you in wanting to see him out there- especially because it means that the US will have wrapped things up, either in the game v Panama (not likely) or playing in a less/non-important game vs Guadeloupe (who, IIRC, gave the US a little bit of trouble last go-around).

We all hope he can shine for the US Men the way he did for the US Boys (best US youth player I've ever seen- including LD)... he just hasn't yet, and isn't guaranteed to do so possibly ever given the direction his professional career has taken. But he's still young and I still hope for the best for and from him.

He played well towards the end of the season, but was pretty mediocre for most of it. This was his first complete season in the Premier League so that's not a knock on him. He has good potential, but it's still just potential. He could be the next Bale or the next Gibson. Either way, he isn't even in the same league as someone like Modric.

we need the old Davies. I have to be very honest with you and tell you the current Davies would be worse than Wondo at this point. Now that being said, I still have high hopes that he can regain some of his old form (his on ball skill seems to be the last to come back).in the end I am still hanging my hat on Mwanga. I think he is going to be best prospect we have at striker for some time.

O'Shea did endear himself being able to play multiple positions, BUT without the injuries I dont think he sees much of the field. And his play fell off late in the year. The depth in the back is going to be great with Fabio, Rafael, Smalling, Rio, Vidic, Evra and now Phil Jones coming in. Plus Valencia played in back on several occasions. His versatility will be missed as well as some of the depth he provided, but in reality, a fully healthy United team means he doesnt even see the bench. But SAF may not let him go.And I would pay 12 mill to have someone take Wes Brown away...

:goodposting: ***On the other topic, Anelka to the US seems odd. He still has the skills and scoring ability to help a team playing multiple fronts. I would be surprised to see Chelsea let him go, esp with Torres sucking and Drogba seemingly on his way out. But what do I know? As much as he would raise the level of play and it would be fun to see him paired with Henry, I would hate it if it means less playing time for any potential USMNT stikers who need to play.

btw- I seem to recall being in the minority about Bent's value in that sale/trade.

He still sucks for England. Did you guys see those two horrible misses he had against Switzerland?

Sunderland, flush with cash from the recent sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa and the impending departure of Jordan Henderson, are eager to strengthen their squad after struggling with numbers last season.Bruce, on a family holiday in Portugal, was not prepared to make any official comment until the deals are officially confirmed the details.Bruce is one of the busiest managers already in the summer transfer window, generating the funds for the swoop on his former club from the sale of Henderson to Liverpool.ESPNsoccernet understands that Bruce believes he can capture all three United players, but the moves are at an early stage and can only been firmed up once the sale of Henderson is completed.Sir Alex Ferguson is busy with his own recruiting plans and there is sure to be a flurry of transfer activity at Old Trafford as well as at the Stadium of Light. With United ready to do business with Sunderland, and the relationship between Bruce and Sir Alex is a very strong one, though the final decision now rests with the three players.Bruce must feel that they might consider moving en block to Sunderland. ** He can have Wes Brown. He has been crap for years and now cant stay healthy.OShea and Gibson? They have contributed but I am not sure if they will have a place in a healthy United side, esp one bringing in more players. 4 mill each seems a bit low, but I guess we shall see....
No big deal to see Gibson and Brown go. I'd rather they send Jonny Evans off and keep O'Shea though..

Also, I think it's clear that we need Davies sooner than later as Wondo is certainly outclassed at this level.
we need the old Davies.
Does Salgado figure into that picture at all?

I like Salgado but I think he is a bit too young for this cycle. He is an interesting player who is agile and 6'4 with decent ball skills. But even a very raw Agudelo is still much more polished than Omar is right now. Salgado won't even turn 18 until September. He will be fun to watch mature.

Officials from Puerto Rico have arrived in Switzerland. The media is reporting that they brought a check for $40k with them. If true this could be the wand that makes Warner and Bin Hammam go away for good. Sadly even if true I don't see how it can tie to WC 2022.

Hopefully I can explain this well. One of the most selfish incidents I have seen occurred last night at Crew stadium.

* Jeff Cunningham is 1 goal behind Moreno for the all time lead in MLS goals

* Before the game the Crew coach designated Cunningham as the PK taker. All the fans knew this

* Sure enough a PK was called, but Andres Mendoza immediately picked up the ball to take the PK

* Cunningham approached Mendoza and talked

* Chad Marshall, Crew captain, went to interceded but Cunningham ushered him away and let Mendoza take the kick

* He scored and was subsequently booed by his own fans

* In an incredible show of class Cunningham was the first to congrat him on goal

Here were some quotes

"Sometimes you just have to lead by example and be a servant," Cunningham said. "It's like a child, sometimes they want to do something and you just have to let them. I'm glad he scored. At that point, he made the decision to take the penalty kick and the last thing you want to do is put doubts in his mind. That goal will do (well) for his confidence. We need him to be the (designated player) on this team, and a top player in this league."

Mendoza said he forgot to check the PK list in the locker room.

Asked if he felt picked on by the fans, Mendoza said, "I don't know. Maybe the fans aren't knowledgeable."

=============================

People are saying that Mendoza is starting to enter the usually considered untouchable realm of being as beloved as Lothar Matthaus was by NY fans.

 Jeff Cunningham. Is Mendoza the guy who is absurdly overpaid?

Yup. Might be one of the worst contracts ever for MLS.

I chose to follow Barca a few months ago, specifically because I'm stuck with several have-nots: The A's, the Warriors (I have hope that a move to SF will improve their fortunes), the Niners have been moribund for years. And it. Is. AWESOME. I wish I could've been born a Yankees fan, because it is great.

Reminder: KC vs Chi tonight but the real story is the debut of the gorgeous LiveStrong stadium. This park was built in just 18 months. It looks to be my second favorite after Red Bull Arena.

Game on ESPN2 at 10 eastern

One of my favorite tournaments is coming up soon in Mexico. The U17 WC. The US finalized the roster today.

=================

Cabrera’s team will kick off Group D on June 19 at 7 p.m. ET against the Czech Republic, a game that will be shown live on ESPNU and on tape delay on Galavision from Torreon. On June 22 the U.S. will face Uzbekistan at 4 p.m. ET, live on Galavision and delayed on ESPNU. The final group match against New Zealand on June 26 will be shown live on ESPNU and on tape delay on Galavision at 7 p.m. ET. In addition, every game will be shown live on ESPN3, and fans can also follow along on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer_ynt.

“These are the 21 players who earned the right to represent their country in the World Cup,” said Cabrera. “It’s not us, the coaching staff picking them. They make the decision for us by competing every day. They know they have to compete every day, and every day there is someone challenging for their spot. The roster was open until the last day and these players demonstrated that they were the top in the country, but they also showed the commitment, sacrifice and mentality to represent the United States at this important tournament.”

The U.S. team will depart for Torreon on Friday, June 10, to begin final preparations for its opener nine days later. The 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup features 24 teams playing from June 18-July 10 in seven venues across Mexico: Guadalajara, Mexico City, Morelia, Monterrey, Pachuca, Queretaro and Torreon.

The U.S. qualified for Mexico by winning the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in February. After winning two group games against Cuba and Panama, a thrilling overtime victory in the quarterfinal match against El Salvador sealed the Americans berth to the World Cup. Cabrera’s team went on to win its semifinal match against host Jamaica before a 3-0 overtime victory against Canada gave the United States the regional championship.

The U.S. roster features 18 players who took home the regional crown at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in February.

There are 15 players representing 14 different clubs in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, with Arsenal FC the only club to send two players to Mexico in Paul Arriola and Wade Hamilton.

De Anza Force midfielder Marc Pelosi leads the group with five goals and three assists in eight games played this year. His two goals during qualifying included the game-winner in the quarterfinal match against El Salvador that sealed the USA’s place at the World Cup.

Esteban Rodriguez, the only U.S. player to have played every minute during the CONCACAF championship, and Alejandro Guido, who tallied a goal and two assists during qualifying, will also be key parts of the U.S. attack. In the holding midfield position, Matt Dunn and Andrew Souders, who has seen time both on the back line and in the center of the field, are among team leaders in games played and starts this year. Tarik Salkicic, Nico Melo and Colorado Rapids Academy’s Dillon Serna round out the midfield contingent.

Up front, the U.S. will rely on four players who all have international tournament experience from CONCACAF qualifying. Alfred Koroma has been in Residency since he was 13 years old, and scored twice for the U.S. in Montego Bay while Jack McBean is the lone professional player on the roster, and tallied all three assists in the 3-0 win against Canada in the final. Mario Rodriguez demonstrated his ability to score when it matters, netting the second U.S. goal in the all-important match against El Salvador that sealed the USA’s place in Mexico. Paul Arriola, one of only two players on the roster born in 1995, was part of that championship team, but did not see action during the tournament due to a nagging injury.

On the defensive end, Cabrera will call on six players who have helped the U.S. to a 0.70 goals against average in 2011. Center back Mobi Fehr has appeared in all 10 international games this year and is second on the team in minutes played. Fellow central defender Zach Carroll proved to be a valuable asset during the team’s run through the CONCACAF championship, playing all 90 minutes of the semifinal against Jamaica and all 120 against Canada in the championship two days later.

Outside back Nate Smith started three games at outside back for the U.S. in Jamaica, and joined the attack to score a wonder-goal against Canada in overtime of the final. Kellyn Acosta and Joe Amon shared time during that tournament, and each enter the World Cup with 14 career caps at this level. Alessandro Mion, whose lone international appearance in 2011 came against Mexico in Queretaro in late April, completes the defensive core.

The U.S. will be backstopped by the goalkeeping trio of Kendall McIntosh and Fernando Piña, who have shared time this year, and Hamilton. The group has combined for eight shutouts during the past two years, and in 2011 has allowed only seven goals in 10 international games.

The U.S., the only nation to have qualified for all 14 editions of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, was one of six teams seeded ahead of the draw along with host Mexico, Argentina, England, Germany and Brazil.

The top two teams in each group, plus the four best third-place finishers, advance to the Round of 16. Should the U.S. advance as the top team in Group D, it would play a third-place finisher from either Group B, E or F. If the U.S. advances as the second-place finisher in its group, it would match up against the top team in Group E, which is made up of Germany, Burkina Faso, Panama and Ecuador.

U17-wise, do we stack up with other nations in pretty much the same way the MNT does? Good, but not elite?
I remember in the last U-17 WC, we played Spain in the first game.Went up a goal and a man in the first 10 minutes (kid took a red card and we scored kind of a lucky goal)Then Spain (who's roster consisted almost entirely of Real Madrid and Barca products, including one kid who had already dressed for a champion's league match) proceeded to take our boys to the cleaners for the next 80 minutes. So yeah, pretty much.

I agree with TLEFHere is the U17 World Cup recordhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_U-17_men%27s_national_soccer_team#FIFA_U-17_World_Cup_RecordThe one good result you see was a very good team (DMB, Donovan, Gooch and Convey)It is good to see that the US was seeded for the upcoming tourny though

Oh my. Can they replace these players?

[GOLD CUP] Mexico will be without five players, who have been suspended from its team playing at the Gold Cup after they failed a drug test taken on May 21.

Sinha, Francisco Rodriguez, Edgar Duenas, Christian Bermudez and Guillermo Ochoa are the five players who tested positive for taking the banned substance "Clembuterol".

Rodriguez and Ochoa started in the 5-0 win over El Salvador on Sunday.

How can these teams run at such huge debt rates? The one great thing about the Bundesliga is I believe they have MUCH stricter rules on how teams run the business.

That has a huge impact on the competitiveness of the league. The Bundesliga has had seven different clubs finish in the top three over the past three years. 2009 champion Wolfsburg battled relegation this season. I'm going to try and follow the Bundesliga more closely next season. ESPN3 has a lot of games available.
