looks like United's bid for Nasri was rejected again. Can't say I blame Arsenal for not letting a key guy go to a top league competitor, but their asking price is a bit ridiculous, imho. What really sucks about that, is now United is almost certainly going to make a strong play for the dutch, diving, hobbit.
What's the price?Nasri was easily the team's best player this past season, IMO.
they rejected 20 mil. I'm not sure what they're asking. I think there is a premium if United, Chelsea or Man City ask. I think the reason he was easily the best Gunner was more to attrition than anything else. Gervinho would be a nice pull for Arsenal too. You can say good bye to perennial underachiever Bendtner.
I wouldn't attribute the entire thing to attrition; I think Nasri certainly took a big step forward this year. Sure, Fabregas and RVP missed some time and Vermaelen missed most of the year, but he still significantly outshone his wing counterparts Arshavin and Walcott, the two CMs who I love - Song and Wilshere, and Koscielny, who I thought was quite impressive all year.Maybe it was a combination of both.

Alexis Sanchez with a beautiful goal!!!!

Taking over ever since, drawing to fouls just outside the box and creating another near miss.

Anybody know how he looked in the first half? How did the first half flow in general?

Transfer odds. Kind of interesting:https://www.unibet.com/betting/grid/gridForSearch.odds?searchString=transfer+
Makes me happy to see Liverpool as the second choice for Mata after Valencia. Henry tweeted about him last night.

From the times-

July 8, 2011, 7:23 PMUp Next for U.S.: Rematch With MexicoBy ANDREW DAS¶The United States national team’s first game since the Gold Cup will be a doozy: a rematch of the Gold Cup final with Mexico on Aug. 10 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.¶Mexico won, 4-2, when the teams met last month, a game you may have heard something about. That defeat raised questions about whether Bob Bradley would still be the U.S. coach the next time the team took the field, but since he is quoted in the U.S. Soccer news release, it’s still his job.¶Tickets for the game, starting at $38, go on sale next Friday. Kickoff is at 9 p.m.¶The game will be the first meeting in a friendly for the United States and Mexico since 2008. Some background on the rivalry:¶The match on Aug. 10 will mark the 59th meeting between the U.S.A. and Mexico. The U.S. has a lifetime record of 15-32-11 against Mexico in a series that dates to 1934, but the U.S. has a 13-8-9 advantage in home matches since 1957. Since the rivalry between these two teams began in earnest in 1990, the sides have played 31 times, with the U.S. holding a 13-10-8 advantage.¶U.S. Soccer recently confirmed two games for the national team in September, against Costa Rica at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on Sept. 2, and against Belgium in Brussels on Sept. 6.¶Corner kick: The only question now is: who will be available to play? With most European teams deep into preseason training, do you think either side will field a full-strength lineup? Do you think they have a duty to after the game the teams played at the Gold Cup? It’s not as if the United States and Mexico play all the time.

Exciting women's game w/England and France. France just made it 1-1 in the 88th. Extra time...?
Watching this as well. The equalizer was a great shot. As an aside - I just finished looking up the referee because at the beginning they had her listed as Swedish and she doesn't look it. She's Korean and was adopted by Swedes.

My wife just said if there were a World Cup or league of Senior Citizens soccer I would probably watch that too.

Well, of course I would.

Ashley Young joins the champions on the plane as they head to the States but fellow new signing David De Gea and Phil Jones will join the squad at a later date

Darren Fletcher will miss Manchester United's forthcoming preseason tour as the Premier League champions head to the USA.

The 26-year-old succumbed to a long-term virus that left him sidelined for large parts of last season, including the Champions League final against Barcelona at Wembley.

Fletcher has been spared the demands of transatlantic travel in a bid to help him be fit for the start of the new season with the club hopeful he could feature in Paul Scholes' testimonial against New York Cosmos on August 5 or the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 7.

A club spokesman stated, "Darren [Fletcher] will remain at Carrington to undergo an individualized conditioning program given he missed a large proportion of last season.

"This will help him catch up fitness-wise to the levels of the rest of the team.

"We tried to accelerate things but we want to give him the best opportunity to be fully fit for the new season. We feel a reduction in the amount of time Darren spends travelling will help him achieve this."

Manchester United has also released their squad numbers for the new season, with Ashley Young taking Scholes' No. 18 shirt, David De Gea the new No. 1 left vacant by Edwin van der Sar's retirement, and Phil Jones will take the No. 4 previously worn by Owen Hargreaves.

The champions will take an initial 21-man squad to America, with new signings De Gea and Jones joining the squad later due to their exertions at the U21 European Championships and Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverly and Javier Hernandez also arriving later after being granted extended leave.

The Red Devils are set to play five preseason games in the USA, with New England Revolution their first opponents on July 13.

Manchester United initial pre-season tour squad:

Anders Lindegaard, Ben Amos, Sam Johnstone; Rafael, Fabio, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand; Michael Carrick, Nani, Anderson, Ryan Giggs, Ji-Sung Park, Gabriel Obertan;

Mame Biram Diouf, Federico Macheda, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, Ashley Young.

Barcelona have made an offer to sign Neymar after the Club World Cup, ESPNsoccernet understands.

Real Madrid have, as has been established, already agreed to meet the €45 million buy-out clause for the player and are keen to complete a deal this summer, but there have been indications from Santos that the player wants to stay on until after December's Club World Cup tournament in Japan.

Barca have therefore said that they will wait until January before signing the Brazil international in a bid to beat Madrid to the deal.

A source close to the transfer told ESPNsoccernet:"Real Madrid have a deal in place, but Barcelona are trying to stop it going through this summer, and have put forward their own deal.

"Both clubs have agreed to meet the buy-out clause of €45 million, and while Real will go through with the transfer, there is a suspicion that Barcelona don't have that kind of ready funds and are just trying to stall the move to Real.

It had been widely reported in Brazil that Chelsea were among the clubs to have agreed to meet Neymar's release clause, but it appears that is not the case.

"They have said they won't pay," the source added. "They will not spend that kind of money on a teenager who has not been tried in the Premier League."

Neymar's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, has now confirmed that the player wants to join "the club of his dreams".

"The preference of the child [Neymar] at the moment is Real Madrid," he said. "We're not talking about the economic side - for that matter there is no problem.

"We have to do the best for the boy, so you can make two dreams: the first being a world champion with Santos and make history, and the second dream is go to Real Madrid."

Pretty stoked for Barcelona to roll out their new 1-5-4 formation next year. Pique in defense, Xavi, Busquets, Bale, Iniesta, Fabregas in the midfield, Pedro, Sanchez, Neymar, Villa up front. Messi plays "goalkeeper", but mostly takes up his normal position and runs back to his own for the 2 or 3 times that Barca happens to give up possession per game.

So there is nothing on TV at the moment, so i figure I'll give the women's game a chance. I figured these are probably the 2 best teams and I generally think women's soccer is closer to the mens than most sports (women's hoops is just brutal).

And an own goal within the first 100 seconds. LOL

Lloyd got lucky not to get a 2nd yellow there.

Why take Cheney out here? She's been consistently one of the best American players this tournament.
