BTW- lost in the US Women's win... Mexico takes the u17 WC- again. Keep in mind, the current senior team is made up predominantly from the previous winners and still really young- like young 20s. Add in the best of this current World champion youth squad in 4-8 years, and that 2018 WC team is going to be scary good. SCARY good.

The days of the US competing or even holding their own vs El Tri is going to quickly be a sad, distant memory. As a positive, it will make the occasional results against them that much sweeter.
I agree the 2018 WC team for Mexico is looking to be scary good. But the u17 WC was held in Mexico, and home crowd and home field was obviously a huge advantage. Beating Mexico in Mexico is a major challenge for any team. My guess is that they probably don't get past Germany on a neutral field.

I still don't get this move- I've seen it said here and in news reports that he wants to be closer to his kids/family... so in that way I understand moving to Brazil. But why would he move elsewhere in Europe if it was simply about being closer to his family? And why not just move them to where he lives? Divorced? If so- the ex is such a freak that she doesn't want her cash-cow milking every penny possible for a few years and just suck it up and live overseas?

Been out of the loop here for a bit, but I'll be popping in and out of this thread more now.

La vinotinto play tomorrow against Paraguay for the Group B #1 slot. It'll be a huge boost to VZLA soccer to get a win here, and with they way they've been playing, I think it's possible. Para have a good team, and should attack down the flanks well, but VZLA has been stout on D and are playing more cohesively than I've ever seen them.

I'm bummed I missed the USA/Brazil women's game. Sounds like it was a doozy.

Dude- are you in MD yet? We're serioucly thinking about heading down to the shore for two weeks in August. Cornhole/Party at the Green Turtle to see if we can coerce them to turn one tv on to soccer (which I did 10 years ago during a Raven's game for a US WCQ game- I was not a popular guy) .

I recall reading somewhere that the family isn't interested in living in Manchester, but would be open to a move to Spain or Italy.

Yeah, I'm on the east coast now. Haven't found permanent digs in BMore yet, so we're at my MIL's house in Philly. The wifey started her job yesterday, so she's commuting 3 days a week, and I'll be making frequent trips down there as well (in order to find and secure said digs).I'd definitely be down to cornhole on the shore since I've never been. All I know is the Pacific ocean and Florida...

I am walking into the Man U. practice with my six year old son. Good times!
::jealousandhatingyou::Can't wait for the update!!
It was pretty cool. I think there were about 200-300 people there total all spread out over half the lower level. They did some light drills for a while before playing a quick little game. The whole thing lasted about an hour. After that they all went to the wall and signed autographs for at least 30 minutes. We left and they were still going. That was impressive to me. Rooney looked good as expected. Some dude I didn't recognize who had a Ronaldo spike type haircut REALLY looked good. It seemed like he was a striker. Berb was there which suprised me. I still don't know why he didn't play in the CL final but he was right in the middle of it tonight. The coolest part was watching the keeper drills with my son. Those guys are amazing. My son was practicing all his moves in the aisle as he saw the pros do them and that was cool. It was a night to remember.

Not a big deal, but the StarReds tumble out of the US Open Cup without even putting up a fight. It does kind of bug me that they can't be bothered to even try?

Fire Rout Red Bulls, Advance to US Open Cup SemisBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESSPublished: July 12, 2011 at 8:26 PM ET BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) — Orr Barouch scored twice, following goals by Dominic Oduro and Yamith Cuesta, and the Chicago Fire routed the New York Red Bulls 4-0 in a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match on Tuesday night.Chicago will play either Kansas City or Richmond in the semifinals on Aug. 30.This match was played 2½ hours earlier than scheduled because of power failures following a severe thunderstorm Monday. Toyota Park had power, but officials wanted the crowd of approximately 1,500 to leave in daylight because of disabled traffic lights.Barouch scored in the 51st and 68th minutes, beating goalkeeper Bouda Coundoul first on a rebound, then on a hard 15-yard shot.Oduro scored the only goal of the first half in the seventh minute. He maneuvered through New York's defense and scored from 12 yards. Cuesta headed in Daniel Paladini's pass less than three minutes into the second half. With New York playing mostly reserves, Chicago's Sean Johnson never faced a shot on goal. The Fire pressed the constant attack and recorded 11 shots.New York captain Medhi Ballouchy was the only Red Bulls regular to start. Head coach Hans Backe didn't make the trip, with assistant Mike Petke leading the bench.

Alex Morgan's goal, while it was great to see, was really the result of shoddy keeping. No way a world-class keeper should miss that.

ETA: She should have hit it after her first dribble, when she had a better angle on the goal. She got lucky.

Wambach is really tough to mark and it shows. Her long strides cover a lot of ground and she gets up higher for a header than most keepers can with their arms.

Yeah, I think the French keeper was pretty weak. I think she should also have gotten a hand on the cross that Wambach put in.

Can't argue with results. It was a goal; it was the perfect decision.

Just because it went in doesn't make it the right decision.
