Athletic and Atlético face off for the Europa Cup today in Bucharest. It's estimated that there will be 13,000 for los leones (Athletic) and 9,000 for los colchoneros (Atlético) at the game. Should be fun. I'm nervous. Athletic is out of European play next year unless they win. Atlético can secure Europa (or even CL) depending on how their last game goes even if they lose today.C'mon Falcao! Bring home the silverware to Neptuno!
God dammit, why isn't this on TV?
Here is some info. The 2012 UEFA Europa League Final will be live exclusively on DIRECTV in the U.S.Wednesday May 9 2:30pm ET - Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Club Bilbao - DIRECTV Ch. 481-1 (HD), Ch. 481 (SD)(re-air on DIRECTV at 9pm ET)GOLTV will have a delayed broadcast at 7pm ET
I ####### hate how hard it is to watch these games...

And why is it on a Wednesday? Am I crazy or is this usually on a Saturday?
If memory serves, historically all Euro Cup finals (UEFA Cup, Cup Winners Cup, Champions Cup, etc) were always on Wednesdays. Only relatively recently did the Champions League final switch to a weekend date.

I don't think Wednesday mid-day soccer is very high up on the sports programming guides priority list :shrug:fwiw, I watch probably 75-80% of games online anyway, so whether it's televised or not bears little to no bearing to me.I actually think today's game should be a good one to watch, I hope the teams don't play too tight though as is often the case in championship games.

Legally or through pirated channels?

I hesitate to post this since the Italian media makes the English media look competent but there is a ring of truth to it so why notMilanDiavolo News (@MilanDiavolo)5/8/12 8:01 AMNY Red Bulls representatives have just arrived at Milano for starting negotiations with both Zambrotta & Nesta.
MILAN - Alessandro Nesta will hold a press conference at 14.00 at Milanello on Thursday.Announcing retirement?

Direct TV is awesome when it comes to Europa and Champions League. You can watch almost any game you want and they use the summary window view where you can see all the games playing at once and switch around between them. There are a whole set of channels dedicated to these games. They literally have every single game not on FSC, FSP, ESPN, or FX live.

It has been that way for years too. It was true ten years ago and still true today, if you are a soccer fan, Direct TV is the best platform to have (not including streaming). The gap is not as wide as it used to be though.

2013 U.S. Boys Club Top Player Rankings

Provided by Topdrawersoccer.com.

1. Diego Fagundez

M - New England Revolution, Leominster, Massachusettes

THE SKINNY: Highly skilled player who has already made his first team debut with the Revs. He has good pace that can stretch defenses and consistent finishing ability.

2. Zachary Pfeffer

M - Philadelphia Union, Dresher, Pennsylvnia

THE SKINNY: The first homegrown signing by the Philadelphia Union, Pfeffer is a central midfielder with great passing ability, and is calm and smooth on the ball. Made his professional debut for the Union on Sept. 27, 2011.

3. Jack McBean

F - L.A. Galaxy, Newport Beach, California

THE SKINNY: McBean's physical presence, soft touch, and soccer smarts make him difficult to defend. The punishing striker found success in his MLS debut last year with a goal in his lone start against Houston Dynamo, but he still struggles to find minutes on the talented Galaxy roster in his second professional season.

4. Paul Arriola

F - U.S. U-17s, Chula Vista, California

THE SKINNY: The moments that define Arriola's brilliance are not always flash and awe. The speedy forward's technique is sound, and he strikes the ball as crisply as many veterans of the professional ranks. But truly, it is his quick burst of pace that makes him so coveted by colleges and professional teams.

5. Jordan Allen

MF - Real Salt Lake (AZ), Rochester, New York

THE SKINNY: There are few who can match Allen for talent at the outside winger position, but none who can match him for toughness. The RSL-AZ playmaker has been described as one of the more difficult players to defend in 1v1 situations. With an advanced ability to beat defenders, the University of Virginia commit is on the fast track to a professional future.

6. Kellyn Acosta

D - FC Dallas, Allen, Texas

THE SKINNY: An extremely versatile player with tremendous pace, Acosta was a member of the 2011 U.S. U17 World Cup team where he played left back. He's also played as a defensive midfielder for FC Dallas' youth team, where he can cover tremendous ground and link up play between defense and attack. Verbally committed to Maryland.

7. Adam Najem

MF - New York Red Bulls, Clifton, New Jersey

THE SKINNY: Another technically gifted central midfielder, Najem pulls the strings in the final third, spotting open teammates and looking to deliver that final ball.

8. Colling Martin

MF - D.C. United, Chevy Chase, Maryland

THE SKINNY: The prize possession of the D.C. United Academy, Martin is an attacking midfielder who excels at setting up his teammates almost as well as he can finish chances himself. Verbally committed to Wake Forest, he could end up testing the waters in pro ranks overseas.

9. Marco Delgado

MF - Chivas USA, Glendora, California

THE SKINNY: Delgado delivers a tackle with venom, and zips the ball around the field with the leftover sting. Gifted with tremendous skill but smaller stature, Delgado has continuously outworked opponents on his way to earning a professional contract with Chivas USA. The talented teenager cannot debut with the first team until August per league rules, but Rojiblancos fans should eagerly await his impact in the center of the field.

10. William Raygoza

MF - L.A. Galaxy, El Monte, California

THE SKINNY: The words silky, smooth, and dynamic typically follow when describing Raygoza's game. The center midfielder has shone brightly with the LA Galaxy Academy for the past two seasons leading the club to multiple titles last season. As the heartbeat of the team, Raygoza's vision has enabled many to flourish around him with superb passing and cunning movements.

Yeah I do. It was the Dortmund - Bayern game that I am really peeved about not being able to catch. Should be a good one.

Falcao with the 2nd!!!!! Failure on defense, and Falcao simply scores goals. Great finish and some nifty work in the box again.

There's gonna be some noise to snatch him this offseason IMO.

Every time I watch AM play he plays fantastic. He has to be worth a crap load in the transfer market. Z, any idea where he is in his contract in terms of years left? Seems clear that he will be sold before the contract expires.

Spurs!
Could Spurs afford him? He went to AM for 40 million pounds. If they sell they are going to want more than 50 million pounds I think. Tottenham have not spent more than 17 million pounds on a transfer in their history.

I would imagine they could, but I doubt that they would. I'm really not sure how much they're saving back for the new stadium at this point.

He signed at least a 3 year deal, and it cost Atlético 40m€ for him this last summer. They won't sell him unless they get 55m€ or more.

Damn, that was almost a Bilbao goal in the opening minute of the 1st half.

They're not going to lie down. That's not the way athletic plays.

It is such a massive jump though in size it does make you wonder what that would do to their budget. I know some fans were scared about the 35m rumor for Hazzard would do to the books, I think this would be even more scary unless they have a ton of sales queueed up to offset something this massive.

This should give you some idea on the finances in Spanish football outside of the top 2. Atlético could afford to buy a 40m€ striker, and they're (barely) in 5th right now. Spurs have never even paid anything close to that, and they're in 4th right now.

Although the only reason they could do so is because they sold el Kun for 40m€.

Ok that makes sense. Only a handful of teams in the world would be able to justify that cost, but #### me he might be worth it. He is a little older than you would want for such a massive fee so what ever team takes him will likely not factor in selling him and see if they can get 4 top years out of him.

If Spurs sell Bale, there would be a windfall. They could also shift VdV for less than they paid for him but nowhere near the amount required to sign Falcao.

Blackpool is beating Birmingham City in the away leg of their playoff. It's just as well that the Blues lose to save the embarassment of a newly promoted team under the shadow of a transfer embargo.

The Brums did have one of the craziest seasons in recent memory with a chairman under indictment for money laundering, a Europa League campaign, a decent FA Cup run and the likelihood of their Manager leaving regardless of promotion or not.

Great performance by Atlético. Bilbao could have definitely won this game. They had a ton of shots and a bunch on goal. It was dicey for a while, but they'll be celebrating in Neptuno tonight.

Spurs have been chasing Remy who will cost far less than that. With their new stadium costs they aren't going to be spending that kind of money anytime soon.

Congrats to AM. Well done.

Eephus put the old kiss of death on Blackpool. Hoping Birmingham City can pull this one out.

Blackpool wins 3-2 on aggregate.I would love for them to get back to the Premier League. Holloway was hilarious, and my understanding is that they saved almost all of the TV money they were paid last season, so they would have some cash to spend.
