5/10 Fortuna Düsseldorf over Hertha Berlin 2-15/11 Karlsruher - Jahn Regensburg 1-1Just called a local bar that in the past has shown plenty of soccer and asked about the DFB Pokal today. Their website advertises "If your game is on TV anywhere, we can find it." :wall: Not so. The girl on the phone asked if it was on Fox Soccer because that's the only soccer they really show! Hell, I can do that and I'm not a sports bar!

The game is not on TV here in the states unless they connect ESPN3.com to their tv sets (that would be a pretty cool set up but would likely have to be a hard core soccer bar for that).

The problem is that sports bars have evolved over the years. When they first came out everyone had satellite dishes. Now they all have cable packages. You know this game is on satellite somewhere and bars with satellite dishes would be able to find it. Now unless it is on one of the cable packages, no luck.

I think you may be referring to the old C band satellite dishes (the big huge ones).

Back in the 90's every one internationally was transmitting in that band and if you searched long enough you could find pretty much any game over seas.

With the introduction of KU- band and other similar satellite systems, every one slowly morphed away from transmitting via c band.

One of the reasons the sports bars got rid of the big satellite dishes is that they were no longer worth it because of the extreme lack of content.

Now everything is pretty much CONUS based (continental United States) and if you want to get a game that is not being transmitted on the US airwaves you need to stream it.

I am not a bar goer but if I owned a soccer bar I would find a way to at least hook up ESPN3 to my tv's legally.

I had one of those C band dishes in High School. It was awesome. Any NFL game. New sitcoms a night or two before. Good times...

If true good for Herc, he earned it

Hearing Hérculez Gómez is being called into USMNT camp. (If Santos makes Mexican final wouldn't come in until afterward, obviously.)

Robben puts in the pk and now 1-1!
Did Dortmund's keeper get injured on that or are they just taking him out because he picked up a yellow? Watching with no sound.
Earlier, around 12-15 minute mark, Dortmund's keeper and Gomez collided and he took a knee to the ribs. He was hurt then, but tried to go as long as he could.
Ah, thanks. I turned it on just before the penalty. Nice shot of Merkel sitting next to Low in the crowd.

Dortmund is a team that confuses me.

They've won two straight Bundesliga titles. They've been dominant against Bayern, who is the favorite to win the CL next weekend. They're loaded with great young players. They have an enormous stadium which they regularly pack to capacity. They rank 14th on the list of most valuable European clubs in terms of $$$. It seems like they have everything in place to be a serious European power.

And yet they don't seem to be regarded as a big club. Everything I read about them suggests they're overachieving and that their team will be raided by bigger clubs in the next few years. Why is that?

I find myself surprisingly intrigued with the prospect of local NPSL action this summer. FC Buffalo starts their fourth season tomorrow. Unfortunately, most home games are on Sunday nights, which directly conflicts with the league I play in. I hope to make it to some of their other games though. I've never actually been to one, they play at a large high-school football/soccer field that is used by all of the local high school teams.

Great match and season for Dortmund. Fascinating to hear the announcer say that is the first time in Bayern history that they have lost to a team 5 straight times.

Now on to next week.

Just read a bit about Aberdeen's win in the 1983 Cup Winner's Cup - had no idea they took out Bayern in the Q-finals and Real in the final. Have always thought that had to be up there in terms of Ferguson's titles, but didn't know that much about it until now. Gotta think those guys still can't pay for a drink in Aberdeen.

Bayern is either going to win the Champions League at their own stadium, launching a massive celebration...

Or complete a treble of really frustrating runner-up finishes, probably starting a riot.

Houston breaks in their new stadium with a workman like 1-0 win on a 23 yard shot by Brad Davis who is likely to go down in history as the most underrated/under utilized American ever.

Montreal broke the professional soccer attendance record today in Montreal against LA drawing 60,860 in a 1-1 draw. Becks hit a nice free kick for LA who continues to leak points like a siv.

Can't decide which game to watch tomorrow, will probably go with Arsenal-WBA. I think I'm more interested in the race for third, I just can't see QPR beating City.

I'm going to start off with QPR/City, and stick with it until if/when City puts it away, then probably over to whichever of the #3-#5 games look best.

Big fan of Davis, but he always had a ceiling just below USMNT level. I can't tell you what created that limit- he always had solid skills, work-rate, heart, goal-scoring... but somehow I never saw it translate to the next level. Still a big fan though- the type of player you awlays want on your team.

You are going to watch Spurs/Fulham and like it.

Lee Nguyen is a former US youth international and has picked up 3 senior caps along the years. He spent many years abroad before coming back to sign with MLS this season.

Vancouver picked him up in a weighted lottery and promptly cut him in preseason.

The Revs, always looking for a bargain basement product, picked him up and he has played extremely well for the Revs and has really outplayed Fielhaber in many ways.

Last night Vancouver visited NE and Lee had 2 goals and an assist leading NE to a 4-1 win.

One of the goals will have a chance to be nominated for goal of the year I think. Brilliant strike, see below

I'm jazzed for today's action. Fox is KILLING it with their wall-to-wall coverage. How did they lose the City game to ESPN?
