Ok, with only a few hours to go, the first official announcement has come out for BeIn Sports. I can confirm that the station is active on Direct TV running a still screen with a count down clock. The rumors that it was taking Gol TV's spot at 620 were true. ===================================On August 15th at 7.30pm EST, beIN SPORT, the new 24-hour network dedicated to live and exclusive coverage of the world’s best international sports, will air on DIRECTV, one of the world’s leading providers of digital television entertainment services.beIN SPORT’s exclusive programming will include coverage of the top soccer leagues and tournaments from Europe and South America, including Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue Un, the South American World Cup Qualifiers and Copa America 2015, as well as many other world-class sporting events. The English-language version of beIN SPORT will be offered in HD and SD as part of the DIRECTV Sports Pack. The network will also provide an entirely differentiated Spanish-language channel, beIN SPORT “En Español”, which will be available on DIRECTV Más™ in SD.In addition to its linear TV network, select beIN SPORT content will be available online for DIRECTV customers.
Does this mean I will get both BeIn HD in English and BeIn SD in Spanish showing different games????? :soccerboner:

Bayern apparently set to snag Javi Martinez from Athletic. Llorente also possibly going to either Juve or Arsenal.

Arsenal also reportedly interested in taking Javier Hernandez back from Man U.

Looks like the rumor of Edu at center back was true. Fabian at RB tonight

U.S. SOCCER (@ussoccer)

8/15/12 6:59 PM

#USMNT lineup for #USAvMEX: Howard ©; Johnson, Cameron, Edu, Castillo; Jones, Beckerman, Williams, Torres; Donovan, Gomez

4-0 thumping by MEX in Azteca. They in turn take is more lightly for CONCACAF qualifying in the hex, and we finally snatch a draw in Azteca in 2013.

Honestly, I'm not upset with either RVP or Arsenal for this whole saga. RVP is 29 years old - that's nearly past-your-prime in soccer years. He's been at Arsenal for 8 seasons and he's won 1 trophy - the 04-05 FA Cup (#### the Community Shield, that doesn't count). He probably wants to win something, and he's talented enough to make an impact for a team like United....and it's time to face the facts, aside from an unlikely domestic cup run, Arsenal aren't going to win anything for at least a few years.

From Arsenal's point of view, RVPs value is never going to be higher. Just looking here:

1. He's coming off a career year.

2. He's got 1 year left on his contract

3. He's got an injury history and has only played 40+ games in a season 3 times in his career

4. He's already voiced his displeasure and had the fans turn on him.

I don't think Arsenal had much of a choice. My Twitter feed has been blowing up for weeks now with anti-RVP furor on an hourly basis. Might as well get something for him now rather than having his "not going to re-up with Arsenal status" hanging over the team all year and losing him on a free transfer next summer (assuming this is the case, I don't understand the nuances of Bosman transfers).

Re: Native's point about Arsenal making a bad move and selling him to United...meh. If I had a preference, I wouldn't want him going there if I had a choice, sure, but let's be honest, Arsenal aren't going to be competitive with United regardless. United's margins over Arsenal in the past few years: 19 points, 12 points, 11 points, 18 points, 4 points. Arsenal haven't finished within 10 points of United since 2007-2008. I understand the nature of the game and that a few bounces here or there can turn things on its head, but those are not small margins, and the talent gap gets larger by the year given Arsenal's tight-wad spending. I hate to say it, but they've been playing for third/fourth place for a few years now. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Poor Bilbao, not like they can hit the market to replace these guys.

It's never good when a team's best player has to leave but Arsenal comes out of it with potential successors lined up and a much filthy lucre as could be expected for a 29 year old player on an expiring contract. Wenger learned a lot from last summer and executed his plan on his timetable. Time will tell whether the replacements will succeed but Arsenal almost certainly got the best years of van Persie's career.

Yeah, I'm afraid the gap between the Top 2 and the rest of La Liga's only gotten bigger with Malaga and Athletic not being able to afford their best players. Mexico 2, USA 0.

RVP forced their hand, but it's difficult to see him equaling what he's done this past year. $22m is not a bad haul given he had one year left.Wenger gets a lot of criticism, but he did well to keep the ship steady last year after Nasri and Fabregas left (and retain a CL berth) after they started so poorly. Plenty of thanks to RVP for that, but this summer they made some pretty nice upgrades in terms of attacking talent. Once they reinvest the RVP money, be it here at the deadline (e.g. Llorente), or within the next year or so, they're still going to be a strong team. They're not doing a bad job given that they don't have a bottomless pit of money, and they're playing in a league with a couple teams who do.

I think Wenger did a great job of preparing for RVP's exit this summer and I'd not be surprised at all if they're more dangerous offensively than they were last year after the new guys settle in.

Can the US please bring on somebody for Beckerman?

He repeatedly put himself in the proper position to make a key defensive play and clear the ball out, only to watch the ball hopelessly squirm away from him like a mediocre U8 player.

This is what the USMNT midfield looks like without Bradley.

Edu and Cameron look like the only ones who actually feel like playing.

Donovan in particular looks like he wants to get out of that urine balloon infested stadium ASAP.
