:lmao: Podolski

What a ridiculous game. Blown offsides on the Walcott goal, some unlucky deflections and it's somehow 3-2 with a lot of time left.

Wilshere makes up for his lackluster defending with that run.

That ought to do it. Another 3pts for Arsenal ties them for 5th place with Southampton and Swansea left before the break.

And another!

When have Arsenal ever paid they're players? Even the Wilshire and co. signings were meh. The important contract Wilshire will need to sign is his next one. That's the one Arsenal won't offer and he'll leave at 25yo to someone else.

Walcott is going to look good in Liverpool red
Why would he go to Liverpool? If he leaves Arsenal it will be for money and that pretty much leaves just City or Chelsea. I don't see why Chelsea would want him so it's either City or Arsenal.
If Liverpool can pay Downing, they can pay Walcott :unsure:Reports are that Walcott wants 100k per week, Arsenal are offering 75k. He doesn't want RVP money, other clubs will be in for him.

In general, I agree with you, and I think that's a reason why Wenger needs to stay. Arsenal certainly aren't talent-poor, but Wenger gets a lot out of his guys. Arsenal don't have the luxury of having a "cash is no object" owner like some teams have, and they've said over the years that they are actually trying to run the business like a business and make money.I'm sure Wilshere will be gone when he's a bit older, assuming he's healthy. He's too good not to be. City/United/Chelsea will come calling with a ton of money that Arsenal won't match, and he'll be gone. Walcott doesn't have that same appeal though, I don't think. He's not a superstar who'd start for every team in the Prem, and I hope he realizes that. Assuming he wants to stay in England, his best bet is a team like Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton. If Sturridge to Liverpool happens, he'd be foolish to go there. Walcott says he wants to play out-and-out striker, and I don't see him getting that shot full-time at Spurs with Adebayor and Defoe. Arsenal is a pretty good fit for him. An above-average player for an above-average club.

The Theo to Liverpool rumors seemed much more prevalent before the Sturridge to Liverpool rumors were all but confirmed (and before Sterling signed his deal). I just don't see any way Liverpool pulls the trigger on such similar players.

Is Downing on $100K/week? That's crazy. Gerrard, Carragher, and Cole are probably all around that, but Downing?I wonder what Carroll is on. He's probably not far from that either.

At what point do Arsenal, who have the highest ticket prices in the world, start keeping these guys?

Is it Wenger who won't pay out? Owners? Board?

I imagine the owners drive everything. The board obviously has input but if they were really up in arms about all of this I think the media would have gotten a hold of it by now.Arsenal really hasn't changed much under Wenger. The league has just changed around them. The sugar daddy clubs have inflated wages and have made it more difficult for everybody to keep players. Two mediocre clubs have essentially been thrust into annual title contenders. That's quite a shake-up.Teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham are always going to be fighting for that 4th CL spot. It's probably easier for Tottenham because they don't have quite the expectations, but Liverpool and Arsenal are going to have to get used to it. You can't compete with that kind of money and FFP is there to keep teams from going bankrupt, not overspend. It's easy to absorb losses through the owners via sponsorsips and such as long as they are willing to do it.

The difference in what Walcott wants and what Arsenal are offering 1.3M a year. We're not talking what Nasri was going to get at City or why RVP left. Cesc was always going to go back, that wasn't on anyone I don't think. Is losing Walcott worth Arsenal saving 1.3M a year?

I doubt it, but I have no idea what their wage structure is.

Im constantly amazed at how small top salaries are in comparison to transfer fees.
Walcott is asking for $7-$8MM/year. That's quite a salary and Arsenal is pretty far down on the wage scale of big teams.Teams like RM, Barca, Bayern, Chelsea, City, Milan, etc. are much higher than Arsenal, Liverpool, or even United. I think Barca's average salary is more than what Walcott wants. On a per player basis the only other sports teams that can compete with these guys are organizations like the Yankees or the Lakers.

He's asking for what, 4M pounds per year? His transfer fee would be a multiple of that amount. Messi turned down 30M euro year season from the Russian team, but his buyout was 250M euro - 8 times more than his proposed salary. Ronaldo's 80M pound transfer was for a salary of 17.6M pounds - something Man U wasn't going to pay in the first place. Seems off to me that the system allows for teams to profit so much for the services of players they're unable/unwilling to afford.

Agents, man, agents. They get a percentage of the transfer fee, so the bigger the better. They're partly at fault the for the large buyout clauses.

BTW, the Obama brothers just let Atlético de Madrid to an U12 championship. It's the 3rd U12 championship in a row for them.

We'll see if the Obama brothers can make a splash in the bigs in about 6 years.

Here were the teams that participated:

Group A

Real Madrid CF

RCD Espanyol

Juventus de Turín

Liverpool FC

Group B

At. Madrid

Sevilla FC

Málaga CF

Borussia Dortmund

Group C

FC Barcelona

Valencia CF

Paris Saint Germain

Real Betis Balompié

Any sites cover this? Curious to see if the future of American Soccer, Ben Lederman, was part of the Barca squad and how he fared.

He's asking for just over 5MM and he's worth 15MM at the very most. Players like Ronaldo and Messi aren't going anywhere so their buyout clauses are irrelevant. They are simply too highly priced for any team to afford and they already play for two of the best clubs in the world. The 80MM transfer of Ronaldo was an anomaly. The next closes thing was probably the 50MM transfer of Torres, but that was a billionaire acting out of desperation. I wouldn't expect to see anything like that again for awhile.RVP has to be one of the top twenty players in the world, if not top ten and he went for 24MM. I think Schneider is being shopped at just over 10MM and he's up there as well.

Trying not to get my hopes up but the first real good news for Stewart Holden has come out.

Holden played over an hour in a scrimmage against Wigan and the Bolton manager said he played well and came out of it with no issues with his knee.

They are trying to arrange a couple of more friendlies and hope to have him rejoin the first team by end of January.

What will Arsenal get for Walcott? 10mil? Demba Ba costs 7.5 and is only asking (allegedly) for 65k a week. Walcott is marketing himself as an out and out striker. Let's compare him to some. Who else is available for a cheaper transfer fee and cheaper salary? Llorente? Who make the 100k a week Walcott is asking fro (allegedly)?

Aron Jóhannsson (leading scorer in the Danish league) was called into the January US camp buy JK but he had to turn down the call up due to needing an abdominal hernia surgery.

Llorente would be more expensive on salary and transfer. He's a better and much more complete striker though.I don't think Walcott will get 100K. I imagine he will stay at Arsenal on something like 80K-90K which is probabably a bit high, but it's not absurd.

Nobody else is going to be interested in him at 100K. United, City, and Chelsea don't need him and Liverpool are better off with Sturridge if they want to go that route.

Who was the last big name player to have his contract run out?

Theo's is up in 6 months and he's more likely to get the 100k if, for some reason, he's a free agent. A team could factor in that they didn't have to pay a transfer fee as a wage hike for Walcott. Arsenal will be due whatever they call it for training him over the years, but it won't be greater than 2-3M.

Who was the last big name player to have his contract run out?
Depends what you consider a "big name player". Looking through a list of EPL summer 2012 transfers, some big names who stood out to me as contract expirations include Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, and Hugo Rodallega. Gotta think Drogba is a bigger name than Walcott, and the other two are just as big/nearly as big as he is. Not sure what you're looking for exactly.I'm sure there are more from other leagues, EPL players were easier to find on Google.

Bale looked aghast at the official's decision which means all of his five cautions this season have been for diving – more than any other player in the Premier League.

:lmao: :lmao:
I think it's actually three for diving, but that card was ridiculous today. Sure, he made a bit much of it, but it was not a dive. The defender hit him with his leg and tried to wrap him up.

imo, i wouldn't count Drogba. That wasn't a "will he sign or won't he" iirc, it was well known he was going to cash in somewhere else because of his age. I'd put Walcott quite a bit above the other two, although i didn't know they went out on expired contracts. I like the way Arsenal do certain things, but they owe their fans more. They need to keep these young guys Wenger finds.

Two questions:A. Are you implying Walcott will walk away free?2. Are you calling Walcott a "big name player"?Re: #2 How many Big 4 level Champions League teams give Walcott 90 mins a game most of the time? Especially as striker.

Not saying he will, but it's possible
2. Are you calling Walcott a "big name player"?
I believe he is and should have been playing central a lot sooner than what Wenger has doing to him. When he was bought from Southampton he was a CF there. Not like it's a huge deal to move him central

He wouldn't be the starting striker on any of those teams.

Marca reports that Madrid's in initial talks with Bale.

Are Bale and Ronaldo redundant playing on the left? Does this mean it's likely that Ronaldo's headed elsewhere?

He wouldn't be the starting striker on any of those teams.
That's just not true
Please. You have him listed as replacing the likes of Soldado, Huntelaar, Rondon, etc. That's absurd.
Rondon isn't even with Malaga anymore(assuming we mean the same guy  ) and Walcott has a better goal/game ratio than the other two.also, the 6/11 was just a guess off the top of my head. It's certainly not 0, though
