Pitch sizes can vary, both in terms of length and width, within a relatively small set of parameters. Wider longer pitches favor more movement-oriented, attacking footy, while smaller, narrower pitches favor a more defensive style.
Depends on what you want. The EPL is a lot like the 1980's NFL with a small handful of teams in serious contention to win the league, and everyone else playing for pride or, in this case, other cup competitions or just to survive in the league being relegated, or perhaps qualify for next year's European competitions.
If you want to root for a top team with an excellent chance of winning the league, then you go with Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea.
If you want to root for "big" teams with a lot of history that are good and trying to get back into that elite group, then you go with Arsenal or Liverpool.
If you want an up-and-coming underdog that is fun to watch, Swansea is good. Everton may also qualify here as they have a new manager who likes to play more attractive football, though Everton is a MUCH more established club than Swans.
If you want an obnoxious, Bill Parcells-style manager who plays head games and is a little nuts, then go with Chelsea's Mourinho.

And be sure to read up on the history of any teams before you pick one. Many of them do have unique character.

It's probably best to compare team styles to NFL coaches.
For example: Mourinho's Chelsea = Bill Parcells; Stoke = Marty Schottenheimer; etc.

Looking to get into the EPL this year too since it is now on Fox Sports all the time. Watching Chealsea/Man U right now.
Friends with a few big Arsenal fans and thought about rooting for them. Red Sox fan so I should probably root for Liverpool but I'm not a huge John Henry fan. Decided to go with Tottenham Hotspur. All the Bale transfer talk is interesting. They seem to be a top team but not a Man U/Chelsea/Man City so I don't feel like I am jumping on a huge bandwagon. Also a fan of blue kits.
Other reasons for Tottenham include the Bill Simmons article from 6 years ago or so. Never really watched EPL because of it but it caused me to play as the Spurs whenever I would play games of FIFA. Tottenham Hotspur use to have Robbie Keane so there is an Irish connection and lastly it will be fun to root against my friend because of the rivalry with Arsenal.

Any team will be lucky to get three or so of those in a season. It's a rare play. If I had to pick a team that might produce a few, it might be West Ham if only because they have a physical aerial forward and their manager likes the team to play in lots of crosses.
But I still think the best way to develop an appreciation for soccer and for soccer players is to watch them without trying to fit them into what you like in any sports. A high scoring team is going to average around 2 goals a game in the EPL. There is no "Greatest Show on Turf" type of comparison. Goals are scarce. Only you can decide if you like teams that play possession or teams that try to counter quickly. But you'll soon learn that either of these styles can be effective and either can seem boring.

This is what I did. I've been lurking in here for about a year and watched as many games as I could without really committing to any one team.
I figured out early on that I wanted a team that isn't in danger of relegation but doesn't have oil sheikh or russian mob money propping them up. I finally decided on Arsenal based on Jack Wilshere, style of play and the fact that they are shall we say fiscally responsible despite being a wealthy club.
I was a little afraid of being a bandwagon jumper but I figured choosing a 4th place team criticized for not doing anything to improve the squad isn't exactly like becoming a Steelers fan in the '70s.

If you rule out jumping on a currently elite team's bandwagon, but want to pick a team that's more or less guaranteed to stick around the Premiership (bad teams get kicked out of the league and have to earn their way back in) your choices are fairly limited:
Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and to a lesser extent Everton ... maybe Aston Villa and Fulham too -- if they go down they'll probably come back fairly quickly.

It's great when your team is able to climb back upit's not the worst thing that can happen
Soft spot for orange and black striped teams aside I like the story of Hull's rapid ascent (the first time they came up) and that they were the largest city in England that had not had a Premier League team up until that point. And how Dean Windass came back as an old man to strike the winner to get them into the Premier League after they sold him when we was a young up and comer basically to bail out the team.

So reading about the Tottenham Hotspur transfer rumors and it looks like they got Lamela for £30M. Good player? I know they didn't get Willian so is Lamela a good consolation?

I'm not really sure, but I'm still also stunned/amused that Chelsea jumped in at the last second to buy a good but overpriced player like Willian when they don't really need a winger.

I'm sure that saying so will guarantee a hat trick in the final 30, but I don't remember the last time a team had RVP so completely under control. Through an hour he's hardly seen the ball, let alone be dangerous.

Both of these teams are playing conservatively and maintaining deep back lines. Not an open game at all.
