So did Loic Remy sign a 5 year deal with Liverpool? Boy they are loading up their roster with depth if nothing else. They are going to be two-deep in their front seven (though still nothing for the back line which needs the most help!)

Not yet he hasn't, but he'd be a perfect fit imo and £8M is a steal

Not sure how Borini pulls 14M and they pay just 8M for Remy. Great business right there!

His release clause for Liverpool is only $8MM. It's a sliding scale based upon where the bidding team finished in the league last year ($8MM top 4, $11MM top 6 and $15MM for anyone else). Wenger kept threatening to pay but Remy's off-field problems and wage demand apparently kept him from doing it. Remy's got talent but apparently not enough for teams to put up much of a fight for him.

Does he bite people? Well, there you go.

Seattle plays Spurs today at 4:00pm on ESPN2.

In the past Seattle has played basically reserve teams in these games but I read that they might play more of the first team today at least in first half before the massive amount of subs are used.

Nothing new here but continues to point to Lampard to NYCFC

==========

Frank Lampard poised to join New York City FC in MLS for 2015

By Simon Stone

BBC Sport

Frank Lampard will complete his move to Major League Soccer newcomers New York City next week.

The deal has been widely touted following the 36-year-old's release by Chelsea at the end of last season.

Lampard is currently on a short holiday after playing for England at the World Cup in Brazil.

Frank Lampard's career honours

Champions League win: 2011-12

Europa League win: 2012-13

The midfielder has been impressed by the Manchester City-owned franchise and will join the club for their opening MLS season in 2015.

It has yet to be decided whether Lampard will follow the example of fellow new recruit David Villa by joining NYC's sister club in Melbourne for a short stint in order to keep his fitness levels up.

Lampard may instead opt to remain in the UK to train.

With Filipe Luis signing today, Chelsea look like theyre finished with transfers for this window. Im stoked at Mourinho's comment that he will bring 3-4 U-21's into the roster this year. You have to think Lukaku will stay this season with Ba off to Turkey. Huge news if true. Id also venture to guess that Zouma stays as a CB. Not sure who else might get called up to the first team. Piazon? Chalobah? Christian Atsu?

"The transfer market closes 31 August and we close our market on July 19. We finished the market today.

"The club did fantastic, we knew the targets, we knew the players and the club attacked them and their clubs at a very early stage.

"We got exactly what we need and what we want. The squad is one which I like very much and I look forward to starting the season."

Mourinho added: "I dont think we will sign any more players. The market is open, but we are so happy with what we have. We feel that our squad is what we want

"We don't want a squad of only end products. We also want to bring to the first team, three or four under-21s, we are going to develop players and are happy with this balance we have.
I'm with Cletius in thinking that Fabergas and Costa were bad signings. They did well with everything else though and there starting lineup looks pretty damn good.
For the record:

1. I didnt like the Costa signing either. Given the top talent available this window, I wouldve liked Chelsea to sign a forward who can create their own shot. The formations they play do not always put their forwards in goal scoring positions. That said, Im hopeful he works out.

2. I love the Fabregas signing, particularly if plays in midfield and links the backline and attacking mids together.

3. For years now Chelsea have been talking about developing young talent. Hope this is the year.
Cesc just does not seem like he will fit in the disciplined systems that Jose likes to employ to me. Some of the formations projected have him sitting deeper, which is a mistake.
I dont know. Mourinho has had a lot of success with creative players positioned deeper. Xabi Alonso comes to mind, even though hes a very different player to Fabregas.
Fabregas normally played deeper for Arsenal as well. It's not like Mourinho won't let a CM get goals, Fabregas is going to play the Lamps role.

Portland-Colorado about to start on NBCSN. Ridgewell is playing.
That first goal for Portland had a beautiful build up
The second goal was filthy http://www.gfycat.com/CreamyMajorGermanpinscher
Defender needed to close on that. First touch was a bit of a weak one. Though I suppose the defender may have been okay with letting him shoot from there....whoops.
what did you think of the first goal? Great team play but the flick by Valeri was key

It isn't attacking from the deep that would worry me, but the ability/willingness to defend there.

Does Urruti normally start for the Timbers? They looked like a completely different team after he and Fernandez came on.

He has started 9 out of 16 games.

Ha! Preston North End (one of Moyes' former teams) v Liverpool @ noon on CSN.
Enjoying the LFCTV postgame.

And through the Twitter scroll there I've just found out that Kris Peterson is possibly the new Ronaldo. Good news!

btw... Remy plus 2-6m vs Borini seems like one of those "too good to be true" things.

My Tijuana Xolos had a disappointing start to their Apertura campaign last night. Looked like a preseason game. Sluggish and poor chemistry. They were on their midseason "blow good opportunities" form they we all came to love last year, a Pipa (Benedetto) specialty. Puebla didn't necessarily look great either, but they were able to stab one in, so they got the 3pts in Tijuana despite being a man down for the last 25mins of the game. The red card was an interesting one. A scuffle breaks out from a pretty innocuous tackle. One guy on Puebla goes Beseker with the yelling in the face and gets a below for it. The ref seemingly gets everything back in control then out of nowhere Pipa starts running to the ref pointing at his own face and screaming. They go to the replay and the guy who just got booked for Puebla spits right in Pipa's face. Straight red. Dude now completely flips out for 5+ minutes screaming at the ref. No one on his team can drag him away. Don't know what the hell he was arguing about. He spit in the guy's freaking face.

USMNT notes: Garza played most the game. Looked fine. Not a great game, not a bad one. Scary moment: he gets fouled and is laying there for just a second and a Puebla guy rifles the ball right into the back of his head. Can't believe there was no card for that. Luckily, he seemed fine.

Orozco looked very good. Broke up multiple chances and even created some of his own.

Corona came on in the 80th and only touched the ball twice.

Morata to Juve for 20 million Euros.

They need to sell one of Llorente or Tevez, now right?

And I guess Benz isn't going anywhere.

Both goals were beautiful. Nice team play on one and great individual strike on the other. And boy did Portland need that. They could not drop points again at home.
I was shocked to see it was only Portland's second home victory of the season. Can't believe they've been so mediocre with that home crowd. And both goals were outstanding for different reasons. What a rocket the second one was.

I hope Valeri gets the start in the All Star Game vs Bayern. With Porter as the coach he probably has a good chance to start.

I think Valeri is the most underrated DP the league has ever signed.

Top 20 goals in world cup history. Pretty nice compilation, though they only go as far back as 1970. Some are incredible individual efforts, some are great team efforts and a few are heightened by the magnitude of the moment. Many of them were new to me, which is what I think I enjoyed most.

 to them for including the full Dutch call on #5, Bergkamp's goal. Maybe my favorite call ever.
Dutch is funny.

That was great- thanks for posting.

Maradonna's move at MF to spin and beat two defenders is still the best single play I've ever seen--- especially added into happening in a WC leading to dribbling by the entire England team and scoring.

also still a fan of Pele's too, but Maradonna's is just the best goal evah.
Now when I watch that Maradona goal, I think of this side by side I saw once. It's absolutely amazing how similar they are:

Messi/Maradona side by side

Don't remember seeing this in here:

Chicharito left off the Man U USA preseason tour thingy.

Remember how big this guy was coming off the World Cup 4yrs ago? Then he had a nice debut season for Man U. Now he can't get minutes at club or country. What a weird fall for grace.

ETA:  Right after I post I go to twitter and it says Cheech is going the tour after all.

Galaxy/RKC should be good too, eh?

MLS needs to advertise these games better..promote the heck out of the Ninja Turtles so people can gain interest in their club teams

I am looking forward to the KC LA game.

I don't think you will see any extra promotion until the new TV contract start next year. Having games on the same stations at the same times every Sunday will make it much easier to promote than the different time slots every week that they have now.

Totally understand that, but with he ratings the US games pulled, they could have easily pulled in more viewers by promoting "Matt Besler and Graham Zusi of the mens national team".

Seems like a missed opportunity to keep the momentum of the WC going, no?

They have promoted it where they can.

They don't control the promotion on ESPN. That is up to the broadcast partner to promote and ESPN has never done a good job of promoting MLS where as NBC has done an excellent job.
