Spurs apparently not going to play their late-round WC players tomorrow - so no pre-season games for Lloris and Vertonghen - likely starters, or for Chadli, Dembele, Paulinho. Vorm probably not going to play either, which means Friedel will get one last start at White Hart Lane.

Also, Yedlin was rumored to be at WHL today - I assume this will be announced soon, once they can figure out his work-permit situation, if he needs one and/or if he can get one.

Mateo Musacchio should be announced early next week - he is being held out of Villarreal's pre-season game today.

Morgan Schneiderlin situation is apparently getting nasty - he has told Southampton that he is not ready physically or mentally to play, Southampton has said fine, but he is still not getting sold. I still expect this to get done, but not until the deadline, and not without a lot of bitter comments until then.

I spent some time to set up a spread sheet calculating all 'Pool business this transfer window to date (I know :nerd: :bag: ), and the net is:

Net Result 2014

£6,691,400.00

This is as far as I can tell with reported salaries in the press, and from FM14 for the lesser players :bag:

If this is reasonably true, 'Pool has approximately £47m - £57m left to spend (transfer fees and salaries) if the initial reports on Rodgers total purse is accurate. This doesn't include transfer earnings and salary savings for future outgoing players.

Agger and Lucas would be around £8m in salary savings alone.

Looking at the players rumored to be going out:

rumored fee salary savingsDaniel Agger £15,000,000.00 £4,160,000.00Lucas Leiva £5,000,000.00 £3,900,000.00Oussama Assaidi £7,000,000.00 £1,092,000.00Kolo Toure £3,640,000.00Fabio Borini £14,000,000.00 £2,080,000.00that's £55.8m tied up in 5 players that will see very limited action...

I think a few years back Celtic also was reinstated as we'll but for the Europa League.
Apparently the ineligible player played three whole minutes. UEFA is almost as corrupt as FIFA.
A similar story here with a local high school football team. The team won state by going undefeated, they were undefeated the next season and in the second round of the playoffs when they subbed in a bench warmer for the last few minutes of a blowout win. Turned out the kid was ineligible on a technicality and they were forced out of the playoffs.

Both situations seemingly could be solved with common sense, but it's the responsibility of the coaching/administrative staff to prevent such things, and the rules were broken.

Gals v Quakes was a decent game. LA dominates in the 1st half, but gives up a couple of well taken goals completelyagainst the run of play. ####### Wondo.

Good to see Gonzo back. I think this was his first game since WC?

Zardes continues to confound me. I see so little in his game I like but it is hard to ignore 8 goals in 9 games.

What I"ve seen from Zardes is a consistent dynamism on his runs- the kid powers into diagonal space really well, and gets the ball. Does a decent job holding it up and finding the pass... but I'd like to see a bit quicker decision making when the 1 or 2 touch pass isn't on. Still young, right? I've liked what I've seen- but with the hope that he can build it.

He will be 23 next month.

hmmm.. not "young", but still has a bit of time to develop his game- especially before the next WC. HOpefully playing with LD and Keane (they have a fantastic partnership) will teach him how to time and locate his runs and passes and when to take a man on. Seems like it already has.

. Looks like Lloris will be in the squad today, but not clear if he will play.

He has been given the #1 jersey, now that Gomes has left the team.

The Galaxy fan and US fan in me had a bitter, expletive-filled intersection when he scored that goal. I see that Belgium miss whenever I see him play. Lousy recovery defense by Omar helped that goal happen. Despite the draw, I like what I see from LA right now.

Arsenal looking dangerous vs City!

Sonogo starting up top. Ramsey playing behind the strikers with Ozil out. Cazorla slots home the first. 1-0. Gunners.

No Aguero or Kompany for City. Fernando and Yaya in the middle of the pitch.

I'll try not to make too much out of a community shield win against City's B team, but I was pretty impressed by Arsenal today. Sanchez looked dangerous the entire time but his final pass was lacking. Gibbs looks like he's truly matured into a solid left back....not that he wasn't in the past, but he was superb today. He made a great wing run where he shrugged off Navas at one point like he wasn't even there.

My only two real pressing questions that I noticed were: (1) Joel Campbell was playing behind Giroud, but his touch seemed off....not sure if he was just cold coming in late, or if he doesn't have the touch to play in that role, and (2) Chambers took a dreadful angle against Dzeko on a sideline run...he got lucky it didn't result in a goal. Can't make a play like that at this level.

What channel was this on? I dvr'd a game on NBCS that just said "soccer match". Turns out it was a stupid replay of Liverpool Chelsea. I hard deleted that somma##### real quick.

Thanks. I checked all the NBC, ESPN, and Bein stations.

There are strong rumors that Atlético will sign Raul Jimenez (tall Mexican striker who scored that crucial bicycle kick goal for them in qualifiers). He's young and talented and relatively cheap. So I like the signing. Aupa Atleti! Vamos el tri!

hey Christa... avatar bet over tonight's game?
Lucky for you he was hung over from the great taste
:goodposting:

damn- the Fire are pretty bad. But they got the points, so oh well. Anybody else see the game? Thoughts on the PK (that Shep Messing, MSG RBNY color guy called a travesty). I thought it was the right call.

Sounders v Houston was a hot mess. I really like the way Seattle attack- Dempsey and Martins have a nice rapport. But neither team were able to keep their shape and both kept giving the ball away goofily. And that field... :deadhorse:

Cisshoko to Aston Villa's a done deal!
I got in a "discussion" with a Liverpool fan on Twitter the other day whose position was that Cissokho just never got a chance under Rodgers. Either he was clueless, or they have pretty good fishermen across the pond, too.
Z Machine and I had an in-person conversation about Cissokho this weekend because he wanted to understand the Fever for the Flava meme. I told him that I certainly hadn't seen Cissokho enough to really know if he was all that bad. It's just a funny video.

That field is normally bad but last night it was almost unplayable. The field had to play a big part in the difficulty in passing.

Parts of this were pretty funny.

I think my favorite part was Wilshere covered in Nicoderm patches, and immediately falling down and hurting himself.
