Assuming this report has any real evidence in it (which I am inclined to think it does given how big it is), this is going to cause a huge deal of conflict for Sunil. As a member of the executive committee I am sure he is going to have a chance to read it.

I am unsure how he handles this politically if FIFA is not going to release the report but knowing that Sunil is under a pretty big obligation to represent his region in this mess considering we were one of the countries screwed by this.

I'll be shocked if they do anything. My current assumption is Blatter told Asia and Africa he'd squash the report for their votes. He'll keep this open until that vote and then we will get some statement that the report has been looked at and all is kosher.

FWIW I actually think they may have more trouble with the Russian political situation as 2018 gets closer and may potentially end up having trouble keeping it there.

 
Is that Glazer couple that died in the plane crash related to the United Glazers? I've been waiting for off-color jokes on Twitter about disgruntled United fans being responsible. :oldunsure:

Ronaldinho just signed with Queretaro from Liga MX. Queretaro barely avoided relegation last year. Very odd signing but they must have offered a ton of cash because I am sure plenty of other teams were willing to give him a huge 2 year deal.

He might be 34 but he is the reigning South American player of the year after leading Atletico Mineiro to the Copa Libertadores championship and can obviously still ball.

Nigeria is trailing 1-2 at the half against a very young Congo squad in African Cup of Nations qualifying. The Super Eagles who looked so organized (for them) in Brazil have been really shaky defensively on both goals.

 
Nigeria 2 - Congo 3 at full time. Nigeria looked better in the second half but missed a bunch of opportunities. The wonderfully named Fuad Gbolahan Salami scored for the Super Eagles so there's that.

This sets up an early crucial game for Nigeria on Wednesday at group leaders South Africa.

 
In other AFCON results. Ghana played to a scoreless draw at home vs. Uganda. Ivory Coast came from behind to beat Sierra Leone 2-1. Mali vs Malawi postponed due to torrential rains.

 
What a mess in Toronto.

President announces he is leaving, Defoe wants to go back to England, they fire the coach and have picked up just 1 point in their last 5 games.

They looked to be a lock for the playoffs for the first time and now that is in question.

One of the eight members of FIFA's financial watchdog committee has been arrested by police on suspicion of corruption and money-laundering.

Canover Watson, a businessman from the Cayman Islands and vice-president of the Caribbean Football Union, has denied the allegations.

Watson sits on FIFA's audit and compliance committee, a body set up in 2012 to "ensure the completeness and reliability" of the world governing body's finances. He is a close friend of FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb, a fellow Cayman Islands resident and the president of the CONCACAF confederation of countries from central and North America and the Caribbean.

The 43-year-old was arrested by officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Anti-Corruption Unit and has been released on bail to report back to police on Sept. 29.

The arrest follows following a police investigation into a hospital swipe-card billing system in the Cayman Islands.

According to a police statement, Watson's arrest was for "suspicion of breach of trust contrary to section 13 of the Cayman Islands Anti-Corruption Law, as well as abuse of public office... and conflict of interest," as well as "suspicion of money laundering contrary to section 133 of the Proceeds of Crime Law."

A statement from Watson to media in the Cayman Islands said he denied any wrongdoing.

The statement said: "I make this brief statement following my arrest in relation to suspected offenses contrary to the Anti-Corruption Law.

"The allegations are denied. In due course, at the proper time and in the appropriate forum, I look forward to setting out my position in greater detail. For present purposes since the police investigation is ongoing, I have been advised by my attorneys that it would be inappropriate for me to make further comment."

FIFA was unavailable for comment.
