FA CUP BATTLE

United v Arsenal

Rooney

Young Fellaini Di Maria

Blind Herrera

Shaw rojo Smalling Valencia

Welbeck

Sanchez Ozil Oxlade-Chamberlain

Cazorla Coquelin

Monreal Koscielny Mertesacker Bellerin

so sad the course of this game. Valencia thinks welbeck plays for united and sends him through beautifully.

Di Maria touches ref gets red.

Bellerina should have seen a 2nd yellow.

Fellaini is excellent at fouling but cant win a header to save a life

Arsenal deserved the win. United not quick enough on the ball especially with the big tree ( :fro: ) out there over Mata.

Valencia gifts Arsenal a goal, sadly it was welbeck that had to be the beneficiary. Good for him though.

Smalling is horrible. Sad dive by ADM and Januzaj

Top 4 or else.

Only agree if you are talking about making less mistakes. United had the better of the play until Valencia's brain fart and ADM being a colossal #####. So frustrating, but on one hand slightly encouraging for the run in. I was really impressed with the intensity and closing down all game.

I felt like I was gonna #### my pants for like that entire game. Ever since the Welbeck goal, Arsenal just looked so collectively nervous. United still had the lion's share of possession even after Di Maria got sent off.

He didn't have the best game today, but am I the only one who thinks Francis Coquelin has been fantastic since January? He's turned into quite a player.

Is Coquelin French for booking?

I was really falling in love with him until the Monaco debacle. It isn't all on him, but, whoof.

He's been what they have needed since Flamini has fallen off. Arteta was never a true DM. I think the revelation has been putting Santi beside him, he has flourished in that role. He always seems to be in the perfect position offensively and defensively. Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta, and Flamini should only see action at those spots due to rest or the inevitable injury.

I'm not smart enough with my Soccer knowledge to know how Ozil is doing. On one hand the commentators usually #### all over him, but after the game all the stats point to him having a good game. For me personally it looks like he's not giving it all. I don't know if it's high expectations or just seeing Alexis next to him going 100 mph all the time.

I really hope the Ox injury isn't serious, he's been great. If he is injured, hopefully Theo is ready to go 90.

Subtleties often escape me as well but here's Grantland's Mike Goodman's take on Ozil.

I often wonder with a guy like Ozil, who plays wide IIRC- they are usually NOT in the TV frame, so makes it more difficult for the TV viewer to gauge just how much affect they're having on the game when the ball isn't near or with them.

That said- there are wide guys who constantly show up on the tv screen, IMO, because they work their way into the game and make the game (and camera) come to them. Ozil doesn't appear to be one of those guys. Doesn't have to mean he's not useful- just not that type of player. Who am I kidding... he's a great player- fantastic skills and vision- but we're all left wondering what if he was that type of player- how much better could he (and Arsenal) be.

I have never seen a player look as consistently depressed to be playing top-level soccer on the international stage as Mesut Ozil looks every game.

I agree with this article. I'm usually a big stats geek, but I just have yet to see how our traditional American sports stats-driven mindset translates to soccer in terms of a fantasy league or something. There are so many intangibles and small things that players - like Ozil - do that never show up on a scoresheet. He is and has been, IMO, a fantastic player (though I do feel he went through a slump at the end of last season and into the World Cup). He does, however, come off to me like he's depressed a lot. A lot of putting his head down after he loses possession, not tracking back at times, things like that. I think his body language doesn't do him any favors in winning over Arsenal fans.

The bold below might be an indication that the SAP experiment worked

========================================

UniMás’ broadcast of the MLS season opener, LA Galaxy vs. Chicago Fire, delivered gains of +44% among Total Viewers and +111% among Adults 18-49 compared to last season’s MLS opener, Chicago Fire vs. Chivas USA on March 9, 2014, on UniMás. The historic match marked the first time a major U.S. sports league debuted a season exclusively on a Hispanic network. The match aired on UniMás, simulcast on UDN, from 10:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 and included an English-language SAP option, also a first for sports broadcasters in the U.S.

The match averaged 341,000 Total Viewers and 215,000 Adults 18-49.

The match out-performed the 2014 MLS season opener (Sporting Kansas City vs. Seattle Sounders) on NBCSN among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 by +3% and +2% respectively.

The match ranks as the most-viewed MLS match among non-Hispanics ever on a Spanish-Language network.

Non-Hispanics made up 30% of the Adults 18-49 audience as well as 26% of the Total Viewers, besting year ago average on UniMás (3% for both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49).

How do they know how many non-Hispanics were watching? As discussed in here, many of us non Spanish speakers preferred the audio in Spanish.

Good numbers though. I for one am glad there are now going to be regular MLS games on national TV.

Not sure better of the play is a good thing. They do not generate enough shots which is especially glaring with the amount of possession. 10 shots with 5 on goal is misleading. Some soft headers on goal inflate that. ADM and Fellani both had prime shooting opps and didnt take them. They also give too much space at the back and De Gea is the reason for their #3 defensive ranking, not the defenders.

Also, just pointing out a fun fact, this ref gave ADM a 2nd yellow for pulling the refs shirt. Minor, but still bookable. Same ref who did NOT give a second yellow to Hart for going head to head with the ref. Major and nothing.

Consistency at its best. And NO i am not saying he shouldnt have booked ADM since he didnt book Hart, but just the fact that a shirt pull got it but a head butt didnt. Guess he learned his lesson.

Count me in the group that thought that United looked better than Arsenal for the majority of the game yesterday. But I'm not really one to criticize Arsenal for a big win over United at Old Trafford....those have been rarer and rarer over the years.

Nielsen tracks hispanic households as part of their demographics.

I might be misreading your last sentence but regular season MLS games have been on national TV since the league started in 1996.

This is the first time that all broadcast partners have a dedicated window so that the games are on at a similar time every week which is a nice addition.

The Orlando City owner gave an interview yesterday where he said they might have misjudged the market.

While admitting it was a good problem to have, they need to figure out what to do about capacity both in their temporary home and in the new stadium.

Originally they intended to build a 19.5k stadium and hold the Citrus bowl capacity to 20k to match. The ticket sale demand is showing them they can open up more of the Citrus bowl but then they run the risk of not having those seats available for the new stadium.

He said the new stadium was designed to be easily expanded to 27kish so they now need to decide whether to go ahead and build bigger immediately or not.

This is a tough decision because you never know if the initial response is just curiosity or if you really have a base that could get 25k a game.

IMO build it to 19.5k, and expand if demand is really there after a couple years. There are way worse problems than demand > supply for your product, and they won't really know how things are going attendance-wise until they go through a FL summer and the novelty wears off.

That is how I lean as well.

I can understand the thought process though as I bet building once big is going to be much cheaper than building once small and the upgrading.

Toronto is upscaling their stadium right now. The upgrade is costing more I think than the original stadium cost.

If they decide to wait it out, how would you handle capacity at Citrus Bowl? Just sell every ticket you can or limit to some artificial capacity like Seattle and Vancouver do?

Well I always had a hard time finding games in the past. I guess I'm looking forward to knowing that Friday night and Sunday night will have games.

Yeah- going to be cheaper and easier to build it all now.

that said- I agree with rob (and you)... build it the way it was originally conceived and see where you stand after a couple of seasons. I wouldn't go near that place in the dead of summer... but maybe their fans are more committed than I'm guessing.

I would start with a set number at the Citrus Bowl... 20, 25k whatever adjusted to whatever demand there is based on the first few games.
