Barça just looks unstoppable right now. They are going to "focus on champion's league" when they lock up the la liga title with 4 games left to play.

Atlético have won 5 straight in la liga and have gained zero ground on them.

Another clean sheet for my boys though. That's 12 allowed goals in 29 league games, 4 allowed to Barça in two games. None of you EPL teams better come for Saúl this summer though. Every week he looks more and more entrenched as part of Atleti's future midfield. I wasn't a believer even a few weeks back but he's on a great run of form right now.  Lots of rumors that he'll get called into Del Bosque's EURO squad. As if Spain didn't have enough midfielders. He's a different style of player than most other Spaniards though. More direct, more covering than most, and able to find the net without a million touches and the perfect pass.

I know it's only week 2 and IIRC, they started of slowly last season too.... but- the RBs look Fire-esque with their level of suckitude.

I have not seen either of the NYR games yet, but I have read that Montreal is really firing on all cylinders so far, and that is with out Drogba yet who is still in avoiding field turf mode.

Houston is the team that I can't figure out so far.  Most people figured they would easily be bottom of the west table but they have already scored 8 goals in 2 games and just destroyed one of the favorites this year in Dallas 5-0 yesterday.

The whole league is wide open as usual but I think the East is going to be a free for all.  I went to the Revs DC game yesterday and both teams looked "meh" at best and both were playoff teams last year.  I think the East might see a good amount of turnover come the end of the season.

I read one interesting stat about MLS regarding last year.

Not one single team in the league had a winning road record.  I guess this is an incredibly rare occurrence in soccer (probably because most leagues have a couple of super dominant teams that can still get winning records on the road no matter the seasons variance).

In terms of MLS, I chalk it up to 15% parity and 85% arguably the toughest travel schedule in world soccer.

Montreal looked fine. Rbs IN both games have been a complete mess.

I think I'd flip those %s.

Soccer has a HUGE home-field advantage worldwide.  So you'd expect to see something like what you describe in the designed-for-parity MLS.

Also, IIRC there's a relationship between distance from the visitors home field and the strength of HFA.  Which is where the lengthy trips might influence it some.

Love Wenger and have always thought the criticisms were almost entirely unfair, but if Arsenal go out to Watford at home and Leicester City win the league, I could see him getting the sack.

I read that MLS easily trumped both Russia and Brazil in this regard in terms of having the most travel of any soccer league.

The enormous spending difference between teams these days makes this a much less factor than before IMO.  There are teams spending 4, 5 and almost 6 times as much as other teams in the league.

The top spending team last year had a salary of over $20 million while the bottom teams only spent around $3.5 million.

MLS still has more parity than other leagues though, of which most are very very top heavy.  MLS's parity has much less to do with spending though these days and I don't know if many people understand that as they still live under the impression that all MLS teams spend the same amount because of the salary cap.

Alright, gentlemen (:snicker:)

Just saw this email this morning and figured what the hell, let's see if any of you guys are interested.  The club my son plays for completely flooded a couple months ago.  It's actually the same location where St. Louis FC plays as well.  Amazingly, they've got it almost completely restored but it obviously cost a significant amount and they just sent an email about an online auction today to help raise a bit more for it.  That said, I'm not putting this link here for donations but moreso because some of the items are pretty cool and some of you may be interested.  Bonus is fundraiser part of it.

Here is the list of some items that are up for bid.  There's even stuff for Christo (no, not fat chicks, but I do see some FIRE!).  Here's  Here's the link for anyone interested at all:

that second Wat goal was a freaking hammer.

and Gabriel lucky to stay on the field- even if he only (deservedly) drew yellow for his two footed studs up jump-in... his later challenge on the side line was with full intent to harm- got the ball, but ugly tackle for the modern age.

eta: that came across as if I think he only deserved a yellow- IMO, it was a red, but a yellow at least would be something, and definitely deserved.

Close one for the Hammers there.  Payet should have probably stayed on his feet.

Edit:  Made up for it there - fantastic strike.

And what a goal from Payet.
That's  amazing.  There was pretty much the smallest window to be able to both beat DeGea (who covered a ton of area) and still squeeze it in off the post.  Just absurd.  Maybe even more than Ozil or Mahrez, Payet has been the most valuable player in England this year.  With him, West Ham have a shot against anyone.  Without him, they're dog crap.

That is the one real item that seems to stand out this year in the EPL.  With the amazing amount of money every team has access to, there are more game changers to go around with out a small handful of teams hording them.  It makes for a more interesting league for me.

OK, for those of you interested in a draft, what do you want to do?  Current players?  All time players?  Roster requirements (caps on players from one nation or team or time period or whatever)?  Stadiums?  Managers?

I generally favor less rules and less categories, but I know that for some getting sniped is part of the appeal.
This started by talking about current rankings. I'm in for current best xi

I'm not advocating for more playing time or anything.  He was only one of the few guys yesterday that showed some fight and put in a shift.  Mata was especially horrible.  When I opened my browser and saw him staring back at me I had to change my avatar.
Beautiful free kick by Payet.  Great goal.  Too bad he should have been off for a 2nd yellow.  If that isnt a PK its a dive and a booking.  2 yellows he isnt even on the pitch to flop (and get his 3rd yellow) to draw the free kick to get the goal.

Great goal by Martial.  Yes Schweini clattered into the gk, but its after getting tangled up with the defender and being turned into him.

However, West Ham deserved the game.  They were the better team (an opponent better then United AGAIN, for shame).

And Bonzai, you must be seeing the same thing as LVG and something totally different then myself (and most fans on twitter) with Fellaini.  I am not sure whats worse, the fact that he is on the pitch at all or that LVG keeps saying how good he played.  He was horrible again.  Bad passing, missed headers, fouls and a booking.  Sure he works hard to wander all over, foul people, miss headers, let people run right by him... He doesnt even anticipate a ball hitting the ground.  He lets the other team beat him to it.  It made me laugh so hard when the announcers were questioning why you would sub him on an attacking set piece.  He has offered nothing in the air.  He won 1 flick on and missed most other headers around the park.  With the exception of Andy Carroll, no one on West Ham (or most teams) should beat him in the air.  But they do.  Constantly.  Its no surprise they have looked horrible in his return.

That's all he does, he's a goon.

So if  "puts in a shift" means; "Sucks at actual footy so just throws elbows and loses headers to Joe Allen"

then we agree

and now he looks to escape a ban for elbowing Can and may be avail Thursday.   :wall:

Loved the United fans "cheering" when he went off yesterday.  And LVG couldn't understand why.
