Saw there were no bones involved, are you saying no torn ligaments either?  Haven't seen that yet.

Would be sweet if he continued to be an impact player.  Coutinho, Can, Origi, Sakho maybe a few others.  Decent transfers in lately.

Speaking of... if Lallana could finish he'd be a star.  He gets himself into so many good positions.
Ankle ligaments get a fair amount of blood flow and can heal (unlike knee ligaments).  If he didn't break anything he likely won't be out a long time.

Just looked him up on Whoscored and saw they list strengths as defense and interceptions.  I thought that might be true -- he seems to be buzzing around the ball a lot.

At first glance he reminded me of Steve McManaman -- who I always thought of as a bit overrated and more of a luxury than anything else.  But I've been coming around to the idea that maybe Lallana does enough dirty work and link up stuff to make himself worthwhile.  Not surprised to see he's rated pretty highly.

Is Origi >> Lukaku a real thing?  Maybe I'm jaded and still haven't come around far enough on Divock, but that seems kind of out there to me.
I think so, Understanding Brazil was almost 2 years ago, Lukaku started the first few games but was supplanted by the end. Origi started over a healthy Lukaku for both knock-out games in Brazil. Lukaku was subbed on in both.

I can't yet prove it with statistics, but I just think Origi is better.  He's got all the tools.  Lukaku seems like a better version of Benteke, but admittedly I don't sit around watching Everton games much.

When it comes to ankle sprains, I think the terminology used over there is just different.  They use the words "ligament damage", which sounds bad.  In reality, it's just a high ankle sprain.  As anyone that has played NFL fantasy football knows, a high ankle sprain is a nasty injury that basically carries a 4-6 week timeframe.  I think Divock, like Emre, is done for the year, but should be ok for the Euros.

Slight chance both could return for the final game or the EL final, but it seems like a final would be a tough game to step into if you've been down with an ankle injury for a month.

In all seriousness, if I were fans of the traditional (at least traditional in the past decade) "big four", I'd be quite nervous right now.

Tott and LIV are building juggernauts.  Both coaches are total studs and both teams have plenty of money to build great rosters.  Let's face it, the true world class players are going to go to Barca/Real/Bayern.

You have to be impressed with Tott.  They seemed to be a running joke last year and this year they are clearly ending the season as the best team in the EPL.  Almost no one expects Tott to lose another point.

With Liverpool, what Klopp has done is absolutely phenomenal.  I know Liverpool haters strongly dislike the team and are unlikely to give credit where it's due, (just as LIV fans would do for ManU for instance), but look at the facts.  This was a team that had no idea how to score goals when Klopp took over.  Moreno, Mignolet, Lallana, Milner, Lovren, Sakho, Allen, Lucas...these guys were considered scrubs by most fans.  Firmino was languishing under Brendan.  Sturridge couldn't get healthy due to being under a manager that babied him.

Yet Klopp comes in, totally turns the team around, turns Firmino and Milner into assist machines and here we are in April and Liverpool is one of the most dynamic offenses in the EPL.  And he hasn't done a single thing in the transfer market, aside from two purchases that aren't even here yet.

Arsenal, Chelsea and ManU are in trouble, and they'll likely respond by spending big money this off-season.  Arsenal can't coast anymore.  Competition is always a good thing and Tott/LIV are bringing it.

This summer will be fascinating.

Gator... does anyone you know of keep a comprehensive list of Liverpool players, broadly defined?  1st team, reserves, youth, loanees, etc?

I'm imaging something like Soccer America's Top 100 US players.  Have started trying to keep track of some of them, but it's so fragmented.

ETA: close enough.

Not off the top of my head, but I've seen something like that before...I'll Terry and dig it up

I just watched the Totti goals.  Why on earth are the stands so empty?  It seemed as dead as a Man City CL game in that stadium?

I went over to some Arsenal fan forums for some pre-match reading.  They are not a happy bunch.  If they get down early today or can't score quickly, it's gonna get toxic.

Sounds like Origi avoided serious injury, but will still be out for the rest of the season now if Twitter can be believed.  Also saw this...

Origi 11goals 33 apps, £8m

Martial 13 goals 44 apps, £58m

And only 8 months separate the two as well.

Hey guys? Can we talk about Liverpool for a few pages? Oh great!
Arsenal are holding onto fourth, neat and boring

they're just happy to be in the CL and never threaten winning it...rinse repeat

It's going to awesome when Liverpool and City win the European cups and Arsenal miss out on their Kronke's cash cow.

:lmao:  What are Liverpool happy with? When they finally put a decent run together they sold their best player. Get used to that.

Because the Curva Sud is protesting the installation of artificial barriers in the most hallowed of all fan sections in Italian football, which has led to a major schism between the Roma Ultras & tifosi, & the relatively new American ownership, who are also perceived to be forcing Totti out without even a one year renewal of his contract next year, even though it would basically only be a farewell "tour"... that's why the last couple of weeks have been so phenomenal.  Just think of Gerrard...only five years older & basically saving Roma's CL ambitions single-handedly, instead of slipping up (sorry, Gator)

looks like a good piece of business there... And Martial has been well worth the money in this waste of a season.

I've been amazed by Martial's import, especially at that age...I believe he's created a significant # of chances too,(at least the games I've seen) in such a stagnant & dormant "attack"...he also responded well after his early flair/play leveled off...he seems to have gotten a second wind, even more impressive considering his age & pressure of where he's playing.

Until Rashford joined him he really was the best field player and the only one creating any attack.  Now they have a little more going forward.  Hopefully the two of them progress and grow as they get into their 20s and dont go full Januzaj/Macheda

whoa. forgot about him. didn't he score in his first appearance as a 12 yo or something?

but of course, united will always have Bebe.

Had the winner vs Aston Villa and scored again the next game to keep the title run going.  Then poof, he was gone.

ahh Bebe.  One of the only signings made by SAF that he did not see in person!

wasn't bebe a youtube "street"/skills guy? without a doubt, the single worst "professional" I've ever seen. and I've seen Zardoz.

For pure "what the hell did Sir Alex ever see in him" factor, it's hard to beat Gabriel Obertan.  When he got cancer with Newcastle last year, I was like "wait, he's not in the French Third Division by now?"

Pretty sure that was Jonas Gutierrez
jonas was the preying mantis looking guy when he ran? he's got cancer? I always liked him... seemed like he really tried. not so great at the sport- but seemed to milk every inch of ability out of himself. and he ran funny. IIRC, didn't have a neck?

Jonas had testicular cancer, but he recovered.  He's with Deportivo now.
