In CL, some groups already have the top two locked down (Group A and Group D), while others (Group B and Group E) are wide open.  Aside from the regular top teams, Sevilla Leicester, BvB, and Arsenal. are all playing well.  Spurs, PSV, and Lyon are all not playing up to their potential.

Other than Bayern at the top, the Bundesliga table looks very strange today. Rasenballsport Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Cologne and Herta all in the euro spots up top, while Wolfsburg is in the relegation zone, Bremen and Schalke just 1-2 points clear and Gladbach, Leverkusen also in the bottom half of the table.

wow...

so Harvard's soccer team has forfeited their season after revelations of several years' worth of "scouting reports" of girls on campus (maybe on the women's soccer team). they were sitting in 1st in the ivies- and with a solid enough record in total to probably qualify for NCAAs (my boys in blue are right behind them with their best season so far since my last year).

the espn article didn't get into too many details, but it got me thinking... I'm sure this kind of thing happens and has happened everywhere- just not getting published to the internet (for smart kids, they are really dumb). I can remember a ton of similar types of conversations- in locker room, around campus, on practice bus (shared by all sports/genders).... but the climate has obviously changed. granted- with no knowledge of the specifics here.

eta: columbia was supposed to play them tomorrow in what should have been with major title implications! game has been cancelled...

If you are ever feeling sad, Just remember that there are Manchester United fans who will vote for "Manchester United's Premier League Goal of the Month Award"

And, they only scored 1 goal in October....

:wall:  This is amazing...

And I fully expect Bob Bradley to get his first EPL win this weekend when he sees United's lineup.
Pogba expected to be out.  Herrera suspended.  Schneiderlin & Mkhy disliked by TSO...

I expect we will see a lineup with Zlatan, Rooney, AND Fellaini in it.  :censored:

In a class full of kids near the Emirates stadium the teacher is telling the children that she supports Arsenal. She asks the children to tell her who they all support and one by one they all put their hands up and profess their love for Arsenal. Then finally a young girl called Mary puts her hand up and says, "Tottenham Hotspur Miss"

The teacher is aghast, and asks little Mary why. She explains that her Mum and Dad have always supported Spurs and so it's in her blood. The teacher laughs and says you don't have to follow in your parents footsteps. "What would you you be if your mother was a prostutute and your father was a drug addict?"

"An Arsenal fan Miss" Mary replied.

Just wanted to share...in between hurling the occasional racial epithet(s) at my gb (C)aliente(G)uerra(R)ider Jose, I just started  reading "Soccer in Sun and Shadow".  So good...was wondering  if any of you have read it?

"I wanted to be a soccer player.  And I played quite well.  In fact,  I was terrific, but only at night when I was asleep."

Zlatan - on scoring the 25,000th goal:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic on scoring the 25,000th PL goal: "I thought it was only me who had scored 25,000."

I read it this summer.  It's really good.

Well, thank you Swansea!  Jose puts out a lineup that any other team would beat but Swansea sits back and lets United do what they wanted.  Pogba with a great goal and had a good game all around.  Zlatan finally scores again, gets a yellow and will miss Arsenal.  Fellaini was awful as usual.  Couldn't even hit the target on a free shot from 8 yards out.  Rooney with 2 assists but was crap the rest. Carrick was good as always.  Makeshift back line held, but only until the 2nd half when SCFC actually started to press them.

A win is good.  But the down side is we will have to watch Arsenal run wild over Fellaini, Rooney despite Herrera being back and Zlatan is out.

Please Jose for all things good in the world...

                  Rashford
Martial    Pogba Mata    Lingard/Mkhy
                 Carrick
Darmien  Blind  Smalling   Fosu-Mensa
                  De Gea

Yeah, I don't get why you ever play fellani when you have Carrick. Although I think the rt.1 plan B role that LVG used him for last year was poor strategy, it at least had some bad logic behind it.

But if you're just looking for a responsible ball mover in the middle of the park, Carrick is a far superior option. And if he's too old to play every game, schneiderlein is a much better player as well.

At this point, I just assume that fellani had a great photographer on the payroll that specializes in  embarrassing pics of managers

No reason the fro should be in the lineup.  Carrick, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Schweinsteiger are all better options.  Even Blind would be better there if he wasnt needed as a defender.

@shader

Get in here and stick it to these schmucks for making fun of you.

Liverpool are top, just like you said

United sucks, just like you said

The Spurs are a bunch of beanie wearing, bagel eating, don't know what a home game is clowns, JUST LIKE YOU SAID

Good points Gator.  Yes, the ridicule was tough...but I stuck to my guns.  I don't consider myself a soccer newbie anymore, more like a younger fan who still has a lot to learn, but knows a lot.

But what better time for a set of rankings than after Liverpool have climbed to the TOP OF THE TABLE

1. Liverpool - The future is scary bright for this team.  A traditional power that fell on hard times is a juggernaut waiting to happen.  I told a few friends ten years ago that Nick Saban would make Bama the best program in college football.  When you combine an amazing coach with a traditional powerhouse, recruiting would skyrocket and everyone would want to play there.  Now it's not even close, it's the best program in college football.  The world of European football has a lot of analogies to college football, with recruiting being one of them.  Liverpool, despite being the 6th best EPL squad in the past decade, is still financially rich.  Now when you combine Jurgen Klopp with Success, with Champions League....it's a recipe for an explosion to the heights of ManU territory.  What new soccer fan isn't going to get on board with the electricity of this squad?  Even if a guy like Coutinho decides to head to Barcelona in a few years, what European player won't want to come to LIV?  This team is going to make noise everywhere next season and I expect a massive name or two to join next summer.  Oh, and what if CP decides to hone his talents in Liverpool under Klopp again?  Why wouldn't he?  Klopp trains players to become better than they otherwise would be.  Meaning if you go play for him, you'll either leave because you hate the work, or you'll become a stud.

How else do you explain Adam Lallana playing better than anyone on ManU?  Jordan Henderson turning into one of the best DM's in the EPL?  Coutinho leaving behind his 8 long hopeful shots a game and actually getting into the box?  Klopp makes guys better, end of story.

As for this season, the crazy thing is that LIV has already played everybody aside from City.  Their next 7 EPL games are Southampton, Sunderland, Bournemouth, West Ham, Middles, Everton, Stoke.  Would it surprise me if they won all 7?  No.  But even 5 wins out of 7 should not only be a goal, but it should be expected.  That keeps Liverpool on top of the league in time for the City matchup.

2. Chelsea - They aren't far behind LIV.  No European football leaves them fresh.  Hazard looks unstoppable, as does Costa.  They tore apart ManU and Everton.  These two teams are going to be fighting for it all year.

3. City - Pep really messed up coming to City.  I never understood it, unless he just wanted a paycheck.  He'll never come close to duplicating the success he had at Barcelona or Bayern at City.  There are too many teams that will do anything to win and he doesn't have a major financial advantage over his rivals.  So City will continue to be one of the top teams.  We are splitting hairs when trying to separate the top 4, but I really think that the extra CL games just make City/Arsenal a little bit more tired, they have a few more injuries, and they aren't quite as dynamic in their EPL games.

4. Arsenal - Arsenal is Arsenal.  In no way do I think they are good enough to finish first, in no way are they good enough to contend in the CL, but they are likely to get a CL spot.

5. ManU - This team will figure it out, will mount a run for 4th and will be the media darlings heading into the next EPL season when they splash the cash again.  The problem with United is that they've been blowing it in games they need to win.  Now, just when it looks like they've turned the corner a little bit, they are faced with 2 really tough games in their next 4, Arsenal and Tott.  The other two aren't push-overs either, Everton and West Ham.  This is a team that is going to need to win 4-5 in a row to get back in it, but I don't see them being able to make that happen.  The Arsenal game will be huge for this team.  If they can beat Arsenal, that will send a message to the other teams that United are coming back.  But even a solid draw will see them losing MORE points.....which they just can't afford at this stage.

6. Tottenham - Kane is back, but this team just lacks any ability to score in open play.  I'm sure eventually Tottenham will get going again, and their defense is good enough to where they could be really tough if they do.  But I think Tottenham is going to have a difficult time this season.  Is their coach good?  Yes.  Is he going to stay?  Hmm....I'm not so sure.  What if a big job opens up?  In the EPL he's fighting 5 teams that will have more resources and that will spend.  Is Tottenham going to attract any big European names? That's doubtful, especially since they are in jeopardy of crashing out of the CL and are going to find it incredibly difficult to get back next season.  Being seen as the 6th best team/job in the EPL isn't a place that MP is likely going to want to be.  He's climbed the ladder, now it's time for him to take that final step and coach at a top 5 job.  If he does stay loyal, he will fight for the CL every year at Tottenham, but can they ever really become Top 4 mainstays?  I don't think so.

The rest?  Meh, they don't count.

Seems so angry after getting to the top.  Sup wit dat?  Maybe he knows it'll be short lived?
@Southampton is a tough game.  Brazil has a game 3 days before the EPL game and Firm/Cout are schedule to arrive back in Liverpool late Thursday night.  So yeah, a draw is possible, which could potentially put Chelsea back up top.

But following that are a slew of games LIV should win.
