FiftyFive. One has learned that a completed deal to make the USL the sole second-division league is 99% complete. The deal wouldn’t involve the NASL becoming a third-division, leaving the league dead in the water. The USSF’s extended deadline would allow any transferring clubs extra time to get their ducks in a row to avoid litigation with non-moving teams. - See more at: http://fiftyfive.one/2016/12/sources-nasl-last-legs-usl-deal-99-complete/#sthash.V9ebhlQb.dpuf
Nashville gets a USL team in 2018.  So this would be pretty good for my city.

Many Serie A players are earning less than their Major League Soccer counterparts, a study has revealed.

An in-depth study by the Norwegian Axo Finans group has found that there are more players in MLS earning over €100,000 per week than in Serie A.

Approximately five percent of MLS players fit into that category, whereas in Italy the figure is just three percent. By comparison, 43 percent of Premier League players and 15 percent of the stars in Spain and China are earning €100,000 or more per week.

I am a little surprised with the 43% of EPL players - I am not sure Spurs have any players making 100K/week - Kane's latest deal is rumored at 80K/week, plus incentives.

It's in Euros probably.

It kills me that Harry Kane just signed a deal to make 50% of what Theo Walcott makes.

Apparently both Ozil and Sanchez want Pogba money from Arsenal.  Sanchez has some Chinese team dangling some absurd 350,00 to 400,000 / week offer.

What is Arsenal's history on contracts?  Will they pay the big money like the Manchester clubs?  Equal/less than Chelsea?

That's a tough spot for them to be in.  When I watch Arsenal, Ozil/Sanchez are the heartbeat of their team.  It seems as if both players know it.  My meaningless prediction is that Ozil will leave and Sanchez will stay.  Sanchez seems to have a passion for the game, I can't see him going to China even with that money offer.

Arsene hates overpaying and hates messing up the "salary structure."  Theo is pretty much the only guy I can think of who's gotten overpaid and that's because they already had Ozil in making 150K/week so it wasn't blowing the lid off the structure (Theo also has an amazing ability to score a run of goals right as his contract is due to be renegotiated).

I get that LIV/Tott and even Ars love their "salary structure".  In Liverpool's case I THINK they overpaid in the past and are now trying to implement a salary structure.

But with all of the new TV money, the stars aren't going to like the salary structure.  It will be interesting to see which team's bend or break theirs.

Banter!

I continue to be bemused by the strum and drang.  To make noise in the tournament, you have to beat a good team eventually.  I'm not going to feel any better if Arsenal manage to squeak by Leverkeusen or Benfica before losing to Bayern or Real.
Strum & Drang!  You gave me levity for such a brief moment...oh,  arriba Arsenal & all that, I guess. Thanks.

it is worth remembering that while Serie A salaries are lower than the other big leagues, they look worse than they really are in these type of studies because Italy is one of the few countries that releases salary information after taxes have been taken out.

I'd seen the scorpion kick before, and knew he was considered a crazy man, but I'd never seen extended highlights of him before.  So  much awesome in this video:  the scorpion kick, dribbling back into the box to handle it, the nut-huggers at 5:35, and the very last highlight as well.

This is a terribly flawed view, imo. Real Madrid last year got 2 cake games in Roma (sorry @Kafka ) and Wolfsburg before getting a tough game against City in the Semis. It's nice to get on a roll like. And the later in the season you play the great teams the more you know where The Focus is for both yourself and your opponent. The year that terrible Chelsea team won they got Napoli then Benifca. Then they parked the bus against Barca to get a result and BAM! They're stupid champions and John Terry puts his jersey on. It would be awesome if Arsenal finally got a break and drew Leverkusen then the winner of Benifca-Monaco. What's not to like about that?

I just don't think it would make it a more successful season if Arsenal loses to Bayern in the semis rather than in the first knockout round.  Chelsea is remembered precisely because they won the ties against the good teams later.  If they hadn't, nobody would have considered RDM's run with them anything like a success, even with a CL semifinal appearance.  It seems to me that Chelsea could have parked that bus in any knockout round.

...I dare you to come to Virginia now!

...If you would've done your research, over the course of that RM-ASR tie,  you would have seen that.......that...that..ahhhh, who am I trying to kid, here?... :kicksrock:

In my scenario they actually win.
