I love Zlatan. He's right though don't like it no need to play. The mentality at Milan since he's been back has been a complete 180. No longer have the lads after conceding a goal or 2 have heads hung down or anything. Guys are playing hard with hopes of getting a point or even getting the win.

Great that means some of these clubs can't overspend. THere's talk from transfer experts that this whole Virus issue might be a blessing in disguise in terms of money lost will mean the market goes back down to a more normal transfer rates rather than players being sold to clubs for 2xs -3xs their market value.
I don't know.  Speaking strictly from an EPL perspective I think it separates the haves from the have nots even further.

If every EPL team is shorted 20 Mil pounds, do the Arab Sheiks even blink?  But that's a huge number to Southampton and a fiscally responsible Everton.

And there's talk of the EPL doing away with balloon payments for relegated team. If you're Norwich, that makes any chance of returning that much harder.

The prices might be suppressed but certain squads had almost unlimited budgets. And the smaller clubs are going to be bargain hunting or looking for loaners.

It again comes down to finances, not pitch sizes or home field advantage per say.

Almost all EPL teams have sponsorship packages for signage in the stadium that is priced in part because it can be seen on tv.  The revenue will be lost if they can't play games in their own stadiums.
Was listening to a discussion on this earlier today.  Example used was Arsenal and Tottenham at Old Trafford.  One arguement is for the home team sponsors and signage to be used for the TV cameras.  Another arguement says the stadium's normal sponsors and signage should be used.

I agree with this.  Does 20 or even 100 million mean anything to Chelsea, Man City, or now Newcastle?  Of course not.  However, it likely forces some of the best players from the relegation fodder to be sold for less than market value just to keep those teams solvent.

Other than Pool, this year has seen the most parity in the EPL in a long time.  I think that's great.  I also think it'll be lost this summer as teams like Chelsea, ManCity, ManU, and Newcastle spend 150-200 million each and buy multiple players below market value and create a clear divide between the top 5-6 and everyone else again.

There's some talk that his tweet was directed at Milan as a club and that he's leaving but I really don't see it that way. I just think it's Zlatan being Zlatan honestly

Another failure for Roman Roy.

Iirc, rangers had finally gotten back up to challenge...but don't know how close 2nd place was to Celtic when things stopped. Feels like it was closer than the last several lopsided runaways.

Rangers were 13 points back with a game in hand. Not sure how many weeks were left.

Celtic was 26-2-2. Tough to make up ground on that.

ETA Rangers were 21-4-4 and 25 back in goal diff.

To give you an idea of the dropoff after that, 3rd place Motherwell had 12 losses

May 1985 - Philadelphia Mayor Wison Goode dropped a bomb from a helicopter and burned a city block. Reagan had just started second term. The USFL was in its final season.  And Aberdeen won the Scottish Premier Division.  That was the last time any team not named Celtic or Rangers did so.

At least rangers are back somewhat. The last few years have been just embarrassing for the SPL.

Manager was Alex Ferguson

ETA Celtic were 2nd, Rangers 4th

I don't know how I never heard of this but this story seems ready-made for a Netflix 6-parter. You have a mayor dropping an improvised C4 bomb in order to take out a "group that lived in a communal setting in West Philadelphia, abiding by philosophies of anarcho-primitivism.[1] The group combined revolutionary ideology, similar to that of the Black Panthers, with work for animal rights."

I'm in.

Had no idea either....I just figured it was typical Philly stuff.

Gotta say, so glad Bundesliga played this weekend. Recorded four matches and am working on magic football leagues while taking in soccer action (watching Koln/Mainz now).

All I need is the Ahhhh to get started

These are the Monday's I remember   :towelwave:

Agreed.  Only ended up watching Bayern vs Union Berlin, but this was the highlight of the weekend.  Seeing Dortmund's famous stand empty. I hope it can be like this again soon instead.
I saw both matches today and BVB yesterday. Warms my heart for the future of US Soccer to see three USMNT players on the field.

And I can’t wait to build a Green Wall in Austin.

And it was only three because the best of the bunch got hurt in warm ups.  It should have been 4 you saw.

And that does not even count Brooks and Morales who also played this weekend in other Bundesliga games.

Troy Deeney not going to report to training.

I wonder how much more of this we'll see. He's not the biggest star in the world but he is Watford's captain.
from that..

Last Wednesday, Deeney was in a meeting with the Premier League, other team captains and medical experts.

He said: "My problem was in the meeting, I asked very simple questions.

"For black, Asian and mixed ethnicities, they're four times more likely to get the illness, they're twice as likely to have long lasting illnesses - is there anything extra, additional screening, heart stuff to see if people have got problems with that? No. OK, well I feel that should be addressed.

"I can't get a haircut until mid-July but I can go and get in a box with 19 people and go and jump for a header and nobody could answer the questions, not because they didn't want to, just because they don't know the information.

"So I said if you don't know the information, why would I put myself at risk?"
always liked deeney on the field... like him off the field as well, now.

FOTMOB app sent me a news alert today that after testing all the EPL teams and staff, 6 returned positive results.

I don't see the season starting again anytime soon.   :kicksrock:
Bundesliga had more positive tests (11 - I think), and still got started.

So much money involved - these owners will overlook a few positive tests.

I am curious to see how the players and managers react to owners allowing TV cameras in the dressing rooms at halftime and after the match.  I doubt they were consulted before the owners gave that to the broadcasters...

I think this past weekend would have been the final weekend for the EPL without the delays.

June 8-10 is the hearing for City on their CL ban

In the US that would end really quickly with some wardrobe malfuntions.  Over there doubtful anyone notices.

6 positives for all 20 teams and staff is pretty great.

Germany had ~2x that amount for their top two leagues, and both kicked off this past weekend.

In regard to Deeney, I respect his decision, as I would not force anyone to work where uncomfortable.  HOWEVER, if you think the social and economic divide in the US is bad, it is way way worse in the UK and his actions could very well be a career ender.  I know that sounds harsh, but the vast majority of fans feel that all of these players are entitled #####es and the wages they are getting paid are astronomical compared to the rank and file.  It's a very tough choice and I'm glad I'm not in that position.  He also posted some stuff about how he is unable to get a hair cut until mid-July, yet he is expected to play in a box with 19 other people in a month?  I'm not sure that is the best tact to take.

In all honesty though, as an outsider looking in, EPL players are going to have access to the best facilities, best testing, best doctors and all sorts of safeguards will be in place, so I think he is very safe in a return, but not my decision to make.  A few months ago, there was a team in Honduras where the entire team didn't want to play due to COVID, yet the government was pretty much forcing them as they own/run about 2/3's of the teams in the league.  Of course little to no press was made of it world wide.

It's a super hard choice, and I know some MLB players have stated similar concerns, but they are also coming off bad because they are stating they don't want to risk their health for lesser pay.  When push comes to shove, it's always all about the money.  If Deeney is that concerned for his son, honestly, he could quarantine himself from his family for the next 2 months so as not to risk it.  Think of it as a business trip.  Many, many, many others have put themselves in the face of much worse danger.

I watched it live on TV, I was scared AF going to the bus stop the next day for some reason...

In England, a player getting a haircut is a national scandal.

In the United States, armed protestors storming a statehouse is a Tuesday.
Not sure the haircut would be that big a deal if it wasn't his third strike and/or he wasn't dumb enough to brag about it on social media.

Still odd that it generated a mention, yet the rape arrest/allegation against Hudson Odoi generated nothing.

(This is not FBGs specific - I think in England, the same is true - this is still a front page story on BBC Sports, with nothing about Hudson Odoi)

Treble winner with United in 99.  40% w/d/l record with Reading, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord

1.5 year contract in Cinci
The FC Cincy twitter account puts up the big announcement and then includes a picture of a guy who was not Stam.

Probably not the best time to be looking bad at your job when MLS is likely to have massive layoffs.
