Boro started the day at the top of the Championship, now 4th after losing to Watford while AFC Bournemouth and Norwich City both won.

I've been following that battle...I think at one point a few months ago 1st and 7th were 5 points apart. It's currently 7, so still crazy tight.

I don't think AFC Bournemouth ever been in the top flight in English football........or is my memory going?

They have a 12k seating capacity and average just a little over 10k this season. I wonder if they will expand if promoted or wait to see if they can stay up more than one year if they get promoted.

 
While enjoying the Championship very much, help me understand how Leeds got in such deep poop. From their poorly written Wiki page, I gather that the first financial troubles hit when they were in the PL some years back and took out some big loans in anticipation of Champions League money incoming, which they missed out on. What is so hard about steadying themselves, managing the finances conservatively and slowly working their way back up? They've got a pretty big stadium and a loyal fan base, it seems. If somebody wants to answer and add a Blackpool note or two along with it, I'll be appreciative.

 
Speaking of Leeds... they just came back from 2 goals down to tie it up at 3 with about 20 minutes remaining...

The more interesting point though is this:

"We need to speak to all the stakeholders, including the sponsors. People are making promises to enlarge the World Cup, but in 2022 they are making the World Cup shorter in terms of time frame. We cannot end up with a situation where mistakes are made again.''

I'm 99% sure how this will play out (Blatter winning), but expanding to 40 necessarily forces them to extend the WC a week, correct?

It was a classic snowball effect. I think there is even a saying called "Doing a Leeds" or something like that.

Invest in players with significant money you don't have in the hopes of achieving a goal to balance the books

Fail to make goal

Forced to sell players to try and balance books

Get relegated because you sold all the good players

Still not able to get the books to balance

Enter administration

Take a 10 point penalty for entering administration and get relegated again

Break more financial rules trying to climb out of the depths and be threatened with being expunged from the entire system

Take another penalty, 15 points this time and hit bottom

Everything has been a slow climb back from the bottom. When you #### up as bad as Leeds did, it can take years and years to repair. The real question will be if they learned their lesson or will they say succumb to the same issues again if they get promoted.

Maybe it was debunked, but I saw rumor Red Bull was interested in buying them.

Edit: I like to think all of this was God's punishment for switching from the beautiful "Rose and Ball" logo to the current monstrosity.

Last I saw was Red Bull denied the interest but who knows what is going on really.

This ref seems to be in the middle of a lot of bad. He looks lost at times when the camera is on him.

Hes the one that red carded ADM for the shirt pull but not Hart for the headbutt. Kompany also grabbed at him today with nothing (although it may not have been worth a card, its still inconsistent of this ref).

:lmao: So, Cellino is still banned from operating the club, though he's still trying to do so under the old "blind trust" scam. His banishment is being overseen by Football League Chief Executive Shaun Harvey, who helped run the same scam when he was at Leeds some years ago.

This is really sad for Leeds supporters but pretty wonderful to watch nonetheless.

I wasn't born into this thing and really can't muster up the gumption to "hate" any other club. Honestly, I would like to have Leeds in the Prem as I always enjoyed having them around. The Ken Bates connection with Chelsea provided some good entertainment, including the dispute with Abramovich and his various quasi-shady wheelings and dealings. After making a nice profit from the sale of Chelsea to Abramovich and then buying Leeds, Bates immediately got into a dispute with them over some players and he called Chelsea's directors "Siberian shysters." In response to accusations his slur was anti-semitic, Kenny issued the famous line, "I haven't laughed so much since Ma caught her #### in the mangle."
