Don't linesmen wait until an offsides player touches the ball before making the call? When I saw it in real time my first thought was how smart Lukaku and Mirallas were. But I'm probably the last guy who should be debating rules interpretations.
I think you're right. I'm almost 30 years removed from taking the ref classes to ref JV HS soccer.

watch it again. Lukaku makes a run offsides- when the pass is made and the ball goes over Lukaku's head, he stops running- pretty clearly, physically takes himself out of the play for split second. the ball runs to Miralles who wasn't offsides- when Lukaku sees that it's going to Miralles, he picks up his own run again. I could see making a claim that if Miralles passed back to Lukaku... maybe- that would definitely be a debate. as it is- pretty clear non-offsides to me.
Great call by the lino not to raise the flag.

DFB Pokal Semis:

Today - Borussia Dortmund @ Bayern München

Tomorrow - Wolfsburg @ Arminia Bielefeld

The Final is May 30th in Berlin
Is this the game where Rumenigge wants to present Kloppo with some flowers or some other mocking gesture of gratitude? Almost certainly Klopp's last game managing Dortmund against Bayern.

Good view. Miralles is a little farther forward then I thought but the ball does go right past Lukaku who does turn and take steps toward the ball. I can see why it would and why it wouldnt be called.

Like I said, at that point the game was done anyway and more important is the lesson for United's defense is to play to the whistle!

You don't have to touch the ball to be ruled offside. Back in the day, the player didn't have to be anywhere near the ball for the flag to go up. Sometimes players will signal being passively offiside by stopping and putting their hands in the air to show they are taking themselves out of the play. In this case, Lukaku kind of stopped, but doesn't really take him self out of the play, actually ends up trailing into the area. The defenders stepped up and the pass was played to Lukaku in an offside position, so I think it should be ruled offside.

The problem for me is Lukaku continued his run into the area and is actually calling for the ball directly in front of goal. What if Mirallas had passed to him? He's an offside player and is affecting the play of several defenders on that goal, including de Gea.

Here's a tweet with all the matchups in that Champions Cup (or whatever it's called) this summer:

https://twitter.com/ESPNFC/status/593062912597630976/photo/1

Interestingly all the NYC matches are at Red Bull Arena and 2 of them including versus Chelsea are against the Red Bulls.

Man U v Barca is in Santa Clara and Barca v Chelsea is at Fed Ex Field.
I wish the MLS teams would stay away from this money grab. They could still act as hosts and collect some revenue but playing in these games using MLS reserve players and losing by a ton seems a poor decision for pr reasons.

So whether I go to the DC game or just stay at home and go to whatever is here, it is going to involve Chelsea :sadbanana:

given the way these things have sold in not just recent years- seems like they could have tripled the attendance for NYC games at Giants stadium instead of having them all at RBNY.

exactly- for me, that's when it becomes open to serious questioning/debate in my mind.

as it is- good no-call.

that said- I'm REALLY happy not having to go to Yankee stadium to see any of these.

that said too- it's going to be a tougher, more expensive ticket.

that said C- and we have to see RBs instead of two Euro teams (PSG v Fiorentina aside).

Would love to go see Barca at the Rose Bowl but to make my way there on a Tuesday to see them drub the Galaxy like United did last summer just makes it a tough decision.

Hopefully I can figure a way to get to SF to see United and Barca on Sat July 12!! That would be worth doing.

I was thinking that too.

I know many teams complained last year when the temporary turf was used in different stadiums over the field turf so maybe they decided to limit that this year?

My guess is the Red Bulls wanted to keep all the revenue and the Meadowlands was insisting on a ridiculous rent price. If you notice the Galaxy/Barca match in the Rose Bowl as opposed to the Stubhub Center.

well looks like I'll be getting tickets to the Man U vs. Barca game in Santa Clara, not sure I can pull off the Tuesday match.

if you plan it just right you can swing Jet Blue from Long beach into San Fran for usually $120 RT

Yeah that makes sense. They also don't have the huge expense of bringing in grass which they don't have to worry about at the Rose Bowl

This was the game where the Montreal keeper was dodging objects thrown at him all game

Miami (Tuesday, April 28, 2015) - The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today that its Disciplinary Committee has levied fines and issued a provisional stadium ban on Costa Rican club Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, for incidents of discrimination and breaches of safety protocol which occurred during the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League semifinal stage match played on April 7, 2015 at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela

of course, they could have had other games that didn't involve RBs at Meadowlands. sucked going to Yankee stadium, but fun to see Chelsea v PSG and RM vs Milan last year... or year before... for cheap.

wish they'd do the same with the lasers.

Can do San Jose Airport (15 mins to the stadium) for $170 on Southwest too. I guess it depends on game time too. If we stay the night maybe I can convince the wife to go...

My guess is that from now on the Meadowlands is out as an MLS spot and it'll either be Red Bulls Arena or Yankee Stadium. I don't know what the Red Bull's attendance is this year, but I won't be shocked if they package these 2 games with season tickets sometime soon.

Edit: Should have gone to the website first:

2015 Red Bulls Season Ticket Holders will enjoy the Red Bulls vs. Porto game as part of their Season Ticket Package. As an added bonus, Red Bulls Season Ticket Holders will also receive tickets to the PSG-Fiorentina matchup, as well as an exclusive 24-hour pre-sale window to purchase tickets for the Red Bulls vs. Chelsea FC match. More details on the pre-sale, as well as other offers for partial season ticket holders, training partners, and group buyers will be announced at a later date.

ah... those really are going to be tough/expensive tickets for non-season holders.

but should be amazing to see those teams at RB, the best stadium I've ever watched soccer in.

The Impact sold 2,000 newly-issued tickets on Monday ahead of Wednesday’s CCL final second leg against Club América at the Olympic Stadium. The 61,004-strong sellout crowd will establish a new record attendance for professional soccer in Canada. The previous record was also set at the Big O, when 60,860 fans saw David Beckham’s LA Galaxy tie the Impact 1-1 on May 12, 2012.

Aw man, they're going to suck me into paying for this exhibition bull####.
Soldier Field is hosting a Gold Cup double header on July 9 (T&T v Guatemala, then Mexico v Cuba) and a ManUnited v PSG exhibition on July 29. I think I'd prefer the Gold Cup games if I had to choose. Its always more enjoyable imo to see games that matter, not to piss on anyone's parade here. The exhibition games are definitely worthwhile and its fun to see the superstars in action. The downside is the touristy nature of the crowd and the players running at half speed.

yeah, T&T vs Guat sounds like a blast.

Wigan was relegated to League 1 from Championship today. They lifted the FA Cup less than two years ago. :loco:
I forget... did they have any kind of sanctions against them? Or did they just have to sell all their players and couldn't rebound? that's a pretty catastrophic fail.

From ESPN

With Bayern Munich losing in the German Cup semis, the only clubs that can win European Trebles (Domestic League, Domestic Cup, European Cup) this season are Barcelona & Juventus. That has only been done seven times before.
