and both Drogba and Terry score. what year is this?

ETA Ramirez adds #3 in the 83', sorry Leicester. today was not to be.
Drogba and Terry - combined age 71, combined goals + assists 18

Cesc now with 17 assists after Ramires' screamer, most in the PL since Lamps had 18 ten years ago.

ugh, what a way to go out.

Bayern dominated early, but seemed to let up once up 1-0. The ref missed a handball that should have been a PK, but

with their play in the second half, Dortmund deserved the equalizer.

The penalties were a mess. Lahm and Alanso both slipping just blows my mind. Follow that with a save against Goetze and Neuer hitting the post, that had to be the worst set of pks I've ever seen.

Also, the Robben injury is a great concern. Hopefully he pulled himself out of caution.
It looks like Robben is out for the remainder of the season. Lewandowski broke his jaw and got a concussion late in the game. Terrible luck this season for Bayern, and bad news for neutral fans looking forward to the Champions Leage semis.
They are hurting. For those that missed it, here is the mess of PKs from Bayern. Also, this is the keeper punch that leveled Lewandowski. (around the 3:30 mark)
I love that Neuer is taking PKs.... a GK taking them is just all kinds of Awesome.
Anytime this comes up I like to recall the time I was playing GK and had the other GK take a penalty against me. I saved it then punted it down the field and it rolled all the way into their goal. Woo! Hoo!

I wonder if this will cause Orlando to not build and maybe work out a deal with the Citrus Bowl instead

The Republican-dominated Florida Legislature found a way to burst the bubble on Orlando City's fairy-tale start to its MLS adventure. The House of Representatives adjourned three days early in a dispute with the Senate over Medicaid expansion, leaving $30 million in funding for Orlando City's new city-owned stadium in limbo.

Last year, the Florida Legislature approved funding for sports facilities in the form of state sales-tax rebates, making the Orlando City downtown stadium and other Florida sports facilities (arenas, stadiums and raceways) eligible for the money paid out in yearly rebates.

Leading the fight to vacate last year's legislature has been the budget chairman and speaker-designate Richard Corcoran, who opposes using public money to give rebates to "rich people."

"I don't understand how you can claim to have a fiscal crisis on health care," he said, "but can find millions of dollars in subsidies for billionaire sports owners."

The new Orlando City stadium wasn't the only victim of the impasse in Tallahassee. All other kinds of legislation died on the vine, including a key water legislation package and prison reform bill.In the meantime, work has begun slowly on getting the site along Church Street ready for construction. The overall cost for the stadium that will initially seat 19,500 fans is $115 million. Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer has not commented since the legislature recessed but he did say last week that the money from the rebates was integral to the new stadium and there was no "Plan B."

Orlando station WFTV reported last week that the extra money would go toward expansion of the seating capacity to 25,000, construction of a roof over the north end of the stadium and extending over the east and west end stands, luxury suites, supporters pub and party terraces.

Orlando City is playing its first season at the Orlando Citrus Bowl, which was itself reconstructed to the tune of more than $200 million and reopened this year.

Orlando City sold out its opener against New York City FC with a crowd of 62,510 and has drawn more than 30,000 fans for each home game since then -- all losses -- to set an MLS record for the largest average attendance for a club's first four games.

Not big on the idea that governments should buy stadiums for teams in the first place. Certainly don't think building a smaller stadium less than a mile away from the current one, which was just renovated for $200mm of taxpayer money, is something I would support.

They've already broken ground on the stadium. It's happening, the only question is whether it gets built to 19k initially or 25k with the expansions.

I go round and round with my local friends on this issue all the time. It should come as no surprise to anyone that I strongly oppose subsidizing billionaires with tax money but they all argue that the "happiness factor" is in fact a good expenditure of public funds. What they choose to ignore is that the closed systems practiced by American sports makes this any kind of issue at all ("help us with a new stadium or we're packing up the vans").

No chance in hell this one ends 1-0. Gotta be at least two more goals coming.
The emergency Montreal keeper looks scared to me. He doesn't want to catch, he keeps punching. Club America should just keep peppering in crosses.

Montreal has to score on a counter I think if they want this title.

Honestly can't say I blame him. Imagine that pressure cooker- coming from Indy Eleven three days before a continental championship in front of 60,000 that your league has never won before. Yikes

Oof. 1-1. Great goal

Well that escalated quickly
Great run by Montreal. We have said it since day 1, they are so far out of their depth at this level, this was bound to happen. All credit to them for making it so far.
Plus it keeps my dream alive of the Union being the first team to win it

:lmao:

:(
The Union and Montreal might be fighting for faux relegation together this season :)

It was on FS2, Unimas and UDN.

Also, I never realized how hot Sydney Leroux is. Good lord, that's a fine footballer.
I was on this train way before you and Dom Dwyer. While everyone was going gaga over Alex Morgan, I was internally saying whatever the 40 year old white guy equivalent of "but, dat ###!" is.

Lots of smoke (but not confirmation) suggesting that Juve have agreed on a fee to send Pogba to PSG.

I'd kind of like to see a 4-4-2 with Luiz as the 6 behind Pogba, Matuidi, and Veratti with Ibra and Cavani playing as dual central strikers (I know that Cavani will be sold).

That would be an awesome midfield, but Veratti is going to be sold IMO.

Substitute Pastore for Cavani and it's still a fun lineup.

:goodposting:

that's a serious team. plus they have the best defender in the world.

I might be officially Twitter beefing with Ale Bedoya right now.
I think he is jealous of the American MLS players who got big deals and no one is offering him the same. So he complains a lot about the CBA. I think he wants to come home in the worst way but does not really understand how to work the system.

At his age I think he realizes (and is angry about) that he might miss out on a good payday in the US and was hoping the CBA would grow to a point where he could come home, make good money and not be a DP.

This is just speculation on my part but I bet it is pretty close.

His general complaint that MLS can not improve much in the next 5 years because of the CBA is valid imo but he does not really care about that, I think he is just pissed there is no money for him and is lashing out.

Provincial FBGs need to stop using UK and assuming that everyone knows they mean the University of Kentucky. Some of us think globally.

OTOH, I don't really have an alternative for them to use. My friend the UK grad and I always refer to them as the "Mildcats."

Any NYC FBGs want to cornhole @ Stout NYC for Chelsea/ West Brom on May 18th?
what time is the game? I am definitely probably maybe up for this.
3pm EDT
hmmm... tough time to sneak out.

keep me on speed-dial though. I might *cough* *cough* be feeling a cold or something coming on... slowly... like, a couple weeks from now necessitating needing to leave work early.

Big news out of la Liga today. The Spanish parliament passed a law requiring TV revenue sharing.

http://teamstre.am/1JcX8F0

This means that Real and Barça can't negotiate their own contracts, thus leveling the playing field somewhat.

No news on the transfer ban front...

Without going into all the details of the deal, this seems good for the overall competitiveness of La Liga, and possibly bad-ish for Real and Barca. I like it, as I'd like to see the 2nd tier (financially at least) get paid off for creating a lot of talent.

I think everyone would agree with your stance.

The only thing I don't like about this situation is that the deal was already approved, the team proceeded as intended assuming the funding was there and then it gets pulled at a later date. I don't think that is very fair to any business.

If it was voted down initially, as it should have been, that would have been much more fair imo. At least the team then proceeds from a fully knowledgeable position about its finances.
