I think Spurs are the fittest team I've seen, but I think they ran themselves out a bit that game. That was 75 minutes of ferocious pressing.Wow. Spurs looked like crap from the second Giroud came on.
Such a massive game.Dortmund Bayern switched to FX
When you say trial, will that rule be used every where or only in leagues willing to experiment?Looks like FIFA is trialing a change on the "triple punishment" for denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity in the box. Unless it's an egregious offense, (pushing or pulling, making no attempt on the ball, violent conduct, deliberate handball) it's now a yellow card for a two year trial.
ETA: From the article, they've also approved experiments for video review and for a fourth sub in extra time.
That's shocking number of good decisions to come from one FIFA/IFAB conference.
2 year global trial. The other two rules will be experiments in select volunteer leagues, but the triple jeopardy rule is being removed for two years globally. When you say trial, will that rule be used every where or only in leagues willing to experiment?
MLS has been chirping about wanting to try the video review so I bet they might volunteer for that experiment.2 year global trial. The other two rules will be experiments in select volunteer leagues, but the triple jeopardy rule is being removed for two years globally.
Was it shown live? The only station I get that I could find it on was at 7:30 last night. Media blackout all day.Dortmund Bayern switched to FX
After the draw it's a 5 point difference with 9 matches to play. That's more of a race that many expected.Such a massive game.
If Dortmund can pull off a win, they are only 2 points back of Bayern and we get to see a real title race in the Bundesliga in the home stretch.
This Bayern/Dortmund game is fun![]()

Brutal call. Pardew's postgame interview was pretty good.Wow. What a gift. A 94th minute penalty to win it for nothing.
Sometimes refs just seem to lose their minds. Like they were watching another game or daydreaming and then suddenly had to make a decision they never saw. It's crazy.Brutal call. Pardew's postgame interview was pretty good.
Not a bad way to start your season3 minutes into the Revs season, Diego Fagundez has scored a likely goal of the year candidate.

That was a tremendous strike. I liked McNamara's goal that kicked off the scoring in the NYCFC-Chicago match - sweet bend on that one:Not a bad way to start your season

I think you answered your questionJuan Mata has more red cards in the EPL then Diego Costa. And that was Mata's first. Think about that for a minute....
I hate the fact you can get booked for stopping a team from taking a quick free kick. They didnt ask for ten, you werent purposefully standing over the ball.... But even with that Juan should have known better. The 2nd yellow was clearly correct and a stupid play from Mata. If he doesn't get sent off, with as bad as United looked, I dont think they lose that game in the end. Although WBA deserved the 3 points, they were the better team.
LVG makes very little sense. Why do you sit Schneiderlin? He and Herrera had been forming a good partnership. Memphis is growing in form and you sit him too? Down a goal and you take off herrera for Scheniderlin then a defensive swap at RB? My word. Could have made a run at it after putting Schneiderlin in why not put Memphis in for Carrick?
You have a chance to stay 5th, close the gap on Arsenal, stay level with City with the Manchester Derby coming up and you fall flat. And now you have Europa at Liverpool (thurs), FA Cup with 5th place West Ham (Sun), Europa vs Liverpool (Thurs) then the Derby (Sun).....
The exact rule is slightly contradictory and leaves room for referee interpretation I guess. Here is the rule with the two key parts boldedI hate the fact you can get booked for stopping a team from taking a quick free kick. They didnt ask for ten
I hear they also got Mike Magee back.Welcome back to the Galaxy, Mike McGee![]()
Yes, I considered that, but a Sunday to Thursday is enough time to not have to sit people for that. Thursday to Sunday would be an issue thoughI think you answered your question![]()
How is that contradictory? The exact rule is slightly contradictory and leaves room for referee interpretation I guess. Here is the rule with the two key parts bolded

Free kicks are classified into two categories: Indirect and direct. "Direct" means that a goal can be scored directly against the defending team; "Indirect" means that a goal cannot be scored unless the ball has been touched by any player in addition to the kicker before entering the goal.
For all free kicks the defending team must get and remain at least 10 yards from the ball until it is kicked. The exceptions are (1) if the attacking team decides to "quick" kick before the defenders can position themselves; or (2) if there is an indirect free kick given to the attacking team in the penalty area with the ball placed less than 10 yards from the goal line, the defenders may stand on the goal line, between the goal posts.
An indirect free kick infraction by a defender within the goal area will cause the ball to be placed on the six-yard line of the goal area nearest the spot of infraction.
Note: A defensive player who delays the taking of a free kick should be cautioned (yellow carded)
Wow, thats pretty bad then. Mata didnt delay the kick, he blocked the quick kick before given time to move 10 years away. By this it shouldnt have been booked. Doesnt excuse his 2nd yellow, but yet again the ref showing poor judgement. The exact rule is slightly contradictory and leaves room for referee interpretation I guess. If you dont have to give 10 yards because of a quick kick, how can blocking the kick be an infraction? I agree that they always seem to show yellow for this, but I don't see how they can if this is the rule. If you are walking away and they kick it into you I've seen a ref book the player too. Seems that would be incorrect here as well. How is that contradictory?
The rule is 10 yards - unless there is a quick kick. Nothing allows a player, even on a quick kick, to block the kick intentionally. If you do that - the ref is always going to go for a card.
Easily. You're delaying the taking of a free kick. You're allowed to be within 10 yards of a quick kick. It's not a hurry up offense drawing another offside penalty in football or something. But you're not allowed to then prevent the free kick taker from taking the kick quickly. That's the most common sense reading of the rule.If you dont have to give 10 yards because of a quick kick, how can blocking the kick be an infraction? I agree that they always seem to show yellow for this, but I don't see how they can if this is the rule. If you are walking away and they kick it into you I've seen a ref book the player too. This is very hard on the ref.If you dont have to give 10 yards because of a quick kick, how can blocking the kick be an infraction? Yeah - Agree about the situation where you are walking away and the player gets hit - to me that should not be a card, but I have seen it given. But, you have to give 10 yards, and if you are not 10 yards, you need to not play the ball. And, most of the time this happens when a player runs in front of the ball to prevent the quick kick - so they are intentionally trying to slow the play.If you dont have to give 10 yards because of a quick kick, how can blocking the kick be an infraction? I agree that they always seem to show yellow for this, but I don't see how they can if this is the rule. If you are walking away and they kick it into you I've seen a ref book the player too. But why should one get a yellow if you are just running back into position and the free kick taker slams the ball into you?Easily. You're delaying the taking of a free kick. You're allowed to be within 10 yards of a quick kick. It's not a hurry up offense drawing another offside penalty in football or something. But you're not allowed to then prevent the free kick taker from taking the kick quickly. That's the most common sense reading of the rule.
I don't think anyone's arguing for that situation producing a yellow. I didn't see the play, but considering that LVG called it a "stupid play" I assume Mata actively tried to impede the kick being taken quickly. That's the situation where I've seen a yellow given. I can't recall ever seeing one where a player just didn't retreat fast enough or had it hit him inadvertently. . Far more often, I see players refuse to move until the referee is asked. That largely goes unpunished, but shouldn't under the rule. But why should one get a yellow if you are just running back into position and the free kick taker slams the ball into you?
I am not talking about the players who are obviously delaying the kick, those are clear yellows, but when the rule states you can be with in ten yards of the ball and it gets hit into you, it seems strange that it is also a yellow card offense.
