Go Ahead Eagles won promotion today, happily sending De Graafschap back down 5-2 on aggregate (they could still be rescued, depending on the result in the other playoff). Eagles were a perennial second division club when I glommed on to them during my time in Holland, won promotion two years ago only to be immediately relegated last year by losing a playoff to DeGraafschap. Reports from Holland are the home fans stormed the field today to attack Eagles players as they celebrated on the hated De Graafschap turf. They will be rockin the Eagles Nest in Deventer tonight.

I don't know what any of this means but it sounds like all of the things I like about footy.

Sevilla having the better of things at the moment - Barcelona not clicking in the final third.

ETA:  Fair call on the red card to Mascherano.  Sloppy defending put him in bad position and he took the guy down

Suarez will miss copa if that's his groin or hamstring, that looks more painful than messi's head which is knotting up

Good point by Ale Moreno on Banega's red card - how is he the guy having to be the last line of defense to stop Neymar given Sevilla's numerical advantage?

What a ball from Messi and what run from Alba - to make that run in the 97th minute after being down 10 men for a majority of the match is fantastic.  Tremendous fitness.

How do they decide which teams physio does the treatment?

Could one in theory request Eva? Asking for a friend of course.
Sometimes when I post it is in my Eva avatar face. Sometimes it's in my Mou avatar face. I'm giving you my Mou face right now. Bet I know when you posted you had the Eva face on. Life is all Mou's and Eva's, really.

Just read that Dybala has been left off the Argentinian squad, as well as "The Apache".  If true, this is insane....I can understand leaving out Tevez, but he is the kind of player that they need; he has the heart and determination that seems to be the one lacking ingredient in the Argentinian attack; he'll do anything necessary to achieve a victory; while chubby, crybaby-face Higuain will blame all others for his shortcomings in the clutch...but Tevez is older, & GordoGonzalo did have an extraordinary season in Serie A.  However, I cannot believe they left Dybala out, he is a true phenomenon, & preformed under extreme pressure at JuveMerda.  I've seen Dybala quite a bit, & the way he uses both feet  to create his own shot, or another's, is inspiring.   It smells like player politics to me, & the players are running the team, not the coach.  This seems to always be the Achilles heel of Argentina; the talent is insane, but so is the tactical direction.

I haven't watched enough Serie A to know, but Higuaín had a great season, no?  Maybe they should have left Gaitán or Lavezzi at home and brought Dybala, but I don't really get the hate for Higuaín.  I though Arsenal should have nabbed him two years ago when he got the boot from Real.

The "players" = Messi.  Argentina always has too much offensive talent to figure out how to fit them all in.  That's not to say that I really understand how Lamela or Lavezzi are getting call-ups.  Looks to me that they won't play Kun on the left this time.  He'll compete with Higuain for the ST spot and they'll use more true wingers seeing as how they're bringing Gaitan.

Single season goal record in Serie A.  So, yeah.  A pretty good year

I haven't seen enough of Dybala, but he seems to normally play as a support striker, right?  Where would he fit in a 4-3-3?

Fairly or not, I think Higuain carries that World Cup final around as a big part of his brand.

More turbulence coming to a club that can't handle it?

I'm all for it   :excited:

There was/is a large Untied faction that didn't and don't want Mou for that reason. They're used to, and rightfully so, stability at the top. Mou does not bring that and will be gone within his customary 3 years.

Yeah, but they'll get several trophies in that time span.

It's going to be hard for Wenger to sell the idea of no better strikers being available when Zlatan signs with United on a free.

There's a lot I can fault Arsene for, but I don't blame him for not wanting to blow up his salary structure on a guy who will ask for over 250,000 pounds/week.  Xhaka has already had his physical and is just waiting to be announced and the club are in talks with Bayern for Benatia.  Those would be two very good singings.  I'd settle for a like for like competition for Giroud at striker.  Someone like Bony.

With all the LVG revelations, its frankly hard to know how talented United really are.  Only three teams created fewer chances than United did this season, and a lot of it appears to be because of LVG's goofy rules against wingers taking on fullbacks and strikers having to take a touch in the box.  Now, maybe those stories are exaggerated as they were clearly leaked strategically by Man Utd.

My sense of Mourinho is that he insists upon defensive discipline, but he doesn't stifle attacking invention.

If he lasted through his 2nd season, he'd almost certainly be top 5 for longevity in the PL. Google tells me, after Arsene, Eddie Howe is currently second at 1319 days, Hughes is third longest at 1089, Pelligrini was fourth,  Poch and Koeman are roughly equal - both being hired in summer of 2014. After than come 3 winter 2015 hires, and roughly half the league managers are still under a year in the hotseat.

What about Giggs? Jose is sure to bring Rui Faria and a couple others. I would expect there's no room for Giggs with that group.
All the rumors say that Giggs is leaving.  He was apparently promised the job after LVG's three year contract ran out.  26 years with the club and he'll probably end up managing Swansea or something.

Club legend, but needs to go manage somewhere (Swansea would be fine) and be ready to take over when the Special One blows up

The second round of the Bundesliga Promotion battle is underway.

Eintracht Frankfurt at FC Nürnberg.  The first leg was a 1-1 draw in Frankfurt, giving Nürnberg the away goal advantage.

Frankfurt are attempting to stay up after a four year stretch in the top league.  Frankfurt was in BL1 from the beginning from '64-'96 before their first relegation.  Since '96 they have been promoted back up four times with stretches of 3, 1, 6 and now 4 year runs.  The longest they've stayed relegated has been two seasons.

Nürnberg were original BL1 clubs as well.  They won the Bundesliga in '68 and were then relegated in '69!  They have been relegated eight times and promoted seven times.  Their time down has been in stretches of 9, 1,1,4,2,1,1 and now 2 seasons.  Their longest run in the top has been 9 years from '86 through '94.

90 minutes up and 4 added.  Frankfurt up 1-0 and staying up unless something happens.

LVG is a moron, he could have been an internet legend had he would have appointed Eva team Dr. first thing this morning to instantly troll Jose.

Frankfurt take it and stay up.

The Frankfurt keeper received a yellow for time wasting on a goal kick.  The next goal kick an outfield player line up to take it ... waited ... waited ... waited then ran out of the box to let the keeper take it.  That outfield player received his own yellow.  With all of that, plus the time for the ref to run up and show the card ... a clinic in time wasting.
