Chelsea supporter's defense in court after being charged with making Nazi salute at Spurs fans:

‘I didn’t know at the time what it meant, now I’ve researched it I do.

‘Everyone was doing it, so I thought I would do it. I’m not a racist, I was just an idiot.’

Sounds pretty much like every Trump supporter...

I'm with you- but lets do our best to keep as many threads unmucked... tia.

Schwienstieger had photos of him taken by the press in Chicago having a meeting with the Fire's head coach.

I can't wait to see how Chicago trades his rights for a bag chips and Schwieny goes on to be an important player for another MLS team.

Who is Barcelona's RFB problem that has the Guardian rumoring every modestly talented RFB in Europe going there to solve it? Including Cedric, for og's sake.

We knew Stevie G was on his way out, but it sounds like Lamps has announced his exit from NYCFC.  Glad he had that absurd run of peak Lampard goal scoring from midfield for us to remember him by.

so in the wake of the harvard scandal, my columbia lions ended up winning out and becoming co-ivy champions at 13-3-1 (losses to NCAA bound teams) with 5 straight shut-outs and 9-1 over the last 10 games.

should be a nice trip to the NCAAs... except- no. ACC gets 9 freaking teams, and the ivies only 1 (dartmouth, co-champion who beat CU head-to-head). not even an at-large bid.

####### furious.

So I guess I shouldn't like this post?

Interesting stuff happening in Canada with what may be the biggest soccer games they have ever had, coming up.

No Canadian MLS team has ever made the conference finals and this year 2 did, Montreal and Toronto, which is a natural rivalry already, much less playing for a chance to get into MLS Cup.

Toronto has already sold out the second leg.  In the first leg, Montreal moved the game out of 20k capacity Saputo and into 60k capacity Olympic Stadium.  They broke through 50k sold yesterday.

Today RDS, which is the big sports broadcaster in Montreal, stated that they have bumped the Canadians off of RDS1 so that they could show the soccer game instead (and for people who know how sacred hockey is up there, this is a pretty big deal).

Obviously having Canadian teams in it kills US ratings but in the end this might turn out to be a positive in the long term for MLS because the Canadian national TV rights are expiring after this season.

not that anybody else should care about this particular snub... but is anybody following the NCAAs? I've watched a handful of random games this season, and the overall quality level is pretty good- definitely a lot of MLS level talent in the college ranks (for now- the system doesn't make sense for developing pro athletes, but...)

Hey, now!  I cared!... just wasn't sure if i should be happy for your team, or mad at the current circumstances.  Is the "MLS level talent" reference an endorsement, or indictment?

I keed, I keed...

:Klinsman: NCAA is killing American soccer.  They need a 10 month season and more kids need to skip college and go play in the 3rd tier in Europe.  All the young talent cares about is getting a scholarship, not getting better at soccer.  :/Klinsman:

This is an interesting chart that breaks down what each EPL team is drawing on US tv this year with a comparison to last year.

Interesting indeed.  Looks down overall unless I am reading it wrong?

Does it take into account DVRd games or times they are being shown and on what channel?

I understand some of the decline in viewers for United may be Jose, or their lack of winning over the last 3 years 9or viewship down in general)... but it also feels like United has had a lot of 4:45 am pacific time games on a Sunday morning shown on MSNBC not NBCSports or NBC.  Heck they play Arsenal this Saturday at 445am pacific.

Epl games are down over all so far this year.  This is true both in US and England.

DVR numbers are counted if watched within 24 hours of being recorded.  If watched after, they go into a different category that is rarely published by the media.

These numbers do not account for streaming.  And with cord cutting growing every month, this is going to continue to be an issue until Nielsen starts to get a handle on that group.

So while the official announcement of Gerrard leaving LA is of no surprise, I am a bit surprised it was not accompanied by a retirement statement.

It looks like Gerrard is still considering some offers, one of which is a strong rumor to go to Celtic.

Dear ManU fans, please give me your best IX with out the following players: Bailly, Smalling, Fellaini, Shaw, Valencia, Rooney, and Zlatan.

                          DeGea

     Darmian      Jones     Blind      Young

  Lingard               Mata            Martial

                         Rashford

I'm an Arsenal fan, but that doesn't look too bad to me.

Lets hope Rooney and Fellaini are out.  Neither should be in any best XI.  And rumors are Valencia may be available.  Defense is going to be a mess.  Rojo is better at CB then LB, Jones is an injury waiting to happen.  Could also see Fosu-Mensa or Young in the back too

I am guessing something like this:

                    Rashford
Martial             Mata           Mkhy (or Lingard)
                 Pogba  Carrick (or Herrera)
Blind         Rojo       Jones          Darmien
                   De Gea

BUT I could see this too:

                    Rashford
Martial             Mata           Mkhy (or Lingard)
                 Pogba  Herrera
 Young        Blind     Carrick        Darmien
                  De Gea

Maybe that's why Jaysus said " best IX"?

What's the deal with Damian?  Has he been that bad?  He was an exceptional LB/RB @ Torino & Gli Azzurri,  but has seemed to have been a major disappointment at ManU...
everybody looks better when they are playing in that B league, hell look at Super Mario now.

He is solid defensively but doesnt offer much going forward and his service is poor.  Valencia has shown to be decent defensively but offers more going forward.

:lmao:  its funny because its true, and that makes it so funny
