Man United will finish with their fewest wins ever in the PL

So thats what £100M players get you these days?  Thanks Pogba.
Sadly the talent is there to challenge for a title but Jose needs to get out of his own way and let them play for it.

1) Win Europa
2) Keep De Gea
3) Sell Fellaini, Rooney, Jones, Smalling, Young.
4) Bring in a cb to pair with Bailley. Groom Tuanzabe as your center back depth.  Rojo could return at some point as well.
5) Bring in a CM to take over for Carrick and free up Pogba and Herrera to run the game.
6) Attack with Martial Rashford Mkhi Mata.
7) Bring in a true left back to push Shaw.

Greizeman is a pipe dream.  A nice dream and if they are in CL who knows, but dont get your hopes up
James is not worth the reported 70m euros they are talking.
Would take both of course.  Talented options are good.

For now:

GK - De Gea,
Backups -Romero, Perriera

Def Valencia, Bailey, CB, Shaw
Backups Darmian Tuanzabe, Rojo

Mid - Pogba, Herrera, Mata, Mkhi, Martial
Backups - Carrick, Lingard

Forward - Rashford
Backups - ??

I know I am missing a few, especially some youth.  Will need to buy some players to fill out and bring in competition for several spots and create top depth.

the zlat.

So Sporting KC won last night 3-0.  Gerso w/ a hattrick (first SKC hattrick since 2010).  Weird game in some respects, SKC had no shots in the first half attacking the goal right in front of me, but ended the game with 11 shots, 6 on target.  Seattle seems to be a bit of a mess and is really struggling.  KC dominated possession 61/39.

My voice is gone and I have a wicked hangover.  So it was a great time.

The stadium in KC is beautiful.  The (real grass) pitch was flawless and the fans were loud.  Even though it was a midweek game the stands were quite full.

Player thoughts...

Tim Melia played great in goal for SKC, I don't know anything about him really but given our US Nat lack of keeper depth he may earn a look at some point.  (He is 31, so don't get hopes up too high.)  Melia made some really nice saves and was the reason for the clean sheet.

Besler and Opara looked great manning the D.  Opara had a wicked header off a corner that Frei barely saved.

Zusi played RB again.  He plays more like a wing back and often times is on the front line out way wide in attack.  He did make an excellent defensive play in the box at one point and I never noticed a big mistake.  Got an assist on the third goal.

Bennie manned the middle and looked fine.  Didn't really stand out in any big way.

Dwyer didn't do much.  I think Seattle keyed on him which allowed Gerso to get off 6 shots and bag the hattrick.

Gerso didn't do much in the first half that I noticed.  Then he started taking nice shots in the second half and bagged his three.  I don't think he's been getting much run prior to this game, but he's new to the league and still getting settled.  I assume he'll be playing more in the coming games.

Morris was playing LM for Seattle.  He seemed to get lost at that position and pinched in to a LAM role most of the game.  He had one good run for a goal called back for offsides.

Duece warmed up but didn't play.  Seattle was warming up right in front of me and Duece sent several shots into the stands from undefended crosses.  Pretty sure he missed more than he made in warmups.

Marshall and Alafaro looked solid at CB for Seattle when defending the goal in front of me, couldn't really tell if they made mistakes allowing the goals since they were on the other end of the pitch.

Lodiero is probably the best player on Seattle, but he was playing RS and I always thought his best position is CAM.  Not sure what to make of that.  His ball control and dribbling stood out in the game, but he never really seemed to threaten the goal.

The MLS recap of the game for anyone interested.

English FA to punish diving retrospectively.  2 match ban for diving

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/05/18/divers-could-face-retrospective-punishment-next-season/

Players who take a dive face being banned for two matches next season after the Football Association voted to allow retrospective action to be taken against simulation.

The FA’s annual general meeting approved the introduction of trial by video for any player who, by diving, either wins a penalty or causes an opponent to be sent off.

A three-strong panel made up of a former match official, manager and player will independently review such incidents under a new offence of ‘Successful Deception of a Match Official’.

Players will only be charged if the panel is unanimous that a dive occurred, while anyone yellow carded or sent off as result of an opponent’s simulation could have his or her sanction rescinded.

Yeah, I dont think he comes back unfortunately.  And I love him but I look forward to the speed, movement, and interchanging of Martial, Rashford, Mkhi in the attack.  A lot more dynamic then Zlatan.  If he comes back I won't be upset though.
I thought he was signed for another year?

too bad it's limited to those situations only... lot of yellow cards handed out because of diving mo-fos- and lots of non-pk fouls from diving that end up as goals from the resulting free-kick.

going to be really tough for the retroactive call though... full speed, guys riding the contact/tackle and going down instead of taking the contact full-on- hate to see that called as a dive.

You Atlanta fan who go to the games, make sure you get the new schedule.  A bunch of games have been moved to back load Atlanta's home schedule.

Atlanta will now have 6 straight home games to end the season.

Chargers announced that they will be playing at Stub Hub through the 2019 season as their new stadium has been pushed back a year from 2019 to 2020 for opening.

@Poke_4_Life glad you had fun. It's such a great place to watch a match

Melia has been incredible this season. If he keeps it up the Bruce will have to give him a look

The highlights I have seen of Melia have been really good.  He has really been a journeyman keeper for so long but has been solid for KC ever since he won the starting job.

He is around 30 years old right?

He just turned 31 earlier this week, so not that old for a keeper.
Melia has had an unusual career.  Was in the minors for a while, on RSL roster but cut in 2010.  Then made six appearances with Chivas USA in 2012. SKC picked him up as an FA when they had injuries to their top two keepers in 2014.  He won the starting job in preseason 2015 and has never looked back.

Sometimes it clicks later for keepers and at 31 there should be lots of time left in his career.

Oh and his distribution was on point last night.  Like of the highest quality.  Long balls, passes with the feet, throwing/rolling it out, all of it was pinpoint accurate.  And quick decisions too...  his distribution in the back was on par w/ the CBs, and SKC loves to play the ball out of the back.

Was gonna edit my "edit", but we're all cool now, right?  You all know Kafka gonna Kafka... dammit, now I gotta edit my edit?  Ancora?  Tambien?  Nah, I'm good.   :hifive:  to all in this/these  forum(s)...had a recent change of direction in my life, & subsequently my family's...some know more than others, but suffice it to say...GRAZIE!!   I truly feel upbeat & carefree, wherever I may be... :hifive: .

Bundesliga Match Day 34

Bayern are champions, and have clinched a CL Group Stage spot.  Leipzig has clinched a Group Stage spot as well.
3rd is Group Stage and 4th is CL Playoff Round

3 Dortmund 17-10-6 61 68:37 +31 Dortmund host Bremen, currently 8th. Bremen are still trying to earn a Europa spot.
4 Hoffenheim 16-13-4 61 64:37 +27 Hoffenheim host Augsburg, currently 14th. Augsburg are trying to avoid relegation.

5th is Europa League Group Stage, 6th is Europa Third Qualifying Round

5 Hertha Berlin 15- 4-14 49 41:41 0 host Leverkusen. Currently 12th
6 Freiburg 14- 6-13 48 41:56 -15 at Bayern
7 Köln 11-13- 9 46 49:42 + 7 host Mainz. Currently 13th and still in the relegation threat.
8 Bremen 13- 6-14 45 58:60 - 2 at Dortmund
9 Gladbach 12- 8-13 44 43:47 - 4 at Darmstadt, Relegated

If Frankfurt beat Dortmund in the DFB Pokal next week, they will earn a Europa League Group Stage spot.
If Dortmund wins, since they have already qualified for the CL, 6th will move up to a EL Group spot, and 7th will earn the EL 3rd Q round position.  This is the only way that Mönchengladbach can qualify.

Ingolsdatdt and Darmstadt have both secured relegation.  The Relegation playoff spot is still in play.

13 Mainz 10- 7-16 37 44:53 - 9 at Köln. Currently 7th and fighting for Europa
14 Augsburg 9-10-14 37 35:51 -16 at Hoffenheim. Currently 4th and fighting for a CL Group spot
15 Wolfsburg 10- 7-16 37 33:50 -17 at Hamburg
16 Hamburg 9- 8-16 35 31:60 -29 host Wolfsburg

If Hamburg and Wolfsburg draw, or Wolfsburg wins, Hamburg is in the Relegation playoff.  If Wolfsburg loses and Mainz and/or Augsburg loses, then it will come down to point differential.

Stuttgart has secured Promotion from BL2.  Hannover and Braunschweig are fighting it out for straight promotion and playoff.

Hannover 19-9-5 66 50:31 +19 at Sandhousen. Currently 11th
Braunschweig 18-9-6 63 48:35 +13 host Karlsruher. Relegated

Braunschweig needs a win and a Hannover loss, with a big goal diff swing.  My great grandparents came from Hannover, so kind of pulling for them to come back up.
Also, Bayern's city "rival", 1860 is fighting to avoid dropping to BL3.

With all of that being said, if you watch for any reason this weekend, it should be to see Philip Lahm's last match before retirement.

8 Bundesliga titles, 6 DFB Pokal championships, 1 Champions League Championship, 2 second place finishes, and of course a World Cup title.
And More

A great player, captain and evidently a pretty decent guy.

There's witticisms, racist innuendo, stereotyping, and gringo grief aplenty here...I'm just too tired right now.  How bout I just say @Sebowski somehow manages to be a Bolivian *******.  How? At such altitudes, I don't know either...
Land locked but soaking wet because laundry is done in the river.

Fun stuff in the US Open Cup

U.S. Open Cup shocker: @ChristosFC, a pub team from Baltimore, goes on road to upset second-flight @RichmondKickers, 1-0 #USOC2017
They have started a GoFundMe page to try and get enough funds to travel to Chicago for the next game to play against the local PDL team.

If they raise enough funds and win the game in Chicago, they get to play DC United in the following game at home.  Pretty cool for a pub team.

I guess you have to file this under "can only happen in MLS" type of thing.

Immediately after Philly finished its longest winless streak in team history, they have set a new team record for most consecutive wins.

Don't no where else to put this, but, the Super Cup match for 2017 already has great appeal.

@The Gator Madrid / Juve taking on @B Maverick @AAABatteries United or some other team that shares the same name as some washing machine soap get together on August 14. Promises to be, very exciting.

Already looking forward to this match :banned:

Atlanta United beat up Houston pretty good last night 4-1.  Almiron with a hat trick - the first goal was great, the second goal was outstanding (including the buildup)

Think this was an FFA first?

@Kafka's son's team was short handed yesterday, so my kid and his teammate filled in as guest players.  Talk about worlds colliding.

They lost 5-2, but was good to see GB Kafka. His boy scored a nice goal.

We went to the Philly game last night. Ton of fun - I have almost no voice left. They beat Colorado 2-1 after a crazy second half.

CO forward gets hurt and didn't like that he didn't get a foul. Runs his mouth and gets a yellow. He received treatment so Had to wait to come back in. He was beside himself and finally came back on without permission. We all went nuts - ref sees it and boom second yellow. The crowd was so nuts. So much damn fun.

Thats four wins in a row with a combined 11-1 score.  Quite the turn around.

They had a camp at the stadium thing so we stayed and camped with the boys soccer friends. 8 kids together playing random pickup soccer until midnight on their near perfect field. Lights out at 1am and then woke up to them blasting their DOOP song over the PA system at 6:30.  :hangover:

...aperitif...Ned...that's the word I was looking for yesterday...

(...don't ask why that was brought up at a youth soccer game...it's a DE thing.)
