***Official Soccer Discussion Thread*** (6 Viewers)

We have discussed this before, and the headline is a bit pre-mature - because I am sure money can fix all issues - but right now it looks like RB Liepzig are going to miss out on both Champions League and Europa this season.

UEFA will rule next month on the ownership issue - common owners are not permitted to enter more than 1 team in a competition. RB Salzberg, by virtue of winning the Austrian Bundesliga - would get the spot in CL, and because they could be dropped into Europa at some point, Liepzig would not be allowed in that competition either.

This article does not discuss it, but I think Red Bull had been taking steps to ensure both European clubs could be considered distinct entities with different ownerships - so between that, and some money changing hands, I expect Liepzig will be able to compete - but it would be a big setback for the organization if Liepzig are banned.  I am pretty certain Liepzig are considered the crown jewel of the Red Bull teams - so unless Red Bull create an un-sporting race car-like team rule that prevents Salzberg from finishing ahead of Liepzig in the respective standings, it seems unlikely that Liepzig can achieve its goals - and the model would be broken.
And just like that, the story is over.

UEFA admits both to CL>

Should come as no surprise, but the addition of Salah (medical tomorrow) will bump LFC up my pre-season rankings.
I am no math(s) major - but how is that even possible?  Can you be ranked higher than 1?

Is there a team 0 - that is the de facto champion, and everyone else plays out the season to see who gets the remaining CL slots and relegations?

Just so you know if I had to rank the teams before the transfer window starts, I'd probably put Tott first.  But of course, I'm still a relatively new fan and will likely get swept up in the transfer fervor and Tott will drift down the rankings as the summer goes along.

Spurs are in trouble imo.

Injuries already mounting - Lamela out until winter, Rose will miss the start of the season, Son will miss a couple of matches in August - and thats even before you factor in home games at Wembley this season.

Levy is still nickel and diming every transfer prospect - meaning any meaningful deals will not be done until August - so they will miss the start of the season.

Open the season at the site of their last meltdown - at Newcastle, before opening at home against Chelsea.  Poch might be sacked, and Spurs relegated before we even get to the transfer deadline...

Depends on who they feel is attainable. The  speed from Salad is definitely needed... Their lack of speed hurt when Mane went down.
I agree totally.  Yeah, if somehow signing Salah put at risk the signing of a CB and a LB, then yeah I'd question it.  But I think those acquisitions are independent of this one.

As it is, Mane/Salah is something few teams are equipped to cope with.

No matter what the top teams do, Tottenham just destroy the bottom feeders of the league, so they will be there in the mix imo.

Arsenal are the team with the trickiest off-season, but that could all go away with Sanchez/Ozil/Ox re-signings and a Lacazette/Aubameyang addition.  Or Sanchez could leave, Ozil could follow, and the whole thing could go up in flames.

Yeah totally sucks. If MLS is going to decide the next 4 teams before 11/18 we are cooked over here :sadbanana:
This below is not the best worded statement from the potential owners in SD but it seems like they are willing to hang around to see what happens.

I think MLS really wants to be in SD and they really are under no pressure to announce teams 27 and 28 this year.  I could see them easily just choosing teams 25 and 26 this year and then putting off the next two until the end of 2018.

Its not like SD is the only city struggling with their bid.  Giving this another year might help some other groups as well.   Although Sacramento will likely be pissed.

I will truly miss him.  Class act all around, & his game will only improve.  His tactical awareness has matured,as well as his vision & anticipation in the final third.  One of my all time Roma favorites, & he was only there two years.

ALL HAIL...CAESAR SALAH!

Always loved the Egyptian Messi. It looks like Roma tripled their purchase price from Chelsea in 2 years, so good for them.

Salah Alaikum, Wa Alikum Salah!

I wonder what's in a Scouser Salad.  Probably kippered herrings and shattered hopes and dreams.

I was just coming here to post that.

Salah's a fine player, but don't Liverpool have more pressing needs?
Turns out that quality CBs are in short supply.  I'm sure they'll try to do something at LB so Milner becomes more of a squad player, but I thought he was fine last year.

Regardless, the lack of depth behind Coot, Firm, Mane, Lallana absolutely killed them last year.

Oscar with an 8 game ban for inciting a brawl by kicking the ball twice into players during the flow of the game and then flopping on the ground like a fish. Chinese super league indeed

healthy porridge would've helped.

I guess Chelsea does... maybe City (RM, BM too) but how many teams have that much depth to cover four top guys?

This is a pretty interesting idea

China's U20s to play next term in Germany's 19-team Regionalliga Südwest (4th tier). But won't appear in the table. All teams voted yes.

This is probably a little like a needle in the eye for so many of the possible expansion teams struggling trying to figure stadium solutions

Well it now official...sigh...Mo Salah! signs with Liverpool.  First Totti, now Salah.  KNWA: "Kafka Now Walks Alone"

I usually abhor players who use Roma as a stepping stone (knowing full well that's the hard reality, but #### all that!), but not this gent.

@The Gator, @Dinsy Ejotuz, @shader et al; I hope he works out well for you wankers,  you don't deserve it, but he does  ;)

"%^&*@!" doesn't get the edit anymore? That's ####### bull####; it loses all its luster & impact!  ####### stupidass wankerass decision, imho.

:lmao:  eta: NOW IT DOES! Kafka gets #### done fellas...see?

That commentator was out of breathe by the end of that.
I didn't hear it live because we were watching German coverage, but it has to be one of the all time great goal calls. Only 4 years removed from the Malvinas war, the emotion associated with that game is something I've never experienced since.
