Chicago was one of the worst teams in the league for years.  

They made big changes in the off season adding Schweinie, Dax McCarty (from NYR), Juninho and  Nemanja Nikolić.

All have made strong contributions.  Nikolic got off to a fast scoring start bagging 16 goals but has gone cold recently, which has led to Chicago losing 4 of their last 5.  

Team is coached by Veljko Paunović who led Serbia to the U20 WC title.

New York fans get to watch the two most tactically fun teams in the league.  I'm jealous. 

 
Yeah, I haven't really seen the FIRE! since the skid happened.  Before that, obviously I enjoyed the Schweiny/Dax partnership (two guys who just know how to play).  And I thought Polster was an exciting fullback.  I wonder is Accam's tantrum about not being selected by Paunavich for the All Star team has killed the attack.

He was there in one of the games, though I don't watch them every game to know if it's standard.  The have Lawrence on the left who likes to bomb down that side.  

I think the best way to say it is that they keep a spine of BWP, Kleistein, and Long with everyone else being bees on one side or the other.  It's really fun to watch when it's working as it seems like they have 13-4 guys on the field.

Marsch has figured out how to get a very low payroll consistentlyl pressing high on both sides of the ball with nice success. 

Look out for my neighborhood lower East side kid, Muyl busting his hump out wide.

Here's an actual NYCFC stadium update (Katz is the Queens borough President up for reelection over the next 2 months):

Looking ahead to the next four years, if re-elected, Katz called either a hockey or soccer stadium being built in Willets Point in the near future “very realistic,” with the New York Islanders and New York City Football Club seen as possible tenants.

“I would like to see soccer, at least, at Willets Point, along with affordable housing,” she said. “I wish the Islanders would come in. I’m a big advocate for that.

“Right now, only about 35 acres has the city taken over,” she added. “So you wouldn’t probably be able to do the Islanders plus a soccer stadium there. If there’s only one, I want soccer and affordable housing.”

Here's some serendipity - the last time I was at Toyota Park, I saw Bradley's older brother Sean, playing for Chelsea against the MLS All-Stars.  The Fire! were represented at that game by Nate Jaqua, one of my favorites in the brief few years I used to go to Fire! games when I lived in Chicago.

Items on the core concession menu, which consists of the above products, as well as typical fan favorites like waffle fries, nachos or a basket of chicken tenders with a basket of fries, will all range in price from $2 to $6.

The reason for the low pricing say stadium officials, is because it wants fans to have the best game-day experience possible.

“We overpay at every stadium, ballpark, arena. We grudgingly accept it or we complain,” said Mike Gomes, AMB Sports & Entertainment Group’s senior vice president of fan experience. “Our Fan-First menu extends to every item on all menus across concessions. Every item has a fan-first approach – not stadium pricing, but fan-first pricing.”

La Liga president Javier Tebas is studying an offer from U.S.-based promoter Relevent Sports to have Real Madrid and Barcelona play regular-fixture matches abroad starting in the 2018-19 season.

Charlie Stillitano, chairman of Relevent Sports, the event organiser for this past summer's Real Madrid-Barcelona matchup in Miami and the founder of the International Champions Cup, told the Soccerex conference in Manchester that the group is among the promoters who have been pitching the idea of overseas matches to football leagues in Europe.

"It would only a maximum of one or two games per season, just as the NFL and the NBA do," Tebas told EFE on Friday. "It's an issue of promotion regarding these markets [USA and China]. If we want to compete with the Premier League or the Bundesliga we have to create value.

"This is something that we are seriously studying because it has a legal factor regarding authorisations, a financial component too and lastly, a social one regarding the games and the competition that would be involved.

"We would also have look at what [kickoff] time it could be. We are working and studying to know if we accept or reject the idea but it doesn't seem a bad one."

Tebas said La Liga's plans if the proposal goes ahead is for one of two regular season fixtures to be played outside Spain as early as the 2018-19 campaign.

"It could well be for next season," he said.

Speaking at Soccerex, Stillitano, who heads up the promotional company backed by Stephen Ross, the billionaire owner of the NFL's Miami Dolphins, said the proposal is to adopt a plan similar to that used by the NFL, which has broadened its fan base by holding games in London for several years.

"The future [for Relevent] is to do games that are official games in the U.S., China and other places ... There are already leagues -- and I can't say [which], because they are confidential conversations -- that are talking to us about potentially doing something in the future," Stillitano said.

The Financial Times, citing two sources, reported La Liga's plans are to have regular season fixtures played outside Spain as early as the 2018-19 campaign.

The Premier League is the most profitable competition in Europe, with clubs generating €4.9 billion in revenue in the 2015-16 season, while La Liga is a distant second having made €2.4bn.

Since taking the helm of La Liga in 2013, Tebas has been working on strengthening the finances of the country's 42 first- and second-division teams and pushing for the league to catch the Premier League in order to match its economic strength.

ETA:  nope.  10/22.  Haven't been there in at least 15 years I don't think.  Will be legit dusty.

The most difficult thing for me is to put aside all the bias that comes from the first three games and try and objectively look at the teams and what will happen. I honestly think trying to rank these teams is an exercise in futility but it's still fun!

1. Manchester United - First of all, they haven't played anyone.  So I'm not going overboard.  But it appears they've solved their offensive issues and are going to be as strong as ever defensively.  I love the Matic-Pogba-Mkhitaryan-Lukaku spine.  Very difficult to stop.  Still have no idea what Chelsea was doing letting them have Matic.  

2. Liverpool - I remain convinced that Klopp is the best manager in the league and he's added a few pieces that are turning Liverpool into an offensive machine.  While all the podcasts were all talking about the demise of Arsenal and focused on how pathetic they were, there was one piece missing.  They literally had no answers for Salah/Mane.  They simply could not stop either of them.  It seems pretty obvious that there's only one way to play against Liverpool - Sit deep.  But the speed of Mane/Salah won't allow that strategy to work longterm imo.  LFC didn't have a lot of trouble with the parked bus scenario last year until Mane left for Africa and then got hurt.  BTW, yes the defensive issues on this team are legit, which is why I'm not putting this team at 1.  

3. Chelsea - Team hasn't done much in the transfer window that I like.  I hated their Matic move.  Conte's long-term outlook at Chelsea is what hurt their transfer dealings, imo.  But still, he's an incredible manager and Hazard is about to return.  Chelsea will be just fine.  

4. Man City - Not buying this team.  They've spent a ton, but now you have a ton of young guys that Pep has to try and mold into a team and keep happy, despite a lot of bench time.  In Mourinho's world, he has an XI, everyone has responsibilities, and they can grow together and continue to gain confidence and experience together.  This seems to me to be the way that things are done at Bayern, Real Madrid etc.  Yet Pep can't settle on a starting lineup, has too many offensive pieces and the team seems to lack coherency.  I think City are a ticking time bomb as with all the money they've spent, they still aren't that great in central midfield, and aren't that great defensively. 

5. Tottenham - Extremely tough CL schedule.  No real home field advantage....Personally I think Tott have peaked.  They achieved 2nd place twice, and I think that was their window to win the league.  Everyone else got better, Tott didn't really get better.  I think it's vital that they get top 4 this year or else they will see an exodus of players that want out next summer, but I don't know if they'll be able to get it done.  It doesn't take much of a slip to miss top 4, so I'm not implying Tottenham isn't a VERY GOOD team...just that they'll just miss out.

6. Arsenal - I do think they'll start winning some easy games and get themselves back in the mix, but there's also a chance that this thing goes really, really south and Arsenal finishes in the 10-14 range.  They had a horrific transfer window, but at least they held onto Sanchez.  Whether or not Sanchez and/or Ozil can get motivated remains to be seen.  But things look quite toxic for this team, and there's only 35 games to go!

Great start to the new stadium.  Comfortable 3-0 win over Dallas.  Atlanta is in a good spot if they can avoid fatigue over the next few weeks.  Coming in to the match they 4 or 5 games in hand over most of the teams above them in the table.  And they were still holding on to 6th.  It would be a big letdown now if they don't make the playoffs.

The stadium is fantastic - still feels like we are finding our feet as supporters.  I'm not sure how it looked today but it seemed almost quiet at times.  One thing my buddy and I noticed was there were a lot of people just hanging out in different areas of the stadium during play.  Not a huge deal and everybody was having fun but it made it look like there were empty seats even though there were not any.  That and the seats are a little bit away from the field on the ends make it seem not quit as intimate.  Minor quibbles though - it's great and the concessions are fantastic.  We got there 2 hours early and hung out in our club section while watching the Falcons.  Awesome time.

Yep - turf.  

The club area is cool and I don't have to mingle with the peasants. Plenty of TVs and cheap food - I may need to see exactly how early  they open up prior to game time.

 
That turf looks like it plays really nice.  Nothing like the ugliness of Seattle in the past.

I know every one treats field turf like it is the devil but I would much rather see a game on that than some of the cow pastures the US has to play on in Concacaf play.

 
@Native @Txns8 - what do you guys think of Walkes?  He's easily the guy me and my buddy argue about the most.  I think he's meh at best and most times worse than that.  He thinks he's solid.  I'm wiling to admit that Tata must agree with him more than me because he's not let Mears get much time at all.  He had an ok game today, didn't do much wrong but not a whole lot right either.

It looks good - it did seem like the ball checked up weirdly a couple of times when it had some spin on it but overall it seemed to play well.

Im on the side of meh. RB is our biggest weakness.

The echos made it hard to hear the chants on our side of the stadium. We're in 117, opposite from the supporters. Also, with the higher walls for football, we can't see the goal line and didn't know LGP had scored on our side. These are all very minor. Concession lines were great. Standing remains a tradition. Tailgating was great. 

Cant wait for Wednesday!

I had not planned on commenting on the turf because - meh.  However, I love that it is striped!
