Incidentally, one of our auditors was standing over my shoulder while I was looking for a report yesterday and as I was clicking through the folders, I caught myself saying, "like dis, like dis, like dis, like dis" and then when I located the file, I went "goal!"
Best quotes ever.  We use it all the time in sunday league or indoor.  I may have to use it at tonight's game

Looks like Villa's guy won the Willet's Point NYC council seat. Still lots of obstacles to overcome, but there's now a viable path to a stadium there.

Learned two things of note yesterday: CCV scored for Sheffield United this past game and Sheffield United is currently sitting in third place. They just came up, right? How often does a club get promoted in successive seasons?

Oh, obligatory LeedsLeedsLeeds cheer.

Pogba out up to 6 weeks. so that means 5 games (Everton, Burton, Southampton, Moscow, Palace) and then the int break.  Hopefully he sits for France and doesn't push it since the first game back after the break is LIVERPOOL, then Benfica.

What a terrible red on Vertonghen.  I don't know what the referee was thinking.
Pretty certain it was a 2nd yellow - and not a terrible call - blindly threw his arm out and caught Gotze in the face.  It could have been worse - could have grabbed Gotze's boner...

I thought it was given as a straight red.  I don't recall seeing the yellow come out.

edit:  Looks like it was recorded as a second yellow.

#1 Rule of Eastern Europe...don't #### with Albanians
Only things I know about Albania:

1. They border on the Adriatic

2. Their land is mostly mountainous

3. Their chief export is chrome

I know there are a bunch other soccer dad's here, so I'll put this here.  NYCFC has this pop-up store in the Meatpacking District this month and are having a bunch of lectures and other events there.  One of the lectures was given by the director of their New York Academy.  They posted it online and it's sort of interesting for anyone that cares:

Chief reason we moved from last house was because 2/5 houses on cul-de-sac were owned by member of same ####### Albanian family.

I always wanted to fly flag of whoever Albania was playing in last round of Euros but didn't want to have a flare shot thru my window.

Rule #2 - Don't call a Serb Albanian. We have so many Albanians here that the Serb kids sometime get mislabeled. Never made this mistake myself but they're a very vocal people.

They've delayed the match an hour as apparently there are 20K Koln'ers roaming the streets without tickets.  :lmao:
I read that Arsenal only allocate 2k tickets to Cologne.

P.S. I just want to put this out there:  Arsenal should stop a MUD HOLE in Cologne - they area awful this year.

This seems like big news but I'm not sure if the end result will be all that different. FIFA is going to rank all 32 teams for the WC draw instead of just the top 8. According to the article we would most likely end up in pot 3 if we qualify. Still no more than one team from each federation per group excepting UEFA of course.

Was just coming in to post this, too. If we can take them at their literal word, it looks like they'll be using the Oct. world rankings This is interesting that they're doing this just as Switzerland is drawing criticism for "gaming" the rankings to get nice draws in WCQ and Euro. I generally think the rankings are based on a nice premise -- I really like the weighted, rolling four-year period of evaluation -- so maybe just some numerical tweaking is in order to make them really useful.

This is actually pretty good news for our qualifying since it should force Mexico to play out the string since a bunch of the Euro teams under them will also get two more games to accumulate points against some easier opponents (both England and Italy would definitely jump them and Croatia would if they tied Trinidad as well).

If they don't beat Honduras they probably slip to 19th in the rating scale (Russia plus 17 teams in front of them). They get one back since there would be a COMNEBOL team that isn't going, so they'd would need one of the UEFA teams to mess up as well.  Beat Honduras and they should be the 16th ranked team even with everyone below them winning.

It also makes it a lot harder to get the kind of draw we got in 2010, right? I have no idea where Slovenia was ranked going into that draw but it seems like the worst Euro teams would drop into the third pot under this format.

So there will be 5 CONMEBOL teams (assuming the 5th wins the playoff) + Russia.  There are 13 other UEFA spots. So that means 3 of them should be in third pot (4 if Mexico stays in the top 16).

The "good" news is that if we do qualify, we almost assuredly would have enough points to be in the third pot and we would be assured of it if we win twice as we'd leapfrog Iran.  Even with a win and a tie we're probably safe since none of the African clubs can jump us and Honduras/Panama along with 3 of the Asian clubs would be below us as well.

Do me a favor and CC the head of FMF on this so we can be sure they understand the implications.
