Atlanta United has signed Carlos Bocanegra to a contract extension that will run until March of 2022 and promoted him to the position of Technical Director and Vice President.

“We are delighted to announce Carlos to a long-term contract extension,” said Atlanta United President Darren Eales. “Continuity and stability are critical in building and sustaining a successful organization. Carlos’ proven leadership and expertise has been instrumental in building our club’s foundation.  He has built an elite-level, highly competitive roster from scratch and has forged seamless relationships with our players, [Head Coach] Tata Martino and [Director of Soccer Operations] Paul McDonough. He has also been instrumental in building a top-class Academy which currently has five players representing their countries in the FIFA U17 World Cup.  I’m proud of the work Carlos and the technical team have done to contribute to our record-breaking inaugural season, and look forward to working with him to further build on the club’s success.”

good for him- stalwart and quality US player... good to see/hear he's having continued success off the field.

Sounds like Kaka will be riding off with Pirlo

====================

With his contract with Orlando set to expire at the end of the year, Kaka’ is pondering what to do next. The former Milan player is strongly leaning towards retiring from playing as he told Globoesporte: “I’d like to do like Zizou. He stopped playing, took some time off, he saw that he liked to coach and paid his dues in the youth system. I could do like him. Continue playing? I don’t find enjoyment playing football anymore, I feel pain after every match. My body feels it and at the age of 35 it’s hard to recuperate”

good for him- and unlike pirlo, he still had game left and appeared to give it every time he stepped on the field. class act from everything I've heard.

The CONCACAF 4th place team will play Australia.

I believe Holland has to beat Sweden by 7 goals to finish 2nd.

Ugh...

So I'm taking nominations for my WC 2018 fan support.  I'm happy England has so many Spurs in key roles, but after making fun of the 3 Lions for so long I can't seriously root for them.  I won't root for anyone in CONCACAF.

Belgium - Toby and Jan - maybe Dembele

Germany

Spain

Brazil - Paulinho...

Colombia - I hear Shakira is a free agent. (and Davinson Sanchez)

Denmark - if they can get past the playoff - Eriksen

France - Lloris (and Sissoko...)

Argentina - Lamela

If you want to be seriously dissappointed again in their performance and gut punched again, Croatia seems like a good choice.

Want to go Belgium but it means more rooting for the  :fro:  Not sure I can do that.

I have a few Croatian friends and this is their sentiment too it seems.

We should all get behind ICELAND

From another article I read, there was no mention of retiring so I don't know where he is going next

Kaka: At other clubs I was a player...here I was a friend. It's sad that it's finishing, but it's time.
