almost every paper\rag in England says he is going to Arsenal this winter.  I read earlier today he is expected to not play the rest of the regular season with the injury.

Atlanta is up 6 points with 2 games left for the Champions League spot over Red Bull.  NY gets in if they win out and Atlanta loses both.
I was talking specifically about his apparent hamstring injury last game, sorry.

Granted, the guy embellishes every contact as if he's been mortally wounded...so it may have been nothing. But it seemed bad

Yep - I'm constantly yelling at him and Barco to get up and get on with it.  The tell was when you could see he was crying with his shirt over his face.  He knew he was going to miss time.  I fell pretty confident about the team but definitely need him back against RBs to have a good chance.

it was comforting- albeit at home- for the RBs to get a win against AU without Adams or BWP on the field. not that I'd want that for the playoffs- for either team.

Orlando, Chicago, Colorado, Minnesota, SJ and Toronto have all been eliminated from the playoffs.

Houston and NE will be the next two likely eliminations.

I, for one, am going to miss Mourinho.

I also hope that United go for ZZ and leave Poch out of the discussion.
Don't see Poch leaving Tottenham, esp not mid season.

Based on the game, if they were going to sack Jose, the last 20 mins of the game shouldn't change that.  They were overly poor for the first half, again.  The last 20 showed what they could do and begs the question as to why they cant do that for 90?  If they weren't going to fire him, then the game is irrelevant and its a nice come back win.

I think the last 20 minutes saved Mourinho's job.

Its not so much that they won, but its that the players did not give up, and showed the will to keep fighting for the win.  Jose gets sacked once he has lost the locker room - but that last 20 minutes showed the team were still willing to fight for him.

But, as I said above, i would fire Woodward before Jose, not even taking the monetary cost into account.

It may have, we will never know whats really going on there.

But the 20 mins didn't show me anything but how they should be playing for 90 mins game in and game out. Makes you wonder why the can't or don't.  To me it also doesn't erase the first 70 mins, or the last 3 games.

And you can't fire Woodward, he just needs to go back to the marketing side where he is brilliant, and they should hire a Director of Football to oversee that side.

SJ needs a kick in ###- hope it works out for them. I remember liking him as a player.
he has been a really good coach too.  Lots of experience and trophies in both Argentina and Mexico as a coach.  I would have been estactic if he got the US National Team coaching job.

Of course how he does in MLS will depend on how much of a wallet he is allowed but they only have one direction to go which always helps when you are a new coach.

Almeyda, as a non MLS coach, has beaten more MLS teams than the last 3 SJ coaches combined over the last 12 months .

Penn FC (née Harrisburg City Islanders), the local USL team, claims to be taking next season off prior to joining USL1 in 2020.  Oh yeah, and they are moving out of town... a year after new owners bought and rebranded them.   RIP Pro football in Harrisburg.

This stinks in all sorts of way.

Rush, the owners of Penn FC can eat a bag of #####.

I think the Rochester Rhinos are sitting this season out. The reasons appear to be a bit murky, according to my footy buddy in that area. I guess it's still progress of sorts that we're talking about clubs in the lower tiers struggling instead of MLS clubs.

Sooner or later it's all gonna have to be tied together, though, and all of you know damn well what I mean.

Wilmington Hammerheads did the same thing a year or two ago... self-relegated themselves from USL to PDL.  Then this season they sat out of the PDL and appeared to be dead in the water (awful pun sorry).

Oh yeah... the SAME GUY owns Penn FC and the Wilmington Hammerheads.  :hot:

That was the issue the first time. The county wasn't involved when that's where most of the support would come from.

For those unfamiliar, St. Louis City is the area of the center of the city including downtown. St. Louis County is the area outside of the city and where most people live and where most of the money is.

I hadn't heard this revived push so I'll look into it more.
This looks really promising!  If the Enterprise owners are really in as it appears and the need for public money for the stadium has been minimized, this bid could rocket to the top of the list.

Soccer gets another shot in St. Louis as family that owns Enterprise launches bid for MLS team

Atlanta United President Darren Eales in local radio interview in Atlanta- "The rumors around Almiron were nonsense... It was hilarious because I saw the rumor was 11 million pounds, but it will take at least triple that for Almiron to even get me out of bed."

They share a bed?

Thank god for Africa else Concacaf would stand alone as the king of the crazy confederations

Breaking news: AFCON Qualifier matches Ghana vs Sierra Leone & Sierra Leone vs Ghana on the 11th and 14th of October respectively have been cancelled as SLFA did not meet the conditions stipulated in the letter sent by CAF on FIFA’s decision to suspend the federation.

Really strange thing happening in Columbus.

One of the Columbus Crew front office people decided to leave and take a job with FC Cincy (something almost everyone can understand given the mess in Columbus and people trying to plan their life).

Frankie Hejduk, of all people, tore this poor lady to shreds on Twitter for leaving the team.  It was like he lost his mind.   His account was then deleted.  I am hoping this was some sort of hack of his account because if not he looked like a complete tool.

I'm shocked. shocked.

This is almost certainly the future IMO

United States, Canada, Mexico could form combined league after 2026 World Cup - Liga MX chief

And this guy was not just talking crazy talk either.  MLS put out the following statement today in response to this article which does nothing but fan the flames

And then we also have this

Can confirm that MLS and Liga MX have held talks about potentially combining the two leagues. Obviously still in early stages, but if that does happen, what a huge change it would mean for the sport in North America.

Hmmm. I don't know what to think.
yeah me neither.  I have absolutely no idea how that would be managed with the likely size issues.

What I do know is that Liga MX owners are looking into removing promotion/relegation in general (it is already in a suspended state right now due to the lack of finances in the second division.)

I also believe that if an intelligent organization is formed, it could unlock a tremendous amount of tv money which I am pretty sure is the main reason this is even being considered.

Like an AFC/NFC type of divisions?  Mexico has to have more soccer clubs.  That might be interesting.
In terms of financially viable clubs, you are probably going to get the entire MLS (28-32 teams by 2026), probably another 3 from Canada (not including the MLS Canadian sides), and maybe 18 from Mexico (that is the number in the first division right now).

So that is roughly a league size of ~50 teams.

Travel is going to be a botch.

Travel is going to be a botch.
It will be awful but to be fair it is already awful right now in MLS.

some one calculated the longest trip, which is Vancouver to one of the southern Mexican teams (Chiapas) and it was roughly the same as what Vancouver will do when travelling to Miami, if and when they ever start up.

If MLS adds in charter flights as many expect in the next CBA, that is going to make travel so much better.

Not to get bogged down in another pro/rel argument where I gradually lose my mind but, in a large country, a pyramid doesn't have to resemble the one in the European countries, with multiple single divisions lined up behind the top tier. It could resemble, well, a pyramid, where the second tier is actually composed of two divisions to cut down on travel costs. And the third tier could consist of four divisions to regionalize things even more. Actually, the FA does just that, it just starts fanning out in sixth tier and I just counted 19 divisions in the tenth tier.

This isn't really a groundbreaking argument here; I'm just pointing out that there are things a system can do to counteract the problems caused by a geographically big country.

RBs definitely seem to have AUs number - they are calm even without the ball and have frustrated AU.  The thing that AU is good at is if they get the lead they put the gas down.  I'm hoping NYCFC knocks them out in the semis.  :P

Germany does this too, starting in the 4th division where is becomes regional.

In the women's gold cup last night, the US had more shots than the opponent had completed passes.

I don't think I have ever seen that since passing stats started to be reported.

The problems in Mexico at the lower levels make me question my belief that a viable pro/rel system is important to having hundreds or even thousands of clubs flung across the nation, a scenario that I think is best for the sport overall in this country. I still think we have the potential, though, and I still think that that potential is best realized if there is a path upwards for everybody at every level, even if it's a hard-to-accomplish path. We can put together 60+ viable clubs to populate the first two tiers, especially if we merge into a North American league with the Mexicans.

http://www.espn.in/football/club/manchester-united/360/blog/post/3666214/why-jose-mourinho-desperately-needs-zlatan-ibrahimovic-back-at-manchester-united

If the rumours doing the rounds in Manchester's football circles are to be believed, Jose Mourinho is considering a move to take Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to Manchester United in January.
Saw this.  Sadly, with the way United have been playing and seemingly trying to play, Zlatan is a better fit then Lukaku.  They are more of a feed a target player and run off him then they are a run and gun, thru ball type.  Zlatan fits.  Lukaku and his first touch aren't fit for a target type.  He needs to be fed in the channels and let run.

There seems to be a 5% chance that Mourinho is actually still there in January.
I am not so sure.  I want to believe, but I can't.

Key is Man city and Liverpool games.  If he loses both of those, they will run him out of town imo
