Ashley Cole to Derby County to reunite with Lamps

Liverpool and Chelsea legend Glen Johnson retired

In today's head scratcher Prince Boateng to Barca

This could be very bad for NY losing both Adams and Kaku right before the CCL starts with no replacements in sight

Kaku to @ClubAmerica_EN update: I'm told @NewYorkRedBulls asked for $12 million to sell, countering América's offer in the $7-8 million range, hoping the #LigaMXeng club will "compromise" at $10 million, which is what RBNY wanted initially. América said no.
so far, I've only seen reports of players leaving- talk of interest in Murillo (panamian  RB) and now Kaku. along with Adams, those would be huge holes to fill if they happen. the RBs have had success with their limited budget, but I just don't know where the players are coming from to be able to compete with a team like ATL. BWP has been great, but started to look a step slow the 2nd half of last season... and somebody will need to pass him the ball. fingers' crossed for some better news in the coming weeks.

attacking midfielder.  He did not register much since he was never that good in his first season.
He definitely disappointed but I think that’s relative to expectations on the largest signing.  He had some good moments and I remember seeing something that showed he created a lot of chances.  He flashed some brilliance at times but seemed to never connect with Almiron and Josef.

So now Dele Ali out till March too.  Spurs upcoming schedule is soft, but at this point if they don't make any moves, they'll be lucky to stay in top 4.  NFW you are getting many goals with Llorente as your primary target man.

Sacramento is back in the game

=============================

Billionaire financier Ron Burkle has agreed to buy controlling interest in Sacramento Republic FC, a deal that could seal the city’s prolonged and sometimes frustrating bid to land a Major League Soccer franchise.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg announced the deal Tuesday to an enthusiastic crowd of civic and business leaders at the annual “State of Downtown” breakfast at the Hyatt Regency. Reeling in a billionaire “whale” in Burkle, a 66-year-old Beverly Hills supermarket tycoon, could represent the final piece that Sacramento has needed to convince MLS that Sacramento deserves a place in America’s premiere professional soccer league.

“Today, we announce we are now this close to getting Major League Soccer,” Steinberg said in remarks prepared for his speech.

#### off

Charlie ####### Austin?  I'd rather play with 10 men every match, than bring in that hack

ETA - nevermind - confused my Charlies for a second - was thinking Charlie Adam.

But - Spurs won't bring someone in unless they fit the long-term plan.

There really is no reason to panic - just because Kane and Dele are injured and Son is out for two more matches.  By the time someone gets in, and up to speed, they injury crisis will be over.  There isn't anyone who can come in and play immediately for Poch.  The two closest that make a modicum of sense would be Jay Rodriguez or Morgan Schniederlin - who are both HG players, and played for Poch previously.  But, long-term, they are a dubious fit, who would block someone more productive.

ITK - before the extent of Dele's injury was widely known, was club was in for 1-2 players.  Not holding my breath.

Breaking | L’Équipe have now seen the final text message that Emiliano Sala sent to his closest Argentine friends (possibly a group chat of some kind). In it, Sala says he is scared the plane “could fall to pieces” & that “if you don’t hear from me in 1.5 hours...”

Such a sad story...

However, I keep wondering...  does Cardiff get any of the 15mil back?  That is a big splash for an EPL minnow.

They would not have paid the transfer fee until he completed his medical... which he was en route to do

too bad- was really hoping he'd make his way over here sooner than later.

Also USMNT Keeper Tim Howard has announced his retirement from soccer at the end of the 2019 season
yeah- great career.

WRONG THREAD

;)  ... we use the USMNT thread for this kind of stuff... but yeah, hard to keep straight most times.

Frenkie De Jong to Barca - most expensive Dutch footballer in history.  This seems a much better fit than Boateng.  Also, sniped PSG and city on this one, very highly sort after player.

I figured since he's in the MLS it was the right thread  :P

Milant have completed Piatek signing 38M no player exchanges 4 1/2 yrs deal 2-3M in Bonuses. Player will be presented tomorrow and then train with the team. This will then clear way for Higuian to Chelsea via Juventus

yikes.  I wonder if he took a swing at the coach?

Sources: Gregory van der Wiel has been ‘removed from Toronto FC camp’ after an altercation with Greg Vanney for insubordination. Will never play for the team again. Some within the club explored options of possibly releasing him in the offseason over character concerns.

I'm hoping they'll give up entirely on defense and be the pre VVD Liverpool. so much fun to watch.

I'm not feeling too good about where the RBs are right now. Hopefully they make some moves and announcements soon.

other than guys leaving, this is all I've dug up... not a lot of excite there.

UPDATE: Belgian outlet HLN reported on Monday that the New York Red Bulls are the MLS side eyeing Van Der Bruggen, viewing him as a possible replacement for Tyler Adams. The report casts doubt on RBNY's ability to recruit him, however, alleging that he's uninterested in a move away from Kortrijk.

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor

Midfielder Hannes van der Bruggen, captain of Belgian side FC Kortrijk, is attracting interest from an unnamed MLS club, according to a Belgian outlet.

The report indicates a move to MLS remains unlikely, but not totally out of the realm of possibility.

The 25-year-old Van Der Bruggen has spent his entire career in his home country, and was part of the Gent side that won the 2014-15 Belgian league title. He moved two seasons later to Kortrik, a side that has never finished higher than fourth in the Belgian first division.

In total, Van Der Bruggen has scored seven goals in 179 Belgian league appearances, and has also played in 16 Europa League playoff matches.  He has also played for Belgium's U-19 and U-21 sides.

Sports Illustrated: Landon Donovan will come back as a player with the San Diego Sockers of the Major Arena Soccer League
Grew up in SD watching the Sockers in the glory days of Indoor Soccer (80s).  Indoor was a great game to watch back in the day.

I'm told Kaku will stop training for #RBNY until transfer to @ClubAmerica_EN is resolved. Yesterday, he stopped after a few minutes complaining of leg cramps

This comes at roughly the same time that he is going to be sacked.  Sounds like a mess over there

Breaking | AS Monaco manager Thierry Henry announces that he has banished “too many to name” individuals from the 1st team to the reserves in a cull against “players who are only thinking about their own futures” in a bid to turn around the club’s situation.

I'm so stoked for this. The arena is 4 miles from my house and walking distance to 2 breweries. Bunch of us looking at season tickets. Been to games before. Good times already.

I got no problem with a coach taking 1st team guys off for thinking only for themselves. I wish more coaches in sports did this. SHouldn't matter your talent play within the teams rules and guidelines. If you are good enough the team will maybe ask for your input or let you branch out a little more. I've always said I'd be the coach in the NBA who's benching his star player for acting up or missing a team meeting. No one should get special treatment. Respect is earned not given.

We had an issue at my job a female manager stepped down from her DM role. She didn't like how my store was ran and tried to become the sheriff in town when she really had no pull. She became a miserable wreck who many of my co workers or managers liked. She ended up transferring out of my store.

The Monaco thing is nothing new.  Team does not want to play for him.  Monaco is sitting 19th in Ligue 1, just got bounced from cup play by Metz (at home), and they have won just two league games since Henry took over.  This team came in 2nd last year in Ligue 1.  Disaster.

Over in Turkey (as I know there is a ton of interest in Super liga), Fenerbeche if off to it's worst season EVER.  Tons of turmoil at that club too, as they are sitting in 15th place, just two points out of dead last and could be relegated this year.  This is a team that hasn't finished outside the top 3 in over a decade.  Basically Turkey is a 2 or a 3 team league and Fenerbeche is one of those teams.

Are they still at the San Diego Sports Arena?  Has it been renovated?  Such a dump.

Monaco

On 11 October 2018, Monaco dismissed Leonardo Jardim as club manager.  Jardim's position had become untenable after struggling heavily in domestic competition, with the club 8th at the time of his departure, and disputes over the club's transfer policy.
