The long strange journey for Andrew Gutman appears to have reached a conclusion.

I will try to summarize:

* Chicago Fire academy player

* Decided to go to college where he ended up being the Herman Award winner

* Chicago tried to sign him to a home grown deal a couple of times but never were able to close

* Gutman decided to take a trial at Celtic

* He impressed at Celtic where they were reported to want to sign him

* Reports then come out that Gutman went AWOL and Celtic was done with him

* Two days later Celtic announced that they have signed Gutman and were going to immediately loan him to Nashville until the summer

* Chicago Fire (I am assuming) pulled a hissy fit and went to MLS league headquarters not wanting the player they own the rights to, to end up in Nashville (who is a future MLS expansion team).

* MLS was able to force Nashville to reneg on the loan deal leaving Celtic and Gutman collectively saying "WTF?"

* Today Celtic announced that Gutman will be loaned to Charlotte Independence.  Charlotte Independence is coached by Jim McGuiness who worked in the Celtic youth system as a coach

American soccer in a nut shell :(
I'd swear he also trialed at rangers.

Marco Fabian flew into Philly some time today.  The deal is not done but it appears close enough for a medical.  The hope is that they can close this quickly and announce him this weekend.

:(

A fire has engulfed a dormitory at the youth team training centre of one of Brazil's biggest football clubs, killing 10 people.

The victims have not been named but are said to include young players staying at Ninho de Urubu, the training ground of Flamengo football club in Rio de Janeiro.

Three teenagers were also injured, one of them seriously.

This is from Twellman disputing a report from BIL saying Fabian is a short deal so he can join InterMia in 2020. Twellman is exceptionally good with Union info as he use to be our color guy JP.

Despite what you may read in @BILD the @PhilaUnion potentially have a “multi year” deal with Marco Fabian if certain things happen. So this narrative that @InterMiamiCF is “in play” for Fabian isn’t accurate. #MLS #Doop https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/fussball/wechsel-nach-philadelphia-fabian-geht-zu-nikolov-59995360.bild.html?wtmc=twttr.shr …

Union also signed German 3rd Div LB Kai Wagner

The Philadelphia Union added another outside back to their defensive corps on Wednesday with the signing of 21-year-old German left back Kai Wagner.

Wagner comes to the Union via Würzburger Kickers in the third tier of German football, where he has made 44 appearances in all competitions since his transfer from Schalke 04 II in 2017.

“We are delighted to complete Kai’s signing as he is an up-and-coming and very physical left fullback with high ability and even further potential,” Ernst Tanner, Union Sporting Director, said in a news release. “Kai has joined us in Clearwater and we look forward to introducing him to his new teammates and integrating him as quickly as possible.”

Wagner’s signing gives the Union 25 players on the roster for 2019 and as things currently stand all eight of their international roster spots filled. That number could change with pending green cards for Jack Elliott, Cory Burke or Haris Medunjanin.

He gives the Union three left backs on the roster and whether he wins the starting job or not, he’s expected to get minutes when Matthew Real is expected to be away at the U20 World Cup.

Raymon Gaddis started the majority of the games at left back last season (Real made three starts, Fabinho eight) but Sporting Director Ernst Tanner said previously that he prefers Gaddis at his natural right back position.

US MEX legend, jonathan gonzalez, not called up for tata's first camp.
and this is their version of a Camp Cupcake roster as it is only Liga MX Players so it is pretty bad not to get called.

He was injured for a long time and his play since the injury is said to have been poor.

Fabian officially joins Union

As usually terms and yrs were not announced but Fabian becomes the biggest signing in club history. Is it too hard to ask for another striker and a Wing player?
Tannenwald got the details on the deal.   No transfer fee is excellent and the club holds the option.  This was as safe a signing as they could make even if they pay him $2-3m a year.   At worst if he sucks, you cut bait after one year and try again.

Jonathan Tannenwald‏ @thegoalkeeper

Marco Fabian's contract is for one year with multiple subsequent one-year options. The Union did not pay a transfer fee, but Frankfurt gets a five percent sell-on fee if the Union sell Fabián in the future.

second time I've heard this "hair-dryer" comment about Ole.. had never heard it before:

Asked if Solskjaer had shouted at the players, Young told L'Equipe: "That shows you're not in our dressing room, because I can tell you that we've had some hairdryer treatments recently.

"When Ole Gunnar arrived, in a kind of way, I got the impression that Sir Alex was back, because he was accompanied by Mike Phelan and Michael Carrick. But also because Ole Gunnar knows exactly what it means to play for the club.

"He is obsessed by winning, and -- at the same time -- with his players enjoying themselves on the pitch, like Sir Alex."

No but why even reach out over the kid there in the first place?
he wasn't looking at the kid- just had eyes on the player holding the shirt up, figured he was being singled out and the shirt was underthrown.

not condoning being that myopic, but I can see why he acted that way. also pleased the second the other guys gave him the WTF, he realized he was an idiot and gave it to the kid. US baseball game? forget it- they'd knock the kid out to get a baseball or signed somethign.

I hate fans like that but glad he gave it too the kid. Like El Floppo said American sports game forget it the kid is getting bulldozed. We had an incident at a Phillies game years ago between Jayson Werth and a fan. Turns out fan was semi related to my one manager and no one in the family liked him. Werth was also known to be a ##### to fans too. Backstory: Co worker of mine Brother does window work did windows at Jayson's house and he refused to pay him for the work and tried to make BS story why he didn't need to pay. Brother threatens legal action Jayson Pays.

Incident at the game: Werth's last season in a Phillies Uniform I think Sept game or Late Aug early Sept game fly to RF goes towards the stands. Werth goes for the ball and fan reaches out nails Werth's glove and fan catches it acting like he got a HR ball. Werth gives him the WTF are you doing look. Fans are booing the guy and look down in the stands. At first it looked more like Werth was more upset he didn't get a ball going into the stands and just trying to put blame on a fan for not making the play (Even though fan should've gotten out of the way as it was a home player). I thought Werth was just being Werth there. We learned later the fan apparently knocked some kid to the ground and hurt them which is why the fan was getting #### on. The fan had his son with him gave him the ball and Jayson to his credit refused to sign the ball. He learned the other kid got hurt and without hesitation sent the young fan a phillis gift pack with free tickets, visit to CBP to tour it with him and meet the guys in the locker room. Kind of gave me another perspective on Werth though. To the fans credit they were more upset with the guy bulldozing the kid then about the actual play. It looked like two guys in the section were about throw down with the dude before security got involved and escorted this fan and his kid out of the ball park.

I use to go to Phillies BP before Home games all the time and saw ####### adults pulling stunts but to many of the players and other fans credit they quickly learned no one was taking their bullying. Phillies also created a two items per fan policy to stop guys who sold march online. Security was great with that part too. Phillies Pitcher Cole Hamel's was great. I wanted an autograph from him but he politely declined and said if you were a young kid I would but I only sign for the young kids at the Park. I'd be happy if I saw you in public and you came up and said high if we met to give you one but I have a strict only sign for kids at the park. I thought it was cool he did that and he didn't have to explain himself to me but did

FC Dallas management pranks their players by showing them the new jersey's they are trying to decide on and then film their reactions

Still not as good as Phillies yrs ago pranking Kyle Kendrick our pitcher that he was traded to Japan for Kobayashi who was the hot dog 4th of July Contest eater and winner for many yrs. First MLB teams can't trade with Japan and the guy he was traded for wasn't even a baseball player. Apparently the whole team was in on it too including the owners.

Fun Fact though: Kendrick's wife is Stephanie LaGrossa who was on one of the first Survivors (I believe it was the 1st or second one). Anyway her maid of Honor was one of my High School Teachers. Steph for awhile MC'd at Flyers games before Kyle moved to Colorado to play for the Rockies.

Marcotti is reporting this as £250k/week - still overpaid - just not outrageously so.

also - with no transfer fee - it makes sense.  I think we will see more players take this path - Eriksen might be doing it right now with Spurs - he will have one year left on his deal this summer, and might just run down his contract rather than accept a sale in the summer.  It is a risk by the player - in Eriksen's case, he has effectively turned down about £10M over two years by not agreeing to a new deal - so he will probably need a deal around £300k/week to make this work out in the end.

how long before FIFA institutes a "franchise tag"

Real Madrid is having a good run of form and back into 2nd after this weekend :kicksrock:
Meanwhile, Barça's attack is stagnant. Never missed Iniesta or Xavi more. No one is making the passes to cut through the defense. Just running our heads in to a brick wall.

saw something about "family reasons"

"For my own family reasons, unfortunately I can't continue in the job," said Osorio. "I'd like to thank you all for your support. It brought me pride to manage, lead and train the national team."

Harrison confirmed that the decision to rescind Osorio's contract was agreed mutually by both parties during a meeting on Wednesday and said the search for a new head coach would start on Thursday.

How has DJackson not given us the full update on Icardi being stripped of the captaincy and left off Inter's Europa League team yet?  I need my DiMarzio cut and pastes!

Also, I know nothing off Mauro's agent/wife, but the reaction to her reeks of misogyny.  Pretty gross.

I've been waiting on my rebuttal... but the petulant "I'm not captain, I'm not playing" thing can't be entirely true- or if it is, yuck. (just googled- he claims he's in treatment for an injured ankle today that will also put his weekend game in doubt)

there's a combo of misogyny and gamesmanship at play with that whole thing- I don't know her background to see if she has a business/management somewhere there (just googled- lol- yeah... business- like, showgirl business). from the little I've followed, the choices she's made about public comments seem like the wrong way to go about negotiating ("we want to sign a long term contract with inter"), but I don't get paid to negotiate, so wtf do I know.
