I've been wondering what the RBs will do for reinforcements... didn't expect them to sign an 18yo dane

The New York Red Bulls officially announced today the acquisition of Mathias Jørgensen from Odense Boldklub using Targeted Allocation Money, becoming New York’s youngest rostered first-team player in 2019.

Sporting Director Denis Hamlett spoke with reporters after the announcement was made, and touched on the process in acquiring the talented forward who he said wanted to be a part of the Red Bulls organization.

“We've been following him for a while, we have a scouting network set up, and he’s someone that we've been keeping an eye on,” Hamlett said. “The important thing is, when tracking players, it’s about timing and when the right opportunity comes for a player to make that move to come across, because it's never easy. He's a talented young player and I think it speaks volumes that a young player coming from Europe wants to be part of the New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer.”

When asked if Jørgensen would spend time with the second team, Hamlett said it remains to be seen, but does feel like Jørgensen has the qualities that could help the first team immediately.

“I think that remains to be seen but the key part is, like when I think with any young person coming into our team, we feel like part of it is that adaptation process of playing in our league, our culture, but I think that that takes time,” Hamlett said. “We feel like as a striker he has some dynamic tools that we feel that will help us right off the bat. He's someone that is a team player and his willingness to play for the team and I think it's going to be a good fit for us.”

As talented as Jørgensen is, Hamlett said his character played a big part in deciding to bring him over.

“For an 18-year-old young man he is pretty clear in terms of his thoughts, his ideas,” Hamlett said. “He's very humble, he’s got a good attitude. His willingness to be a team player, in the end, when I sort of look and think like this is the character part. We all know that when you look at the players, you know, the tactical and the physical parts of it. Those are components we look at, but for us, character is a big piece for us because of the culture that we're trying to create and bringing the right people that are team players.”

Jørgensen has yet to join the club for preseason camp, as the team is still waiting on clearance with the ITC, but the club is looking forward to getting him on the field.

“We're really excited we’re able to get this across the line and looking to having him as soon as we get clearance with the ITC," Hamlett said. "We're looking forward to having him join our camp.”

no, yes.

but seems like Alli's doing a lot of the hard work on both sides of the ball that isn't as sexy- similar to what Lingard does- that the team needs.
Interesting.  Dont watch enough Tottenham to know, and I am not saying Son is a better player then either, just seems like his importance to the team and making them go is huge.  And they are doing it with him and w/o the other two.

we'd have to hear from the spurs people about how it works when they're all healthy... but it seems like Son doesn't often play with both Kane and Alli... although I could be wrong on that.

I have a feeling this is going to be like the days of early torrenting when the businesses effected really tried to shut things down, playing whack a mole.  Eventually they gave up.

In relation, just as the EPL was being triumphant about shutting down all reddit soccer streams......

Is Son more important to Tottenham then either Kane or Alli?
yes and no.

Its the combination of Dele, Kane, Eriksen and Son that are extremely effective - they each do different things that complement each other - and open up opportunities.

Son has the pace to get behind defenses and is very two-footed, and clinical.

Kane obviously opens things simply by drawing defensive attention - probably the most clinical outside the box - and can hold the ball up well to spring Son on a counter.

Dele might have the most soccer intelligence on the team - he instinctively makes great runs off the ball, creating his own space, and drawing defenders to create space for others.  As Floppo said  - he puts in a bit of the dirty work tracking back.

Eriksen is the straw that stirs the drink - he is at his best when he has all 3 of the others to play with - since they all can find space, and can score.

Those 4 have only started 6 games together for Spurs this season...

If you had to pick a Player of the Year for Spurs right now - it would be a toss up between Son and Sissoko.

Kane would finish 3rd - Vertonghen probably 4th.

remember that euro run where sissoko was france's best player? feels like he's slowly getting back to near that level- but with the peak set so high, the inconsistency and low lows still must be infuriating for fans.

Sissoko is an odd one - I blame Poch as much as anyone.  He had been using Sissoko in positions and roles that accentuated his weaknesses.

The biggest difference this season - Sissoko is being allowed to do what he does best - run north/south through the middle.  I spoke about Dele's soccer intelligence - Sissoko is probably 2nd on the team.  He makes really good decisions.  He cant trap a ball, nor can he dribble in space, and you don't want to get into a short-passing game with him - and don't let him shoot - but he is strong, has pace to move the ball in space, and is a very willing defender.

Dier went out with an appendectomy in December - and right now, Dier does not belong in Spurs best XI - because Sissoko has done so well.

And the other thing about Sissoko - even when he was getting stick from the fans*, he never hung his head, and always gave his best effort.  Sissoko is a good dude - who was asked to do things his body was incapable of doing.  I am happy he found his role this season.

*There is a quote from Poch about this that I will try and dig out - but basically, Poch acknowledged that the players know when the fans are on them - and it affects the players.

ETA -
“I think first of all I am so happy the fans start to show the love for Moussa. I remember a few games here, the fans... we are here and we feel and listen. For Moussa it was not so positive. I remember one day I hugged him and said he will be a success here. All the players have the potential. But they need to feel confidence, the grass, the love."

that euro run... I remember constantly confusing sissoko for pogba- because of the north/south through the middle thing you mentioned- but also because he was doing it with a lot of long-legged skill. haven't seen that from him for spurs.

I wonder if by scouting, it's the entire RB organization doing the scouting and they're picking this kid for the whole organization, with an eye towards bundesliga play.

while I'm interested in young euros coming to MLS, it still seems like a strange move for a proven, quality young player (if that's what he is).

more thoughts from RB management:

In Bradley Wright-Phillips, the New York Red Bulls have one of the most prolific strikers in Major League Soccer.

But BWP turns 34 next month and with a more congested regular season schedule and a plan to compete in multiple competitions this year, including the Concacaf Champions League beginning next week, the Red Bulls needed depth up front.

They found that and more in Mathias Jorgensen.

The young Danish striker, who signed a multi-year deal with the club earlier this week, is expected to “have an impact from the get go,” according to sporting director Denis Hamlett.

“We think his ability to stretch the defense, he’s got some incredible movements up front, again, he's someone that is a team player and his willingness to play for the team,” Hamlett said in a conference call with reporters. “I think it's going to be a good fit for us.”

The 18-year-old has been on the Red Bulls radar “for a while,” with Ben Ehresmann, the club’s head of scouting, watching the Danish youth international compete for Odense Boldklub in the Danish SuperLiga, where he scored three goals in 18 appearances.

When Jorgensen expressed a desire to weigh transfer options, Hamlett knew it was time to swoop in.

“We’ve kept track of him and we’re always looking for the right fit to come into our system,” Hamlett said. “So once it became clear that he wanted to come for a visit, we felt pretty good that we have a good chance of getting this thing across the line.”

Jorgensen toured Red Bull Arena, the club’s training facilities, watched a session and met with the first team and coaching staff before attending a Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays Center.

“For us, character is a big, big piece for us because in terms of the culture that we're trying to create and bringing the right people that are team players,” Hamlett said. “And I think when we met him, I think that was one of the things that really stood out in terms of his humbleness and his team-first mentality, which speaks volumes for a young player.”

So being very limited in my soccer knowledge I was just wondering if you guys could give your take on Orlando's signing of Luis Nani.  Is this a good signing can he help a team that was terrible last year.  Can he carry a team on his own?  What can we expect?  Is he a world class player?

he can help the team.  Here are some highlights of his career https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CubPRCmDSbI

He is no where near a world class player in my definition of the word (top 10-15 in his position in the entire world) especially at his advanced age.

Younger, he was a supremely skilled role player... Best a guy of the dribble, combine well, good shooter of the ball.

Always stuck me as an attitude problem while with man u, which doesn't bode well for an older guy coming to mls. My 2c

Thanks for those links.  I knew we were historically bad just didn't realize how bad.  Looks like we can't help to go up no way we could be any worse at least I hope not.

So Nani is no Kaka.  That is a shame we need another player like him.  I know he was a shell of himself when he played for us but he was such a nice guy loved watching him play.  I sure hope Nani doesn't bring attitude with him that is the one thing we don't need with all the young guys we have.  So there is no way he makes an impact for the team the way Zaltan or Rooney did?

God we don't need an attitude guy unless it's winning attitude.

If you had to pick a Player of the Year for Spurs right now - it would be a toss up between Son and Sissoko.

Kane would finish 3rd - Vertonghen probably 4th.
That reminds, not sure if I mentioned here, that I sat through all of those awards after the game I went to last may in Wembley

Kaka was no Kaka by the time you got him.

Nani was never the caliber of player in his prime that Rooney or Zlatan was.  But his game seems to have aged pretty well.  Between him and Sacha, Orlando should generate some chances.  Dom is going to have start finishing more of them.

Don’t believe everything you read

A few rumors flying around that the Glazers will sell United at the end of the season for $6.8B....to Mohammed bin Salman

That would then set up the obvious UAE v. Saudi Arabia derby - but, given all the baggage associated with MBS, its a little hard to imagine the PL approving this sale - though I don't know if they would actually be able to stop it.

From a financial standpoint - it would be beneficial to the league - assuming there is not a breakaway super league.  But, the stench of another state-owned team would be worrying.

UFC was the same way when they got pretty big but eventually they gave up. However a lot of Government people have really cut down on streams all together including for movie and TV shows. Use to be able to google Free TV Show/Movie Streams, Soccer stream, UFC/Wrestling PPV and a ton of websites pop up. But now it's like 2-3 and then you only find better ones through People are cutting the cord as well and then you got streaming services like ESPN+. Cord cutters are cutting because their local cable companies are dropping the networks they watch the matches or they aren't showing the matches live which was a pet peeve to many fans with BEINSports.

I remember when every US fan acted like this guy was some GOD who walked on water and would make miracles in USMNT and all he did was make a mockery of it and look down on people including MLS. He reminded me of a Soccer version of Chip Kelly during his time in the NFL with the Eagles and 49ers. Shocked he hasn't switched his son from the U USMNT's to the German U's yet.

Pretty cool company to be in this category with The Great Swede for Piatek. No not that Great Swede guys but Gold Ole Gunnar Nordahl Breaks the record for most goals scored in a Milan debut record in Mins.

#Piatek has set a new #ACMilan record, scoring his first six goals for the club after just 310 minutes, with 18 attempts. The previous record was set by Nordahl, who took 410 minutes.

Just bought myself 3 new soccer kits for under $50 and yes they are China knock off but I've already purchased two hockey jersey's off there and they look like the real thing. Got a Piatek Milan Home Jersey, My own name Custom 3rd Milan Jersey and Pulusic USMNT Blue stripes light and dark jersey. I already got my Bedoya Union Jersey and I got a Italy Training Jersey/Shirt already but I had ordered the wrong one. Wanted the Black Trainer kit with the Blue but didn't feel like sending the White back and it fits well anyway. I needed a USMNT Jersey though. Felt weird wearing my Italy or Union Jersey to the matches in Chester for the US Mens and Women's matches I've attended.

As this is not going to happen, worry about taking your time what you waste on TW with nonsense in working!!! Since your intentions are not going to make any profit. Remember to see your other 6 siblings as well, since you never asked for them in TW. Chauu!

Then Matteo Bennatti comments

From incorrectly quoting Mark Twain to having a meltdown and fighting with his own sister on Twitter, the Mauro Icardi saga has gone off the rails.

Also didn't realize how bat#### crazy his wife is and didn't know she was married to Maxi Lopez who had a cup of Coffee with AC Milan in 2012 a year before they divorced after she accused him of cheating and other infidelities and Maxi accused her of the same. During a Match between Samp and inter in 2014 Maxi refused to shake Incardi I wonder what the step siblings relationship is between the 4. Jesus.

An Italian opera with Argentine actors, this is a classic story for the modern ages — all the passion, all the rage, all the drama, forget the Oscars — Inter and the Icardis is the best entertainment.

Official: Michael Oliver will referee United vs Liverpool this weekend.

Fact: Out of 25 referees who have refereed 368 games in the last 9½ seasons, Manchester United have a win percentage of 42.3% when Michael Oliver is the referee – the LOWEST win rate from them all.

Of course the biggest rivalry game gets the worst ref in the EPL... And I would say that regardless of United's win % with him.  The guy is a joke.  The Fellaini of refs.  He can't handle the biggest rivalry is England
