Can someone explain this Sarri/Kepa #### show? Kepa refused to be subbed out? Why was Sarri subbing out his starting keeper? Did he get hurt, boneheaded play get him benched? You got Il Pipa who can't buy a goal right and players refusing to subbed out? And CP has to join this #### show come July!!!!

The story they are telling to calm the storm: Sarri's trainers told Sarri Kep was hurt.  Sarri asked for a sub.  Kepa did not want to come out because he was feeling fine.  Sarri finally douboe checked with medical staff and they told him it was ok to stay in.

What really happened (IMO): Sarri's back up is really good at PK's and they were approaching that stage of the game as the cup final looked dead locked.  Kepa refused to come off, Sarri blew a gasket, left the field and then came back and let Kepa stay in

There's a little more context to the injury story.  Kepa missed the last game (Thursday) with a leg problem. He scrambled for a loose ball late in the game and looked hurt, doing stretches, etc. and it seemed likely he aggravated the same injury.  Eventually the physios came out on the field.  I think Sarri just assumed he had re-injured the same leg and he got Willie ready and eventually told him to report in.  Sarri and Kepa are now saying it was a miscommunication - that Kepa didn't injure the same muscle issue he had during the week, but had a cramp or something. I don't think we'll ever know the truth, and the big question is whether Big **** Willie would have made one more save.

How many years have I been Bolivious to Dortmund fans singing "You'll never walk alone" pregame? In English, too, it appeared.

The Curva Sud at Milan Sings it not sure they do anymore but they sing it in Italian. IN fact if you go on Youtube and type in YNWA  Fossa Dei Leoni (which was one of the biggest ultra groups Milan had till it dissolved because of issues) there's a tribute video to the team with the song in Italian though it could be another Ultra's group

Three minor rule changes coming, expected to be ratified this weekend.

================================

*Player being subbed must leave field at nearest point (I like this one a lot)

*yellow/red cards for misconduct can be issued to team officials

"On a goal kick and a free kick for the defending team in their own penalty area, the ball is in play as soon as the kick is taken so a player -- or opponent as long as they started outside the penalty -- can play the ball before it leaves the penalty area.

And unfortunately, the return leg will not be at the Mercedes Benz but will be on Kennesaw State's campus.  It's a decent stadium for AUFC2 matches or college soccer but it's disappointing to play this game there.  I'm not sure why unless there's a conflict with something - the good news is that will probably allow me to more easily get a ticket (and cheaper).

So a goal kick is up for grabs as long as you start outside the box, even if the ball has yet to leave the box?  This is a pretty small but significant change.

Are they hoping to speed up the game by forcing the kick long if the offense is high pressing?  We've all seen teams that the defender plays the ball in the box back to the GK for a new goal kick if the offense is pressuring too closely. Is that what they are trying to eliminate?

I don't know what the reasoning is behind the rule change.

Rooney is turning into a good spokesman for MLS.  With Villa gone and Zlatan only doing his schtick, this is going to be a useful role for him.

Wayne Rooney on MLS & Miguel Almiron's move to Newcastle: "The standard of play here maybe took me by surprise a bit. I don't know if any of you watched the Newcastle game the other day but Almiron was the best player on the pitch by a mile."

Excited to learn today that my kid shares a birthday with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Plan to annoy my wife with constant jokes about bringing him in off the bench
As awesome as this is, how about sharing a bday with these fine players?

Cristiano Ronaldo, 34.

Neymar, 27.

Carlos Tevez, 35.

Adnan Januzaj, 24.

Gheorghe Hagi, 54.

Stefan de Vrij, 27.

to name a few....

Possible good news for Atlanta fans.  As was reported earlier, if Newcastle remain in the EPL and don't get relegated, the transfer fee for Almiron gets a significant bump.

In Almiron's first two starts, the team has secured 6 points and is now 7 points clear of relegation.

Yep.  They talked about it on a broadcast not too long ago.  They want to eliminate the tactical advantage the offense can get if the GK puts the ball into play in a bad spot.

I think I understand your point, but your statement doesn't make sense.  Wouldn't this change enable the tactical advantage for the offense?

The goalkeeper's team has the ball and is on offense.  GK plays it to a teammate in a bad spot, who steps inside the line to receive it -- creating a tactical do over that gets them out of trouble.

Teams have been doing it more lately and TPTB wanted to stop it.

OK, I get it.  To me that is the defense because the defender is the one getting the ball from the GK.

defense(mode of game) vs defender(position)

An easy way to think of it is when a team is in possession of the ball, all 11 players are on offense (no matter what the name of their position is) and the reverse when they don't have the ball.

Surprised to see MLS not create a new rule to accommodate LA.  But this is the right move imo.

====================

LOS ANGELES (Friday, March 1, 2019) – The LA Galaxy have exercised its one offseason Buyout of a Guaranteed Contract on Giovani dos Santos and the forward is no longer on the team’s 2019 roster, the club announced today.

“We have been working with the player this preseason to reach an agreement that is best for both sides,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “We have come to this decision and believe that it is best for the club and for Giovani. We will work with the player and his representatives to find an on-field solution for the player’s next step. We appreciate what he has contributed to our club and wish him the best in his future.”

Can't believe MLS season starts tomorrow. Union play at 1PM on ESPN. Milan plays at 11:55 so the first half of the Union I'm gonna be back and fourth with them and Milan unless the Milan Match is a rout.

I think the Philly game is on ESPN+, not ESPN.  It is also being shown locally on 6ABC in Philly.

it's a backheel  right in front of goal when he knows there's only the GK to beat.
Yep.  Simple back heel into an open net.  What's the big deal?  Not like he chipped an onrushing keeper who's closed the angle with the back of his heel as the ball's flat on the ground or anything.

I have not seen any as I don't get ESPN+, but I have heard lots of good reviews.

Is it filmed like Hard Knocks?
More or less. Guessing it’s only 200 minutes total, though. Learned more about Bob Bradley than I’ve known before.

Bought one month of ESPN+ just to watch it.

to me, hes just trying to put it on goal with his heel as hard as he can- it can go up, flat- whatever. its a nice goal... but not anything I'd remember tbh- not the Zlat level type of karate chop type of ####.

Touching moments in Italian Matches today. 13" matches will be stopped to pay tribute to former AC Milan Youth player and Former Fiorentina Player And Italy CB David Astoria. Matches stopped for a round of applause. Astori past tragically march 4 last year he wore #13

Fabian in starting 11 for union. Santos starts on bench with Picualt and Burke to start in the 4-4-2 Diamond formation they will use this season

Fun fact today. Which non top 6 EPL team has conceded the least about of goals in a match this season?

Newcastle United. Yes thats not a typo
