Out of curiosity, why doesn't the Premier League schedule the last couple of weeks so that the Traditional Top 6 play each other for added drama?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5702761/Premier-League-deliberately-arrange-fixtures-six-clubs-not-meet-weekend.html

Here's an article that covers your question.  Basically they never match up Big 6 clubs on the opening or closing weekend, or on FA Cup Semi-Final weekend.  Plus they try to spread out their Big Six matchups throughout the season (30 total matchups I believe?)

Sources close to the Premier League confirm the system is in place to appeal to broadcasters and boost attendances.

There are traditionally smaller viewing figures for the opening weekend as it's during the holiday period.

And given the fact that every match on the final weekend takes place at the same time, there is a fear that one huge game would draw attention away from the others.

Some how Brad Friedel has out lasted another MLS coach.  Cincy fired Alan Koch today.

I hope the new coach introduces himself to Saief for the Nats sake... :(

Man, this press release is pretty much what passes as a diss track in the PR world.  Koch burned him some bridges.

Cincy beat writer reporting some "big names", including two with Premiere experience have been linked to the Cincy job.  Going by those factors and the additional criteria of being able to feign enjoyment of Skyline Chili (eliminating Arsene Wenger from contention), I'm ready to fire up the BIG SAM TO MLS klaxon.

sounds like the team already knows how to not score goals.

:censored:

United is where they deserve.  This team has no heart.  Ole has a lot of work to do. Sadly when he came in and took the Jose Reigns off, they showed what they could be.  Then they stopped. Team MVP? Herrera.  Only person able to get the most out of Pogba.  They are so much better with him.  And he is going to be lost to PSG.

I will still root for Watford to win the FA Cup, mostly to beat City, and despite the fact that it would put United into a play-in game... FOR THE EUROPA LEAGUE.

Sell or let go of Young, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Valencia, Darmien, Sanchez. Matic?, Mata?

Buy: Center Back, Right Back, depth at all defender spots, Right Wing, Herrera

Miami is finally moving forward.

Because of our passion for the game and for the growth of soccer in South Florida, we have decided to no longer pursue our lawsuit against Miami Beckham United (@InterMiamiCF) and @FTLCityNews and have withdrawn our 2nd ranked proposal for the redevelopment of #LockhartStadium

==============

The demolition of old Lockhart Stadium will start this week.   They expect to have the 18k stadium up and running by next year (it is intended to be a USL and academy stadium so I assume it will have zero bells and whistles), while they continue to negotiate with Miami for their permanent stadium.

It looks like Chelsea are going to be cutting it close on the Transfer Window this summer.  FIFA just upheld the 2-window ban, albeit allowing Chelsea to sign players under-16 (which, ironically is what got Chelsea the 2-window ban in the first place.)

Chelsea can now appeal again - but to the Court of Arbitration for Sport - where they will seek to suspend the suspension, and then reduce the suspension.  I don't know how quickly CAS will act, or whether they will lift the ban for this summer.

Fifa have announced, following an appeal, they have upheld Chelsea's two-window transfer ban, but the club can sign players under the age of 16 during the ban. Chelsea can now go to CAS to try to get the ban frozen and overturned #cfc

FDB has the pressure off (for now) after back to back impressive performances against KC and then against Toronto last night.  I was a little worried with Barco out at the U-20’s but they looked good.  They still have a hole at LB as Shea has continued to look bad but overall you have to pleased where they are considering the start to the season.  Won their 2 games on hand and they are level on points with DC and Philly.

Things are going swimmingly here in NE.

In one 24 hour period:

* The Revs set a league record by allowing the most goals over a 3 game span (15 for those wondering).

* The Revs had their highest transfer fee ever accepted by the selling club and the player took one look at the Revs and said "you're kidding, right?"

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced today that Brad Friedel has been relieved of his duties as the club’s head coach, effective immediately. Revolution Assistant Coach Mike Lapper will take over as interim head coach while the club begins the search for its next head coach.

One week left in the Bundesliga, and lots to decide.
Bayern win the league with a win or a draw, they host Eintracht Frankfurt .... also, Bayern can lose and still win with a loss or draw by Dortmund.
Dortmund win the league with a win AND a Bayern loss, they play at Gladbach.

C Bayern München 23- 6- 4 75 83-31 52
C Borussia Dortmund 22- 7- 4 73 79-44 35
C RB Leipzig 19- 9- 5 66 62-27 35
C Borussia Mönchengladbach 16- 7-10 55 55-40 15 ceu
E Bayer Leverkusen 17- 4-12 55 64-51 13 ceu
E Eintracht Frankfurt 15- 9- 9 54 59-43 16 ceu
U Wolfsburg 15- 7-11 52 54-49 5 ceu
Hoffenheim 13-12- 8 51 68-48 20 eu
Werder Bremen 13-11- 9 50 56-48 8 u

(c) Positions 1-4 qualify for Champions League group stage.
Bayern, Dortmund and Leipzig have already qualified.
Mathematically Gladbach, Leerkusen, Frankfurt and Wolfsburg can earn the 4th spot.  Wolfburg's goal diff realistically rules them out though.

(e) Positions 5 and 6 qualify for Europa League group stage.

(u) Position 7 qualifies for Europa League 2nd round qualifying.

Stuttgart will be in the relegation playoff against Paderborn or Union Berlin from BL2
Hannover and Nürnberg are relegated.

So glad to see the end of this season.  United has a ton of work to do to get moving in the right direction.  A lot of dead weight to unload.  Need players with skill and heart that want to play for the shirt.  Players that fit a system and a direction.  Need to balance the team out and bring in competition everywhere.

years in the making.  The guy could not even understand the most basics of the salary cap.

Of course the problem remains is that house cleaning only goes so far when ownership is the root of all evil.

and there was much rejoicing

Meanwhile, the Revs are playing Chelsea in an exhibition in Boston Wednesday night for their ‘Final Whistle on Hate’ match (Say No to Antisemitism).  Chelsea of course still have to play the Europa League final on May 29.

Here's the travelling team:

Goalkeepers: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Willy Caballero, Rob Green

Defenders: Marcos Alonso, Davide Zappacosta, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Emerson Palmieri, Marc Guehi, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James

Midfielders: Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher

Forwards: Gonzalo Higuain, Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Ike Ugbo, Olivier Giroud

I can't imagine anyone paying more than $20 or so to see these guys do a 90 minute kick-around.

Well maybe when the PL wraps in their investigation, you’ll get your wish.

Currently City are under 4 different investigations
At this point it would be for next season I think.

But given the stuff that's been released I don't see how they dodge a penalty.

Fully expect Bruce Arena to be named in at least one capacity if not BOTH capacities of GM/Coach for #NERevs this week.
Twellman nails it again

=======

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have appointed Bruce Arena the club's sporting director and head coach. Arena, the winningest coach in United States Men's National Team history and a five-time MLS Cup champion, brings more than four decades of coaching experience at the international and domestic levels to the Revolution.

“Bruce is one of the most successful coaches in American soccer history, and we feel his commitment to excellence, track record of winning championships in Major League Soccer, as well as his success at the international level, makes him the best person to bring the Revolution back to MLS Cup contention," Revolution Investor/Operator Robert Kraft said. "We have known Bruce dating back to the advent of MLS, and we have full confidence that he will raise the level of our club to the standard we all expect and demand.”

Is the Arenas signing a sign that the Krafts may start taking soccer seriously?  Or is it a PR move that just puts a band aid on a massive gaping wound?

Tell me how to feel!!

It's UEFA. They leak horrific penalties to scare clubs into toeing the line. Then they'll make up a penalty that looks harsh and move on.

I fully expect something like a 3-window transfer ban and 5 points from their coefficient. But then allow Citeh to appeal through a summer window to do all the business up front and then be Jan-Summer-Jan. That'll show em.

it is impossible to know what is going on.

The decayed state of the team, the empty stadium and the lower than low importance of the team locally is impossible to miss even by the Kraft's no hands on approach standards.

I don't see any reason why at Arena's age he was not given assurances that he was going to have a large budget to spend, and Arena himself like'y is getting paid more than all other Revolution coaches in history combined.

This level of investment is promising when you also factor in they are spending over $30m to build the academy development center.  That is no small chunk of change for owners as frugal as the Krafts.

As always time will tell.

Do you guys have any go-to sites for reliable transfer rumors?  I understand that’s an oxymoron
I really don't believe there is such a thing.  Not to be flippant about it, this just doesn't exist.  Usually, if there's enough smoke around a rumor, there is probably some fire in it somewhere (Hazard to Madrid.)  But even in those cases, deals can break down and there are often surprises, so there's really nothing that is official unless/until it comes directly from the club or player.

Can't even count on the "I'll wait until he's holding the jersey up at a press conference" anymore after Lampard did that for NYFC and then went to Man City.

Villa just beat West Brom in a penalty shootout. Hopefully Leeds takes care of business tomorrow and then again against Villa. Villa can't come up until either Burnley or West Ham go down, we're full up on claret and blue for now. These are some of my favorite matches to watch every year.
