Was listening to a discussion about Liverpool's season this morning and what we might see going forward. The lead in was an overheard conversation between a LP and Arsenal Fan. Arsenal fan going on about the Invincibles and their greatness and the Liverpool fan not really caring about matching that. Next came the thought that winning the EPL and CL could be done and how they might go about it. Sounded like suggesting they throw away the FA Cup and concentrate on the CL, since the EPL is pretty much theirs.
Then of course the topic of best team ever came up. That discussion has come up a lot lately with City and Liverpools record breaking seasons going on the last couple. Which brings in the Invincibles and the United Treble.
With them having to lose 5 of 19 in the league and City or LC having to be perfect to not win the league title, seems silly to not go for the treble. Esp with how well they are playing right now.
My buddy who is a supporter, is all about the EPL title. Doesn't really care about anything else. Is that the majority of fans thoughts? I am curious what other Liverpool fans think.
I can only speak for myself, but it's all about the league title. It's been 30 years, but it's more than that. It's how that era ended, with Hillsborough, the Thatcher years, financial difficulties, followed by years of trying to rebuild the city, all the issues surrounding Hicks and Gillett, owl face Hodgson, being close to going into administration, the continued Hillsborough inquests, lack of justice... I don't expect anyone here to understand or even know the history or why it transpired, but as far as I know, most older fans only care about the league.
I'm not really interested in talking about trebles, or doubles, especially with the injury situation what it is. I think we have 13 senior players fit at the moment, so rotation is out of the question, unless we start bringing kids in. I expect us to be forced to rotate in kids for the FA cup tie, and expect Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Hoever, Chiravella, Neco Williams, maybe Nate Phillips and van der Berg to all be part of the squad on Sunday. Getting Minamino in to add depth will definitely help, but I don't expect him to be purring this early, only having trained 3-4 times.
We need 13 wins in the remaining 18 to guarantee the title, and that's no easy feat:
