If so....yeah, he's trying WAY too hard to show how woke he is about that whole situation. As probably the most connected and well known national writer, I kinda think he, if anyone, would present the balanced perspective.

I clicked un-follow when he said that Megan Rapino should be the US Soccer president. 

I am probably going to unfollow Tutal for a while.  The guy is awesome when he has soccer to talk about but now he just posts hourly death rates of the virus. :(

I was at this game.  The Balboa bicycle was right in front of us (I was behind the goal).  I believe the infamous goal was at the other end.

I used to play against Marcelo...he liked to bike- not the first time I saw him do that...but pretty amazing stage for it!

I remember Tab having a motm game vs Colombia...just amazing. I knew when he got brained vs Brazil that the us wouldnt have anybody to break down the Brazilians, in spite of the man advantage

English FA have declared several of the lower leagues over, with the seasons null and void - no promotions/relegations.

All football in England below the three divisions that make up the National League will end immediately and all results will be expunged.

It means there will be no promotion or relegation in these divisions.

The same will happen in the women's game below the Women's Super League and Championship level.

Obviously they are holding on to the notion that they will complete the top-level leagues at some point this year - but the precedent has now been set for voiding the season.

Eta2...this is a blood bath. Andy Cole hattrick to 4-0 partway through. Not seeing the "classic" element of this....yet

Now it's 5 after a typical slashing driving run down the left by Giggs. And mark Hughes was super skillful #10...I honestly had no idea about him as a player.

ETA 3... Now at 6-0 I remember why this is a "classic". Although not so much for Ipswich fans. Make that 7

Almost 5-1/2 mins into a 4 min extra time.  Announcers said it best with something like this is what happens at Old Trafford, they just go until something happens.  And Hughes should know that.

Record setting game.  But the thing that goes overlooked is that Roy Keane played right back for this game.  And this was long before SAF destroyed Arsenal (and alienated Paul Pogba) with 7 defenders.

They are dreaming if they think they will pull this off.  I don't think the players will go for it - and while they do not have a strong central union - I think they will oppose playing a lot of matches in a short time period - with no fans.

Aside from wanting to see Liverpool not win the title - this just make me realize how greedy the billionaires who run the PL are - they are worried about losing ~£40M per team in revenue.  That is what is driving their discussions.

And, you don't yet see an any effort from the PL teams to reach into their own pockets to help salvage some of the teams in the lower levels who absolutely rely on match-day revenue.

 
I get that this is all fun and banter, but Liverpool winning the title is not the issue with playing out the remaining games, as soon as it is safe to do so. The bigger issue is the disastrous financial impacts of not playing out the season. There will be clubs, even in the PL, and more the further down the pyramid that will go under. That affects not just the sporting side, you also have game days staff, non-playing staff, sponsorship repayments, law suits etc etc.

It is not just the money to Sky that's the issue.

Kieran Maguire (University teach in finance and accounting) has a good book discussing football economics:The Price of Football and he also have interviews and articles online discussing the long term financial impact of this crisis.

I worry that if the pyramid stop working, or collapses, the traditional leagues will crumble, and UEFA/FIFA/whoever will push through the European Super League or whatever they are going to call it.

I think you have this backwards.  UEFA is going to do everything in its corrupt power to not let this happen.   

The whole reason we have a Champions League today was UEFA's response to when this Super League idea first came up in the 90's when the heads of the most powerful teams in Europe forced UEFA's hand.

Yeah - sorry.  I don't feel bad for billionaire owners who will lose millions of dollars.  Not even a bit.  Liverpool losing the title would just be icing on the cake.

And, I think the PL owners should be forced to pony up a fund to save clubs at lower levels - and they absolutely should be paying game-day staffs instead of looking after their own millions.  (And, with the plan being put forward - its not even about jobs for stadium staff because the plan is to play behind closed doors - so the owners get theirs, and the staff get the shaft.

With all the people losing jobs and life savings - I don't give a rat's ### about how the money is going to get tight in world soccer - and soccer will, like virtually every other business in the world - have to take a big re-set. 

This is all about money - and ultimately its the consumer that has to foot the bill.  Those in England who pay for the Sky and/or BT subscriptions - so that those companies can fork it over to the clubs.  This time - putting that burden on the people who are least able to afford it borders on unconscionable greed.

I don't disagree with you.

The owners should take responsibility for their employees, to some extent, but will they really?  I am going to wager that most made money prior to entering the world of sport by being greedy and unconscionable bastards. For clubs that are currently losing money, what happens if their billionaire benefactors walk away? I don't think that most owners are actually printing money owning a club. How many can say that? 5? 10? I don't feel sorry for those that don't, but what happens when the losses become too unpalatable?

Of course it's about money, and yes the consumer will have to pay it, but can they going forward? I don't think so. If I were to lose my job, one of the first things I would cut is cable bill, sports packages, season tickets, buying jerseys etc etc.

The big clubs will survive of course, but what about the smaller ones? Clubs like Everton, Bournemouth etc...

As if the rumor mill isn't bad enough, no games to play/watch/report on makes it so much worse. (today's date not being overlooked as this has been ongoing for days now)
