Bundesliga end of season update.

Werder Bremen will play FC Heidenheim for the chance to stay in BL1.  They play at Bremen on 7/2 and in Heidenheim on 7/6.
Bremen is an original member of BL1 from 1964, and have only been down once in 1981.  So 55 of the last 56 seasons in BL1.  Champions in '65, '88, '93 and '04.
Heidenheim have been in BL2 6 seasons, having been promoted from BL3 in 2014.

FC Nürnberg are in the play-off game to try and stay in BL2, their BL3 opponent hasn't been decided yet.  Nürnberg were just relegated to BL2 last season.

Bayern München and Bayer Leverkusen play in the DFB Pokal final this Saturday (7/4) at 2pm on ESPN2.

And in other news, Arjen Robben has come out of retirement to play at Groningen next season. His original club.
Update:
Werder Bremen v Heidenheim was a scoreless first leg.
The second leg saw Hedeinheim commit an Own Goal in the 3rd minute, then equalize in the 85th.  Bremen went back ahead at 90+4 and Heidenheim equalized at 90+7.
Bremen advanced on away goals and stays in BL1.

Ingolstadt is the playoff team from BL3
Nürnberg beat Ingolstadt 2-0 today and the 2nd leg is on the 11th.

Bayern beat Leverkusen 4-2 to take the DFB Pokal.

Also, Bayern's Reserve team won BL3 but cannot be promoted to BL2.  (I think someone already mentioned this)

Exactly. No way that gets upheld...hopefully didn't affect the outcome of the game.
I'd like to see both the player rolling around looking for a BS card AND the ref that awarded it get a 3-4 game suspension for that.  Until they start making that BS hurt both financially and in the table, it'll never stop.

CBS Sports is scheduled to announce tomorrow that the broacaster has acquired the English Language rights to the culmination of the 19/20 CL and Europa League.  Looks like they will also get the 20/21 competitions after winning the rights to 21/22 season.

And of course starting with the 20/21 season, it will be on CBS' streaming service All Access. No word yet on where the current season will air and there is a chance some games over the next few seasons may be on regular channels.

I miss the days when you could watch all the games live on NBCSN and its assorted channels... Then NBCSNGold came along. and ESPN+ and B/R Live and now CBS NO-ACCESS

Being able to buy by the match on B/R Live was pretty cool.

Not sure cool was the right word, but it was a nice feature.

CBS looks like $6/mo, so maybe buy just the months games are on?

And although I am streaming, they are missing out on a lot of people.  My Mom watches but she is cable based.  No streaming so she misses out on games.

Posted this elsewhere, but the Ivies officially cancelled all fall sports, including soccer. Got an email from the coach...they're hoping it gets rescheduled in the spring, but not looking good.

The upside to this is that B/R sucked and their All Access streaming service is just about as expensive as the full B/R package.

Also, the B/R app was just terrible.

True.  As mentioned it was nice to be able to buy a game if you wanted too.

$6/mo isn't bad and is cancelable in months there are no games.

I'd love for United to advance and get some European experience for some of the young guys.  Facing a  Roma/Sevilla and then Inter would be a huge confidence boost heading in to next season if they can advance and play well.

I think United is in position for a top 4 finish and a trophy, maybe 2.  In the grand scheme of Manchester United, this season is somwhat of a failure since top 4 anf FA Cup/Europa Trophies arent the primary goal.  But in the context of the last 6 seasons?  This last 6 months have been a joy, and the fact that they are in position for 2 trophies and top 4 is amazing AND gives hope of a real challenge next year.  A good transfer window and continue to build gives hope.

It seems a lifetime ago that SAF was there and that's not just because of Covid.  Since the restart this is the first string of games I can remember where I was optimistic that they were heading in the right direction.  Maybe LvG had a stretch where I had false hope.  Hopefully they can finish the season strong and build from there.  There's still some dead weight to get rid of and some more bodies are needed but man, if Greenwood keep progressing then you have to feel good about goals at least.  Which has been a problem off and on for years now.

martial, rashford and greenwood provide an enticing attack. fernandes, pogba, mctimmy behind them- pretty nice too.

eta- and lingard (sung to "and peggy")

:goodposting:

I actually feel like they are going to score (THEY ALWAYS SCORE) and even when they give up a goal there is a good chance they will get it back.  Their top 11 can run with anyone, its the depth and abilty to rotate players and not lose anything that needs work.

Its amazing how much better the team is without Lingard or Pereira.  And with Greenwood providing balance across the field.

And Ole is not doing anything "Special".  Special constantly go back to Fellaini and Lingard.

I would be getting a tasty NIT quarterfinal with Wolves versus either of those two clubs.

Wolves looked great yesterday against Everton (who looked dreadful).  I like how they play - would love to watch them against Roma/Sevilla.

Btw, since your boys are safe - do you mind if they let United take the points today?

Soccer should do penalty shots like the NHL does breakaways. They need to do away with the penalty area. Tired of seeing players dive in the box and get a penalty shot. If they aren't unimpeded to the goalie, no penalty shot
