:wall:  Yeah lets make sure United continue to have no depth for rotation and no game changers on the bench....

And no way does United pay $150M for a 27 year old who will miss 1-2 months every season when they can spend $100M for a 20 year old Haaland.
Is that really his asking price?  Seems very low.

Well, I would take Haaland too if given the choice.  Also, maybe Sancho to backfill for Pogba.  I know we don’t agree but I’m personally fine with getting rid of Pogba (with reasonable replacement).

And to follow up on this thought.  I prefer we get a winger and leave Bruno to manage the mid attacking third - something like:

      Cavani            Rashford

Sancho.       Bruno.          Greenwood

        <somebody here to play DM>

Thats what they were talking about on the radio this morning.  Seems low to me too.

I am more of the opinion that he needs to s&^t or get off the pot.  Commit to United and tell his agent to stop causing issues or leave.  But this will he wont he works for sitcoms but not for the team.

To me a player of his pay should undeniably make the side better match in and out - like Bruno does.  I can't make that argument for Pogba.  I can for Kane, Bruno, De Bruyne, etc.

I agree overall.  But I do think Pogba makes players around him better.  My complaint is his consistency from game to game (and sometimes moment to moment)

I was just looking at something which is pretty amazing to me.

Manchester City has won the league this year. They also lead all teams in scoring with 76 goals. Next highest is ManU with 70 then Leicester with 65.

Despite this, City only has 2 players in the top 20 goal scorers.

-- Gundogan, a MF, who is tied for 10th with 12 goals.

-- Sterling, tied for 17th with 10 goals.

Similarly, they only have 2 players in the top 20 of assists -- KDB (2nd) and Sterling (t 17th).

If I’m a Leicester fan I think I’d take the FA Cup over top 4 solely because they had never won one and they really aren’t ready to compete for CL title.

United with 71, and 3 guys in the top 20

Bruno 18, Rashford 11, Cavani 10

Here's the difference: City also lead with 32 goals against.  United is 7th with 43ga.

Wow, we could have a goal difference break the top 4...

City 1st, United 2nd

Chelsea 67, +23
Leicester 66, +20
Liverpool 63, +21

If they all win out, Chelsea is at 70 and 3rd place.  Leicester and Liverpool at 69, tied for 4th.  Leicester has to win its last game by 2 more goals then Liverpool wins its last 2.... and LCFC plays Tottenham.

Since Liverpool has to win both last games assuming LC beat Tottenham, that will put them +3 GD vs Leicester. So LC has to beat Tottenham by at least 3 goals. And that's assuming Liverpool only win by 1 in each of the next 2.

If LC lose by 1 goal, then Liverpool has to lose one of the next 2 by 3+goals.

Good time for a Vardy Party.

I’ve got a TV set up in my garage. Gonna have a few guys over on Sunday for some footy and day drinking.

That's amazing. Pep is the man. People love to hate City and Guardiola, but they play the most beautiful football and it isn't even close, imo.

Are we just going to hope this WC every two years trial balloon that they're apparently voting on Friday goes away without discussing it?  I seems like its either the best thing ever or a total ####show with no real in between.

On the great side, I think you could essentially have a WC every year with the summer before being qualifying (i.e essentially clean out the international dates during the year) which has the knock on effect of more CL matches.  Maybe it works from a hosting perspective with 48 teams if you just rotate it between continents on some basis (I mean FIFA would have to love having matches in the US and China once every 10 years).

On the ####show side, that scenario essentially forces every league to go to an August to May calendar which isn't ideal for MLS (or maybe it is, I don't know where "we" currently stand on that).  I'm sure there are a ton of other repercussions I haven't thought through.

I do think FIFA will push it through.  Too much money for the minnows in Africa and Asia to pass up.  It'll be interesting to see what UEFA does in response.

Address?  Are we all invited?

You can't deny what he's accomplished over his career. His teams have always been fun to watch. And I say fun through gritted teeth with what the noisy neighbors have done over the last several years.

How important do you think lifting the CL trophy with City is for his legacy?  People knock him for not winning it without Messi...

I hate it.  Part of the draw of the WC to me is the scarcity and the qualifying.  Moving it to every two years destroys that as well as other competitions like the Euros and Copa America. Its bad enough the Gold Cup is every 2 years (needs to move to every 4).

I hope it goes away.

I may have misunderstood what I read but they are not voting this week to approve or disapprove an every 2 year WC.

I think the vote this week is to approve a feasibility study be started on whether an every two year WC is valid.

How about we have a World Cup every 2 years, but with no qualification.  We could select 40 "Super Countries" who are permanent members admitted based on historical significance (bribes), with 8 ad hoc nations who get admitted based on rolling performance criteria (bribes).

I just assumed this is what the "feasibility study" would recommend

Holy crap NYCFC fans!

This went from a rumor to done almost instantly.  This could be an amazing signing.  It is a high price tag at the rumored $12m for an 18 year old but many considered him the best player on the Brazilian U17 National team.

18 is pretty young to be thrown into NYC too...

Hope it works out- I know nothing about the kid, but now am interested. I remember seeing Neymar and Santos inaugurate RB Arena..

So there's a team playing in the Copa Libertadores tonight from Bolivia called Always Ready.

Not sure how I've survived this long not knowing that. Like a big empty void has been filled.

Nothing rivals the WC for me but the Euros come darn close.  It would be ridiculous to eliminate that to have the WC every 2 years.

The latest bad idea from FIFA

Bad for the US IMHO. MLS has to deal with NFL/College Football in Late Aug/early Sept till Dec/Jan. Oct/Nov NBA and NHL start. Right now when MLS starts they are competing with Hockey/Basketball and Baseball with March Madness at the start. But then only have Baseball during games. Also it messes up MLS FOX deal with College and NFL. MLS is in a no win scenario

With Juventus Win in the Coppa Italia today and Chiesa scoring the winner GIGI Buffon has won a trophy in every decade since the 90s. He's also won a Coppa Italia at Parma with Chiesa's Father in the 90s and now with Juventus in 2021 with the son. Who can say they won a trophy with a father and son almost 25 yrs apart from one another?

One of the draws for me, in all of the bigger tournaments, is the qualifying process.
The "World Cup" is not the entire tournament, it's the World Cup Finals.

The World Cup qualifying started in April of 2019, and there have been 262 matches to date.
211 countries slugging it out for 31 slots.

Well ####, now I have to buy one of their jerseys. I mean it’s only natural that I be a fan of them, semper paratus and all...

Always Ready got crushed by some Venezuelan squad last night, 7-2.  Bolivian soccer really dominated of late by two teams, Bolivar and The Strongest.  Best part of Bolivian soccer is the range of altitudes of some of these games.

Best story of last night though was River Plate.  They were decimated by covid, 20 guys out including all of their GK's.  They petitioned to bring on two gk's from their youth side, but were denied, so they had to play a 35 year old mf'er in goal.  They ended up winning 2-1.

And wtf is this Premier League haphazardly announcing their HOF'ers?  So stupid.  Everyone knows these first round of inductees were sure fire hof'ers.  Why not announce them all at once ffs.

Squads are rolling in for Euro's and all I can say is France is sick with talent, and this is the weakest German side I can remember.  Ever.

Yeah, Benzema is in France side, but really that position is the weak link for the squad.  If I could post the graphic, I saw the France second squad (guys not selected) and they honestly would reach knock out rounds.

"Big" news for Germany is Reus not in the side (ruled himself out).  But honestly, even with him, they would be third best in that group.

So Mbappe, Griezeman, Benzema...not to mention Coman, Giroud, Dembele... A weak link.

Sarge, Dike, Sieb...Jozy, Zardes, Giocch

Well, I was speaking of the striker position solely which would be Benzema, Giroud and maybe Ben Yedder?  I don't really see M'Bappe, Dembele, Coman or Griezeman as 9's.

Really think you're going to also see Pogba run riot in the Euro's, like he did in WC. With Kante out there with him, he'll have a ton of freedom.

Always Ready won the Bolivian league last season.  Runner up was my long time favorite The Strongest. Imagine the scenes when these rivals face off in the Division Professional. Both clubs now sit third in their Copa Libertadores groups.  Third place teams don’t advance in the Libertadores, but get auto entry into the Copa Sudamerica. Traditional Bolivian powerhouse Jorge Wilstermann (named after a famous Bolivian aviator), fell to fifth last season, missing out on the Libertadores.

Looks like Covid has not hurt MLS valuations much at all, which is suprising seeing how many teams around the world are struggling.

Houston is the second MLS team this month to be sold for $400m

To put this in some perspective Forbes has West Ham worth $508 million. This is for a big-market, but relatively poorly run club that doesn't own the stadium (though I'm sure Segal is looking to do some things).

The French team is stacked for sure.  I think they are weakest in goal though.  Might not matter if their central midfield can boss the field and the wings can pin back the opposition.

I think the big news is Löw brought Müller back.
