The biggest guy punch was Concacaf not giving their approval to Yankee stadium.  Think of all the crap places Concacaf allows games to be played :(
I wonder if it has to do with minimum field dimensions. a little surprising RB stadium couldn't be used. seems just a little closer than LA.

Good result for Nigeria today. Iheanacho had the only goal of today's three games but it was a nice one at least.  The bionically named Moses Simon looked dangerous all day on the left wing and assisted on the goal. Other than that, the Super Eagles were customarily wasteful on the attack.

Egypt was terrible in the first half but better in the second.  Nigeria did a good job of bottling up Salah and the Pharaohs gave him poor service.

Nice result for Sierra Leone vs. Algeria

was booked.  don't know for what.

ok... so RB is being renovated. Yankee stadium was deemed unacceptable by concacaf. NYC is playing the Gals to open the season a week after this game, so they decided to settle in to LA instead.

and fwiw, the team they're playing's home stadium was also deemed unacceptable, so they're playing their home game in San Jose instead of their home city. (eta- San Jose, CR not CA)

I'm in rare all-afternoon meetings today... with lots of great soccer on at the same time.

can Barca look remotely like a legit team again in the classico with RM? (they looked like boys against men the last time I saw them play this tie). I have a sneaky feeling Spurs are going to muster some goals today in the crappydoo cup vs Chels. My Inter vs my Snacks.

All of them on streaming services, so I can't DVR record them.

and will CP, Swag and/or Dest play today?

CP and Swag both continue to get excellent minutes so some time off may be in the cards today.

Dest on the other hand has not played much, if at all, since his injury.
it's crazy. there are SO many US players playing today. I completely glossed over Sarge and Busio/Tessman. Let alone Prefok.

[Richard Jolly] Chelsea have reached cup finals in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 & 2022.

This would be another nice signing by TFC

========

[Singh on Twitter] Sources: Toronto FC have reached a deal that will see Yeferson Soteldo depart the club after just 9 months. In addition, can confirm TFC will be acquiring Mexican international CB Carlos Salcedo from Liga MX’s Tigres. I’ll add, don’t be surprised if those two moves are related

======

Charlotte FC hasn’t played a single Major League Soccer match, but the club is set on making a splash when it finally does. By its second game in existence, the franchise intends to break a league record by hosting a crowd of more than 74,000 fans at Bank of America Stadium. The turnout would top the current attendance record of 73,019 fans set by Atlanta United for a 2018 playoff match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Soteldo is that tiny dude, right? I thought he was supposed to be a solid player... didn't work out?

Arsenal doing Arsenal shenanigans....

They have requested to postpone the NLD on Sunday due to Covid, injuries, suspension, and AFCON.  (Arsenal currently has 1 player with Covid), and just loaned out two players this week.

I hope the request is turned down - though it would probably benefit Spurs to put it off - given the injury crunch they are facing (Son, Dier, Reguilon, and Romero).

Pretty funny given all the #### they gave Liverpool.

Ghana's Benjamin Tetteh entered the game as a 90th minute substitute and left with a red card after punching someone after the final whistle of their 1-1 draw vs. Gabon.

The Black Stars only have one point from their first two group games but should still go through with a win over CAF minnows Comoros.

Reportedly cancelled.

I believe they have the most expensive tickets in the league already. They're going to open the upper bowl and try to flood the market to get the record for the opener, but I'm not very optimistic this is a great formula unless they start out really hot.

On that note, they just sold one of their first signings to Middlesbrough for up to $6 million. Hopefully they have a plan to complete this roster.

herculez gomez

@herculezg

In 2005 I started playing a lot for LA. After one of our home games fans would gather outside the player exit for pictures/autographs

That’s when I first met Kei Kamara. He worked game day events at The Home Depot Center doing cleanup etc

He was doing that part time while playing at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Every single time I saw him he would tell me how his dream was to be where I was, playing professional Futbol.

One day he said his team, Orange county Blue Star (If I recall correctly) was playing vs the Galaxy reserves the next morning. I told him I’d check it out.

To my surprise this lanky kid playing up top was beasting every single one of our defenders. It was nuts. Total domination. You could see he was special.

All I could tell him after (while laughing) was that he’d not only be here, but would kill it. Being where I was was selling him short.

That kid is one of only 10 players to reach 100 league goals, and he even went abroad for a bit. It truly is amazing.

Did it his way, fought for every single cent, and made a life for himself and his family. Don’t know if he remembers our interactions, but I sure do.

And he’s still playing today, at 37

wow.

I don't hear about men doing this kind of stuff (becoming a doctor or other professional), but it must. I know Jozy got his bachelors recently... not quite the same, but better than nothing.

When he wins, Spurs will be the first team to successfully defend a Puskas Award :thumbup:

Finally, something to add to the trophy case!

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial

The winner of the #Puskas Award goes to... @ErikLamela!

back-to-back Puskas Awards...You'll never sing that!
