Any fun bets today? Haaland to score in both 1h and 2h is +700, eyeballing that one. I had Iga in straight sets with Man City in 90 but that just died

Sometimes you think the sport has come a long way and then you see something like this......I mean how out of touch do you have to be to not know even the tiniest amount about a global super star like Becks?

Could he have been joking? The "with an accent" thing seemed kind of like a wink maybe. I dunno, trying to find something for the guy here.
you are a kinder man than I am :)

The topic (Messi should speak English) was pretty serious and a bit inflammatory in this day and age, so I personally don't think he was joking about Becks (it would not have fit the tone of the conversation) but who knows.

The reporter is of course saying he was kidding today after being roasted around the world.

The new format for Champions League was released today. The group stage as we know it is gone. The main competition will now consist of a single group of 36 teams. Each team plays 8 games (no idea who plays whom if it is a single group). Here is a graphic with more info

Through many many years and even decades everyone has learned that the near perfect format is 8 groups of 4 with top 2 advancing to knockout rounds.

So of course both UEFA and FIFA screw this up.

Although at least FIFA moved their egregious error to a more minor error after so many people bashed the original WC2026 format. Maybe there will be enough out cry that UEFA may rethink things as well (but I doubt it).

It's fine. Retaining a group stage format, created way back when only when logistical reasons were still a thing, as opposed to switching to a Swiss format which is far better for ordering a large field with nowhere near the time to do all play all while also removing the possibilities of groups of death, is exactly what should be done and ought to be done for WC/Euros qualifiers

The graphic states that this will give UEFA a 50% increase in games. I can't help but think the change is driven more by money than by competition, but I will be happy to be wrong.

I kind of like the format in Football Manager 23. I don't know enough to know whether it truly evens it out for everyone, but it generally doesn't feel like ever being drawn in a group of death. There are enough games with teams better, equivalent to, and worse than me to feel that I have a chance to advance if I get the results I should get.

More games will result in more money, sure, but a chunk of it will filter down to the clubs, and it'll allow for a huge proportion of the last couple of games to actually have meaning, rather than the status quo of "City have drawn Feyenoord, Slavia Prague and Celtic lol" where they can make nine changes to save players for Wolves on the Sunday in the first group game

NE played Miami at home tonight and drew a big number(for NE) of 36,235. Is the Messi factor already in play? Seems odd especially when the Revs almost never draw this much before July.

I'm not worthy!!

Claudio Ranieri did it again. Here’s the 71 years old coach crying on the pitch as he celebrates with the squad after getting Cagliari back to Serie A. Ranieri, appointed December 23 with Cagliari 14th in Italian second division… now back to Serie A with 94th min winner goal!!!!

Looks like Messi's camp did some of the heavy lifting to get the pieces in place. Hopefully they can get the deal finalized. Moving games to Hard Rock makes perfect sense.

It still feels so weird for a player to announce something this massive with out a contract in place.....but what ever works I guess

Latest on Lionel Messi signing:

-MLS, Inter Miami blindsided by Messi’s announcement
-Deal could be finalized this week
-Messi’s camp approached Apple
-Adidas component separate from MLS contract
-Inter Miami, Hard Rock Stadium in discussions to play some games there

I had not considered the below until I saw someone mention it online.

What if the announcement was just a clever negotiating tactic? By that I mean how does MLS say no to what ever last details that Messi requests?

I respectfully request that Messi ask for Brad Guzan to be murdered - or retire, whichever he chooses.

Premier League fixtures out on Thursday morning
Been counting down the days. Planning an England trip during next season, need the fixture list to make sure there are games the week we will be there. Hoping to go to Old Trafford and Emirates.
I mean if you have one bucket list place to go to, don't let me talk you out of it, but I've always found that trying to plan around getting two high value destinations is potentially tricky when there's lots of viable alternatives, especially for the second game. I know for my first trip to the States I planned where I would be to maximise the chances of seeing a game at Fenway (which I got), but beyond that, what will be will be

Oh I hear you. It's for my 50th so Old Trafford is the priority. Trying to plan around a school vacation as well to minimize how much school my kid misses.

You could consider other sites up north like Liverpool and Newcastle...
I thought about Newcastle, but it may be a bit to far north to fit in. No interest in watching Everton play.

"Liverpool has much to offer when it comes to nightlife. From pubs and clubs, to the great Asian pastime of karaoke!" - Keeley Jones

Glasgow is a short train ride away from Newcastle if you wanted to visit St. James and then head over there for a couple days.

The Athletic breaks down why Messi is still not signed and why neither MLS nor Inter Miami can do any real promotion of him yet

Some tidbits:

* his start date is unknown. Apple is pushing hard for him to be involved in the all star game in some fashion. The summer transfer window is July 5th so he can start any time after that. He is currently with Argie in China on international duty and then I assume he will want a break before joining Inter.

* Inter Miami is rethinking all travel plans including how they fly and where they stay (this does not seem to be coming from Messi, I think Inter understands you can't just walk Messi through an airport like normal players)

* The article pushes the idea that there is nothing that can't be solved but the lack of a signed contract has prevented both the league and Inter from doing any sort of promotion.

here we go again. We’re the #2 seed this year, won 5-0, 7-0, 4-2 to get back to the championship game. We play Friday, the team we beat in the semis last year. Should be a crazy game. :banned:

Didn't work out this time.

Lost 1-2 in a very tight game. We were lucky to get some of these kids all on one team together. Not all the time a little 800 person school gets three kids that will go on to play D1 soccer in the same team. Our senior will play at UC Davis next year, and the other two are only sophomores ( :lmao: ), but they will 100% play at the next level. It's been a fun end to my son's high school footy career.
UPDATE-

The one player is in his third year at UC Davis. One of the sophomores from this team just signed with the Fuego.

the most promising of the three has had two torn ACLs now. Need to catch up with his coach and see what's in his future, but he's had it tough

Fans of other EPL teams better hope City stays hungover and over confident to start the season because if they come in focused, 19-21 points looks very possible in just their first 7 games.

Got tickets to United v Fulham in February 2024!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh that just rocks!!!! Congrats!

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price?
£199 each. Matchday ticket with access to the museum postgame. Sir Alex Stand section N3408 (If you wanted to look it up).
Was hoping to pay a little less than that but since we wanted to hit the museum anyway, figured what the heck.

PLUS I'M GOING TO SEE UNITED AT OLD TRAFFORD SO IT'S MONEY WELL SPENT!

A few rows down was £225 with pregame access to the museum.

Graelish may still be hungover....

Oh so worth it!!

Think of how much money people waste on watching the Man United reserves jog in a 100 degree heat in a meaningless friendly when they come to the US in the summer. You are getting real value and a life time memory.

Wave a flag at Jedi and Ream too at the end :)

Oh we are doing that to vs WREXHAM!!! lol

And this will totally be worth it.

Ream, Jedi and preseason Pirlo (former United player A Pereira)
