For those who may not be familiar with the "magic number", it means any combination of Steelers wins and Browns losses totalling that number gives the Steelers the division crown (Ravens and Bengals are both eliminated.)

So, let's talk seeding, home field, possible opponents, what we need to do better, what needs to continue, etc.. in this thread.

If the playoffs were to begin next week, Cleveland would be coming to Pittsburgh for round 3 in the wildcard round.

Early line on Pitt/NE is NE -16. Cowher was at his best in these types of games (underdog), Tomlin has an opportunity to put himself on the map this week with a good showing.

Hartings back from retirement, Troy to play like he did two years ago and Davenport to run like he did in Green Bay.
I think the Steelers are going to go line-heavy in the early rounds of this year's draft - OL first, then DL.
Weren't we all thinking the same thing last year? I hope they haven't waited too long.
Last year, they really needed to draft some players that could transition from the 3-4 to the 4-3. I think that trend will continue this year, but with some serious OL talent mixed in.

Obviously I think the Pats will win, but I think the days of routine 25pt blowouts are gone, only to show their face perhaps against Miami and the Jets. Sixteen is a crazy line against that Steelers team.

BUMP to keep this on the firing line, but NE still has a tough game to play tonite in Baltimore, so I dont want to get heated on next week's matchup too soon. But since you guys are talking about changes/picks to your team looking to next season, the one change I see definitely happening that will only help your team is not a change ON the field, but the change TO it. There's been alot made of how bad that field has played lately with all of the extra HS and college games, so bad that its almost a cinch that a change will be made. And improving that field will improve how the team on both sides of the ball plays, imo. Take it from a NE fan who's home field was pretty much the worst in the league until the field turf was installed at Gillette in-season last year, and also someone who's historically HATED artificial turf, the change will be good. Roethslisberger is becoming an elite QB, and that O deserves the chance to play football on a field worthy of their skill. The matchup nextweek will hopefully be the best of the year. And that would be high expectation considering some of the great games we've seen so far this year. But first, my boys need to get past your hated rival Ravens. So do the right thing, Steelers fans. Root against the Ravens tonite, if not for the Patriots, which I of course wouldnt expect, and pull for that rare opportunity to knock off a 12-0 team.

I definitely will be rooting for New England tonight. I also think Field Turf is a possibility after the season.

I don't feel real confident about the Steelers as much as I have in years past heading toward the playoffs. OL play has been pretty bad. We have no Bettis type back and while I love FWP, he needs some holes to be effective and they are not there this yr. Pass blocking while much improved against the Bengals last night, as been just as dysmal.
