Lol. Bitter? This is going to be awful. The 2 most insufferable fan bases in football, and we're never going to hear the end of it from the winner. Think I'll plan a bender in a couple weekends just to miss out on all of it.

Are you some kind of robot? Here's what's going to happen: both teams score at least 24 points apiece. Winner: TBD!
He's selling something. Smells like ####Are you some kind of robot?
Fully healthy, the Eagles had the best roster in football this year and it wasn't really that close. Both teams fully healthy, I think there's a significant gap in talent & intangibles in the Pats' favor. This game could get ugly.
I generally root NFC & it's no different in this Super Bowl. That said, at this point, I'm just hoping for an enjoyable game.
I'm afraid this could be a blowout if Philly has trouble on offense. They're likely going to have to catch some breaks to keep it close.
Other than the enormous difference at QB, where are the Patriots significantly better? Both teams fully healthy, I think there's a significant gap in talent & intangibles in the Pats' favor. This game could get ugly.

Not with Nick Foles at the helm.Eagles win by minimum of 10. Passing of the torch type of game here.
He's a Cowboys fan who insists that Prescott is better than Wentz. Disregard anything he says about football. And disregard it twice if it's about the eagles.Other than the enormous difference at QB, where are the Patriots significantly better?
Bortles looked like Joe Montana against the Pats for a little under three quarters. Foles looked pretty damn good against the #1 defense in football yesterday. Not with Nick Foles at the helm.
Wentz...maybe.
He did look good yesterday. MINN's defense also didn't look nearly as good as they have been all season. Let's see if Foles can play as good in back to back games against Belichick. I'm not as confident he can. There is a reason he is a back up.Bortles looked like Joe Montana against the Pats for a little under three quarters. Fellow alma mater?Just got an invite to a corporate box. The last time I accepted an invite from this guy I met Adriana Lima. Advertising Execs generally have a pretty interesting mixture of folks in their boxes, much better than Law firms.
Defenses who have been the top in the league don't just suddenly 'not look nearly as good'. This was the same defense. #1 in the league. They weren't ravaged by injury. The Eagles game plan and Nick Foles' execution and decision making shredded them apart. Not saying they are going to go rack up 38 against the Patriots. They have the best coaching staff in football and always come up with a great game plan.He did look good yesterday. MINN's defense also didn't look nearly as good as they have been all season. His gift is taking away a team's best weapon. Who exactly is that on the Birds?Belichick with two weeks to prepare with no weather possibly factoring in? Lay the points.

No. A guy from St. Thomas that I met while I was up in the Twin Cities. For a brief time we each were dating one of a pair of room mates from St. Kates. We each dumped those marriage monkeys pretty fast, but we remained friends with each other.Fellow alma mater?
I would say if Pats can't target a Receiver or RB to take away, it will naturally fall back to the QB orchestrating it all. They'll probably commit to the pass imo, lot of blitzing, put it on the backup QB in the biggest game of his life. I think the the Philly RBs could play a big role in the game. His gift is taking away a team's best weapon. Who exactly is that on the Birds?
This Eagles defense is beastly up the middle-they are going to drop Brady early and often. Oh and that Nick Foles guy just hung 38 on the leagues best defense. 26 of 33 for 352 yards, 3 TDs, no ints and 141 passer rating. Kept hearing about how the Vikings 3rd down defense was one of the best ever. They got torched. Birds exorcise their 2004 demons and get retribution. They win this one by double digits.
I'd say the only Eagle who is a top 1 or 2 at his position is Lane Johnson. So I guess Belichick can try to take him away. His gift is taking away a team's best weapon. Who exactly is that on the Birds?

The great thing is, with Wentz' injury, Pederson was smart enough to watch film from Foles' epic 2013 season and incorporate the best of Chip Kelly's offense into the playbook. So Foles literally knows two separate offenses and adjustments are easily made. Definitely provides a unique challenge to Belichick and Co.I would say if Pats can't target a Receiver or RB to take away, it will naturally fall back to the QB orchestrating it all. It's nice seeing the optimism from Eagles fans. I think it's normal for opponents to underestimate New England.... so by all means, continue to do so.
Double digit Philly win? Sure! Of course! Why not! Pats aren't very good at football.![]()

Yeah, the poor Pats are so disrespected. No one ever thinks they're any good.Ertz is pretty good.I'd say the only Eagle who is a top 1 or 2 at his position is Lane Johnson. So I guess Belichick can try to take him away.![]()
True. Probably the third best TE in the league.Ertz is pretty good.
Ah...according to you, Foles is their best weapon. So, maybe Belichick takes him away. His gift is taking away a team's best weapon. Who exactly is that on the Birds?

It took him three quarters to finally outplay the legendary Blake Bortles yesterday. So there's a chance.Ah...according to you, Foles is their best weapon. So, maybe Belichick takes him away.![]()
I just hope Brady will be able to keep pace with that future HOFer, Foles.
This is good stuff.Since you asked . . .
Running the numbers:
PHI Offense 28.3 avg ppg + PHI Offense 6.7 adjusted ppg = 35 adjusted ppg on offense
NE Defense 18.3 avg ppg allowed + NE Defense -3.2 adjusted ppg = 15.1 adjusted ppg allowed
PHI projected score = 25
NE Offense 28.7 avg ppg + NE Offense +7.1 adjusted ppg = 35.8 adjusted ppg on offense
PHI Defense 17.3 avg ppg allowed + PHI Defense -3.9 adjusted ppg = 13.4 adjusted ppg on defense
NE projected score = 24.6
About as close as you can get and pretty much a coin toss. The only thing that is not accounted for is the Wentz / Foles factor as the majority of the Eagles offensive numbers were with Wentz at QB.
A couple other tidbits off the top in the TB12 era. NE is now 15-0 in playoff games when they DID NOT face their opponent during the regular season (they did not play PHI this year).
NE is 22-1 (.957) in the post season when they score at least 23 points. They are 5-8 (.385) in games when they score 22 or fewer points.
NE is 21-3 (.875) in the post season when they allow 23 or fewer points. They are 6-6 (.500) in games when they allow 24 or more points.
Can the Eagles hold the Patriots to 22 or fewer point? Can PHI score 24 points or more? Because that is the line in the sand where things REALLY tilt toward a NE victory.
Bortles played well vs. PITT, and played a very good first half yesterday. He's no Foles, mind you, but one big reason he didn't finish the way he started was NE's attack. Bortles and Foles are the same level of QB, IMO. Borderline backups. It took him three quarters to finally outplay the legendary Blake Bortles yesterday. So there's a chance.
I remember the Lombardi Packers. By Super Bowl II, if not Super Bowl I they were past their prime. Many of their stars had left, moved on. What they had left was moxy, their coach, their Q.B., and a few key defensive contributors, past their prime, probably, but smart. They had been through the wars. They won on smarts.Since you asked . . .

Fair points. I think they would be in the same tier. A big difference I see is that the Jags visibly starting choking on the pressure when the game got late. They played not-to-lose. Zero chance Pederson would do that. They relish being underdogs and play to win always (witness the field goal at the end of the first half yesterday). If the Eagles are fortunate enough to get a lead, they will play to increase that lead, not to hold onto it.Bortles played well vs. PITT, and played a very good first half yesterday. Read this thread. Read the AFC thread. This year is no different than years past.Yeah, the poor Pats are so disrespected. No one ever thinks they're any good.
Last 4 games played (which IMO is still tough to evaluate with no Wentz and a Week 17 game that didn't matter to PHI):This is good stuff.
Also, I find the more telling stats are those in the last 4-5 games or so. Gives you an idea how teams are currently playing. Some teams stunk in various facets of the game early on in the season.
You mean every teams' fans are trying to convince themselves that they have what it takes? Oh God forbid. There's a reason the Eagles absolutely destroyed the number one defense in the league yesterday, while the Pats needed last minute heroics to barely beat a team who was a #3 seed, and Vegas still has New England a touchdown favorite. Because everyone respects Brady and Belichick. So to even try to insinuate that no one respects them and they are always underestimated is pure fantasy.Read this thread. Read the AFC thread. Everyone "has the answer".... Everyone's going to "win by two scores"....![]()
Welcome back to the big game.
My point is that this offense doesn't run through one stud WR or 25 carry RB. Everyone gets enough looks each game to make it difficult to hone in on one player to take away. And you can mock Nick Foles all you want. He is a backup. I stand by my point that he carved up a defense that is substantially better than what the he'll be facing in two weeks. Dougs play design is quite amazing IMHO. Vikings looked completely lost last night.Ah...according to you, Foles is their best weapon. So, maybe Belichick takes him away.![]()
I just hope Brady will be able to keep pace with that future HOFer, Foles.
Around week 12, not only did I feel they'd get there, I was confident that they were the best team in the NFL without a doubt. After the Wentz injury, combined with how the offense looked in weeks 16 & 17, I would have been shocked to hear they'd still make the Super Bowl and, yes, I would have been just happy that they got there. But now that Foles seems to have starters' confidence and everything is clicking, I'm sure that both the teams and its fans aren't going to be content unless they bring home the Lombardi. It's easy to think of Wentz coming back and feeling that a ring or two are guaranteed during his career, but all you have to do is remember back to Dan Marino, who went to the Super Bowl in his second year. Everyone thought he was destined to wear a handful of rings before it was all said and done, and he never got back to the big game again.Always a close game with NE in the SB.
Pats seem to start these games conservatively and then do "just enough" to win.
In the end, Eagles are just happy to get there and the Patriots feel they belong there.
I love that you're discrediting my stance, while saying the exact type of things that I'm referring to in my postYou mean every teams' fans are trying to convince themselves that they have what it takes? I'm not saying the exact same thing. I'm countering your nonsense about teams underestimating New England. Everyone knows what they are. At this point, there are ZERO fans or teams who think they are over-rated. I just think you hate being huge favorites in the game. You need an angle.I love that you're discrediting my stance, while saying the exact type of things that I'm referring to in my post![]()
I'm happy to see the optimism in Eagles fans. Reminds me of Falcons fans. And Seattle fans. Deja Vu.
During the game I did hear the announcers mentioning that the Eagles have 22 of 24 starters under contract for next year. I found that extraordinary. if one were looking for them to get back next year that would bode well for them. If one were looking for challengers one might point out Dallas could well have Elliot for the whole year, Green Bay could well have Rodgers for the whole year, and Minnesota could have Cook for the whole year while the Rams are young and still improving and the Seahawks seem unlikely to have quite so many injuries.. Of course the Eagles had challenges too, and with Wentz and Peters coming back they could be expected to be stronger as well, absent new injuries which are always a craps shoot.Around week 12, not only did I feel they'd get there, I was confident that they were the best team in the NFL without a doubt.
