I think the Patriots fans have decided to drop out of this fun thread (rightfully so)      :(
they have been in the SB what, 8 times since 2000. it's just another game for them at this point....

I'm not saying the exact same thing. I'm countering your nonsense about teams underestimating New England. Everyone knows what they are. At this point, there are ZERO fans or teams who think they are over-rated. I just think you hate being huge favorites in the game. You need an angle.
Actually....I really DO feel the Past are over-rated this year. They got lucky in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and have relied on a little more smoke and mirrors, a little more of other teams imploding this year. They still have Brady, and Brady with time carves anyone up, but the Eagles D-line isn't going to let him get comfortable.

I honestly feel like the Eagles match up better than just about any team in the NFL, and certainly better than any other AFC team, INCLUDING the Steelers and Jaguars. THis game should be, at worst, a pick'em.

TO be clear, saying the Pats are over-rated isn't saying they suck....it's saying that no way in hades are they 5 or 7 points better than this Philly team on a neutral field.

Not real sure the cheap hit card gets to be played on behalf of Gronk given that he is maybe THE poster child this year for cheap hits.  Still, I am with you, I hate any cheap hits.  Face up like a man, and when the play is ended, end things.  It doesn't make one a tough guy to ring up someone who is defenseless, it makes one a #####.

How does one tell when Gronk is whoozy or goofy, and when he is just being Gronk?  Anyhow, I hope he is alright.  His dastardly act against Buffalo aside he always struck me as a good natured guy.  Maybe I am mislead, but I just like him.
ONly problem is that that wasn't really a cheap hit. Church tried to lead with his shoulder and there was no intent to injure on that hit. It was (rightfully) called a penalty but cheap is just not accurate

Living in New York Giants country, it’s really odd seeing their fans so miserable this season. This game is the icing on the cake. It’s killing them to have to root for the Pats
Ya know its kinda funny but where I grew up in the media reach of philly before I actually moved to Philly, there were a fair number of giants fans. No doubt due to Parcell and LT's success. So far not one has come out on social media and said they'd root for the Eagles. I've pointed out to them that I rooted for the Giants both times against the Pats and fell personally aggrieved. I've never despised the Giants. They are like a brother that you don't really get along with that lives kinda close.

Anyway, I'm kinda bummed but it only adds to our "us against the world" attitude if more people than expected root against the underdog Eagles just because poeple hate our fan base. That really says something considering how many people not just hate the pats but are suffering from "patriot fatigue."

Forget where I read it but Tom Brady has a higher % of making the Super Bowl in his career than the career completion % of multiple HoF QBs.

And the percentage of seasons in which he has been accused of cheating is a higher percentage than the interception % of all HOF Q.B.'s.  Irrelevancies stated as statistics are stupid.

I’ve never heard of Brady being accused of cheating
Well you won't hear it from me.  The only thing I will say which is even remotely negative about Brady is that his natural modesty prevents him from walking around nekkid, so that  we can all bask in the glow of his magnificence.

Now Belichick on the other hand, if he bred with Kim Kardashian they could resurrect the race of hobbits, but the selfish ### refuses to hold his nose and get to work.  Dammit Belichick I want Hobbits!

Given that more than half this thread has been the rebuke of the preposterous football jones, this an interesting turn into the theatre of the bizarre...

I'm hoping our man on the scene, @cecilammey, can ask Belichick at a media event why it is he refuses to bred with Kim Kardashian to resurrect the race of Hobbits.  Its not like Belichick is going to answer whatever questions get posed, so why not have fun with the questions themselves.  Who knows, a question like that just might knock down his wall, if for only a moment.

Most wins ≠ Best Team H2H

Also they had Carson Wentz for most of those wins, now they have Nick Foles
You mean the guy who just dismantled the #1 defense in football?

They had the best record in the NFL.

They just beat the #2 seed 38-7 in the NFC Championship. Meanwhile, the Pats had to come from behind to beat Blake Bortles.

Probably best to stop while you're behind.

Sorry im not gonna overreact to one game.  Congrats to Nick for finally making a completion over 20 yards.  He tries that against the Pats and it's going for 6 the other way

Yeah, after tearing the #2 passing defense in football to shreds, he's probably shaking in his boots at the prospect of going against the 30th ranked passing defense.

Got some more expert analysis for us?

Name a worse team
1996 Steelers - won a 5 team division where the other 4 teams were under .500. Beat Mediocre Bills and Colts in playoffs to get to the Super Bowl

2008 Cardinals - Won an awful NFC West division at 9-7. All 3 other teams were dreck. Got to play at home in NFC championship because the 6th seeded Eagles, who had a slightly better record than the Cardinals and had beaten the Cardinals by 28 in the regular season, made it to the NFC championship.

2011 Giants - Won division with 9-7 record. Had to win last two games just to get into the playoffs. Gave up 400 points on defense and had a -6 point differential. Got hot at the right time and defense propelled them to victory over the Patriots.

Hmm.....that last sentence could be predictive.

Sorry none of them had a QB as bad as Nick Foles

Some people outside of Philadelphia may not realize that Foles was injured all during TC and the pre-season.  He had no snaps with the 1st team all season until Wentz went down.  He came into that game cold and brought them from behind against the Rams to win.  The offense at the time was designed for Wentz. Against a horrible Giants D, Foles looked great.  Then faced 2 tougher defenses and looked out of rhythm.  I also wonder if Pederson was keeping the offense pretty vanilla as they all but had the #1 seed locked up.  During the playoff bye week, Pederson changed the offense to Foles' strengths.  He was much better (not great) against the Falcons then looked fantastic against the #1 Vikings defense.  He's gaining confidence and getting comfortable with the players.  Certainly no guarantee he's good/great in the SB, but at lease understand why he may have had a couple of bad looking games.

How about we just focus on this year
It's a pretty damn small sample size then.  Very weak argument fore or against.

....all I know is the guy that threw for the team that won 38-7 completed some 20+ yard passes, would've had another one if Torrey Smith had not dropped the ball, and had over a 140 QBR.  If that guy shows up to the Super Bowl (I'm pretty confident he will) then I believe the Eagles will win.

I would say 95 Chargers were probably the worst that I can remember.  That Steelers loss still pains me because they were superior to the Chargers that year.

So here are the QB ratings for QB's when they played for Jeff Fisher with the Rams and when they played for everyone else:

  • Foles: Rams QB rating - 69.0, Everyone else - 93.36
  • Goff: Rams QB rating w/ Fisher - 63.6, Rams QB rating w/o Fisher - 100.5
  • Keenum: Rams QB rating - 79.5, Everyone else - 89.54
  • Bradford: Rams QB rating - 79.3, Everyone else - 94.16
People tend to remember those poor games Foles had with the Rams and are still judging him based on those games. I think it's fair to say that playing QB for the Rams under Fisher was like being in QB purgatory.

Also, not factored into Foles numbers above: 3 playoff games with a 116.4 QB rating.

How many did he have in the games before that?
Must suck to see Nick Foles in the Super Bowl when your QB is the highest paid player in the entire league and he's never even sniffed the NFC championship game.  :(

Maybe the Eagles would trade him to you Strafford and a first round pick.

Sorry I haven't had any expectations for the Lions since the Marinelli / Kitna Era.

It's made you an ugly bitter little man.  Hop upon the Philly train buddy. Best young QB in the game and quality cast of players. You'd finally see what it's like to follow a team that isn't a joke.

Looking back at the teams with blowout wins in the league championship games (I picked 21 or more points) . . .

The teams that secured the blowout have gone 7-12 in the Super Bowl. Teams that won by 30+ points went 2-6.

That's just a statistical quirk, as what happened in the past has bearing on the present and this SB will be decided on the field, not in the history books.

NO SIR!  It will be decided by what color jerseys they wear, like its always been!

Cracks in the facade as belichick lets part of his game plan slip during a press conference.

We're going to try to score and we're going to try to keep them from scoring.

Just further proof he will not be back next season.   He never would have slipped like this in the past.
