If my City was so bad at winning Championships there wasn’t even color video footage of their last title, I’d probably want to keep steering the Super Bowl conversation toward the music scene, too.

Interesting that in the mid-70's and 80's those teams all did well. But in the last 25 years, even with two good defensive games, teams only went 3-4 in the SB and gave up a ton more points.

Thanks exactly what I want to see.

Both are from Boston.

Franklin left Boston because it sucked..... per his memoirs - pp25-26

" Though I found myself birthed in the towne of Boston....its spirit never resonated within my young bones for tis women too manly looking.  By that in a curious nature.....the men of the berg were amongst the opposite....both effete in their manly spirit and very tender.  I found myself looking for berg both of a high intellectual spirit and capable of high times....I found it, in Philadelphia."

Nice bit of writing and yes the Boston 10 = a southern 6.  Where'd you find it because its not from his memoirs

If thunderlips made that up and created it himself he might deserve a double like for that
Pretty sure he did.  Thunderlips is showing this forum what trolling should really be.  Stupid fun that everyone can laugh at.  Kudos to you, good sir.

1996 Steelers - won a 5 team division where the other 4 teams were under .500. Beat Mediocre Bills and Colts in playoffs to get to the Super Bowl

2008 Cardinals - Won an awful NFC West division at 9-7. All 3 other teams were dreck. Got to play at home in NFC championship because the 6th seeded Eagles, who had a slightly better record than the Cardinals and had beaten the Cardinals by 28 in the regular season, made it to the NFC championship.

2011 Giants - Won division with 9-7 record. Had to win last two games just to get into the playoffs. Gave up 400 points on defense and had a -6 point differential. Got hot at the right time and defense propelled them to victory over the Patriots.

Hmm.....that last sentence could be predict.ive.
I will add the 2003 Panthers with Delhomme, the 2006 Bears with Grossman and the 2007 Giants with Manning as Super Bowl teams worse than the Eagles. Lambskins main point is the Eagles are terrible because of Nick Foles. Nick Foles regular season QB rating of 79.5 was better than Grossmans (73.9) and Mannings (73.9) during those SB seasons, and just slightly below Delhomme (80.6). BTW Foles QB rating in the playoff games leading up to the Superbowl of 122.1 is ranked 3rd among the 46 QB's starting in the Super Bowl since 1995, behind only 2005 Ben Roethlisberger and 2016 Matt Ryan.

The Eagles could easily loss the Super Bowl because, well......Bill Belicheck and Tom Brady. I am more concerned about Foles playing poorly in the Super Bowl because Bill Belicheck takes away things he is comfortable with rather than because he is innately a bad QB. He is not a bad QB if you look at his whole body of work.

What you described is pretty much the history of the recent NE revival. Their defense has been good enough to limit TD's, gives up a ton of yardage, and forces teams to FG goal attempts. In recent years, they have made mediocre QBs look like HOFers in stretches. But they have also have had teams make stupid mistakes (on the field, coaching, play calling, time management, penalties, you know the drill). A lot of the time you could look at the personnel between NE and their opponents and look at the stats and conclude NE should probably lose. And that analysis would likely have been pretty spot on. Yet they still won. If ever there were a column for INTANGIBLES, it's New England. And it should get a pretty heavy weight, because so much falls in that category that clearly that has made a difference in games over and over again.

Where this game may be different is the Eagles are an excellent red zone team. As has been said a million times, you can't settle for FG attempts against the Pats, and this game will be no different.
I can’t argue with what you are saying, but I think this is the game where it finally catches up to the Patriots. I mean how are they getting it done with guys like Ricky Jean Francois and the ghost of David Harris? Parts of the New England defense are the definition of smoke and mirrors.

Yes, intangibles play into New England’s favor, but can they continue to count on their opponents blatant stupidity? Just think how different a conversation Belichick’s and Brady’s legacy would be if their last two SB opponents coaches had simply made competent decisions when the games were on the line. If Seattle simply runs on the one yard line or if Atlanta doesn’t continue to throw when simply running down the clock + kicking a field goal gives them a SB victory. Can they continue to count on miracles the likes of which haven’t been seen since the Old Testament?

I do think the Patriots will be able to score against Phily, but in order for New England to win they are going to have to hope that Nick Foles goes back to being Nick Foles and the Patriots can win the turnover battle as the only time the Eagles lost this year is when they gave the ball up. Maybe Belichick can come up with another all time game plan (I don’t put it past him) that can hide their slow/below avg linebackers and the Patriots can pull it out due to the “intangibles” you mentioned, but as a lifelong Patriots fan I think it’s going to be a tough task...I hope I’m wrong.

Now, you have gone completely off the rails with this one, lips.  You dun lost ya mind.

Orr revolutionized the sport.  Bobby Clarke couldn't carry Orr's jock.

Yes, they have had some Inspector Clouseau moments where teams couldn't get out of their own way. I have indicated in multiple threads that the game is pretty much a coin flip and that the TB/BB combination probably gives NE a 5% advantage.

Some of the names and bodies on defense don't strike fear in the hearts of the opposition, but they won last year with an equally cast of no names, misfits, and castoffs. The only major difference was they had Hightower then but not this time around (which is significant). Way back in the day in the last SB vs. PHI, they had to play some guys that were picked up late including some guys off the street. Does anyone remember the likes of Hank Poteat? Dexter Reid? Keith Traylor?

NE has been good enough on defense for years. They haven't had a really good defense for years, certainly not one that you could rely on and feel good that all they needed was a stop and they would get it. But this is a team that dumped Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins . . . and got better.

Another potential outcome is maybe the Pats play better for the first 3 quarters of games so they don't have to be superhuman in the 4th. While there is always a chance their opponents don't make mistakes or dumb decisions, there is also a change NE has a better, more consistent effort for all 60 minutes.

Sure...

I thought Whitey Bulger WAS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than someone like Joey Merlino (who used to hand out turkeys at Thanksgiving to the poor families of the  city)......but then someone reminded me that Bulger was a rat.  Can't vote for a rat over a true "friend of ours".

Yeah definitely Marlino over bulger. Difference in philly is that the guys are the real deal and not looking to be tv shows. You don’t know all the names, but walk into some place to get some food in south philly and everyone there will know who is on top.

And listing Aerosmith as a highlight isn’t impressive either. We’d have to look through our entire catalogs to get comparisons.

Sam Adams tastes like piss too. Might be a push for this one

Cinderella was from Philly?  Never knew that.

But yuengling is waaaaaaaaay better than any Sam Adams brew.

This is what happens when you have 2 weeks between championship week and super bowl.     :loco:
Luckily for everyone else in this thread it might only last another day or so. I thought of a few things to start, but as I’ve gone on I can’t think of one thing Boston/NE has better then philly.

I’ve only been to Boston a few times and I will say that I’m so glad that I ended up landing a job in Philly ( my other job prospect was in Boston).  I like Philly a lot more.

You aren't trying hard enough.  I could do that all day:

Average annual snowfall:

Boston 43.7 >> Philadelphia 22.3

Percentage of eligible voters without registered party affiliation:

Boston 41% >> Philadelphia 11%

Percentage of population with a college degree:

Boston 43% >> Philadelphia 31%

Easily. Went to Boston for a weekend for Fenway and some fun, nothing but ######s and tough guys wanting to fight us all weekend.

True story. 15 or so years ago was dating a girl from Connecticut, at dinner one night she actually had the balls to say that they’re better than us up north in the New England states. I asked for the check, took her home and never talked to her again.

Reasons why I like Philly more:

1.  More affordable but still plenty of stuff to do

2.  Food is great and affordable

3.  Close to beaches

4.  Close to plenty of casinos

5.  Blue collared city just like the one I grew up in

6.  Easy drive to NYC, DC and Baltimore

7.  I don’t have to hear about the Boston sports teams 24/7

I heard a stat today that I think sums up what is so scary about New England: Since 2001 (i.e. with Brady and Belicheck) the Patriots are 15-0 in the playoffs against teams they didn't play in the regular season. That stat shows that Brady and Belicheck are good at attacking defenses and offenses in ways that the opposition hasn't had to face before and therefore the opposition isn't ready for it. I do think that Pederson is a very good coach, so we will see what he comes up with, and how well he is able to adjust his gameplan.

Let me continue;
