I'm so glad it came back to bite Belichick in the ###. Belichick gets way too much credit for being some sort of genius. His career is filled with terrible signings (Chad Johnson anyone) and dumber decisions. He got lucky that his 6th round draft pick ended up being one of the best ever. He's gotten a lot of mileage out of that. He's a great coach, but not nearly as great as Brady has made him look. I wonder if any players will have the balls to come out and say what an awful ego-move it was to keep Butler on the bench with the defense struggling the way they were.babydemon90 said:Oh, he knows.
If he didn't start because Belichek thought the matchup was a bad one - sure, I can see that. But once the defense is unable to do anything, you try him out, because it can't be worse. The only way he sees ZERO snaps is if Belichek made that decision before the game, and decided to stick with it. That isn't a "based on matchups" call. Something happened.

Someone may have already answered, but if not... this was the first NFL win where the opponent had more than 600 yards. Though in 2002 Atlanta gave up 645 to Pittsburgh and the game ended in a tie.Anarchy99 said:I don't know the answer, but I am guessing that there are not a lot of NFL games where a team gave up over 600 yards and still won the game. I am going to guess the answer is not very many.
QBs sometimes reinvent themselves (Kurt Warner, Rich Gannon, Steve Young, Drew Brees, etc.) after a change of scenery/coaching. It's kind of weird to me that some observers (not necessarily on this board) talk of Nick Foles as if he has been some huge liability.NIck Foles had one of the most impressive seasons in NFL history. I guess if YOU'RE a clown you wouldn't understand that.
If Ben was definitely planning to retire after next year, I would want the Steelers to trade for Foles (even if they had to give up a first). He's convinced me that with the proper coaching/scheme, he can be a pretty good QB. Those don't grow on trees.QBs sometimes reinvent themselves (Kurt Warner, Rich Gannon, Steve Young, Drew Brees, etc.) after a change of scenery/coaching. Foles may not have proven that he can carry around a dog-schmidt team on his back like Brady or Brees, but he certainly has proven more than once that he has legit NFL starter ability.
yes. He won't lose you games. If Ben was definitely planning to retire after next year, I would want the Steelers to trade for Foles (even if they had to give up a first). He's convinced me that with the proper coaching/scheme, he can be a pretty good QB. Those don't grow on trees.
I can't imagine any way they would trade him. When the Steelers, Patriots, Packers, etc lose their starting QB for the year, you know their season is over. When the Eagles lose their starting QB, they can still win a super bowl.If you're PHI....I don't see how you'd want to trade Foles.....unless you're ABSOLUTELY blown away by a deal. With him under contract for one more year, him obviously able to run the team and no guarantee Wentz is going to be back in a timely fashion.........it wouldn't make much sense.
That would be a solid move for both parties -- get Foles out of the NFC and get him with a solid organization that is a traditionally solid defensive club.If Ben was definitely planning to retire after next year, I would want the Steelers to trade for Foles (even if they had to give up a first). He's convinced me that with the proper coaching/scheme, he can be a pretty good QB. Those don't grow on trees.
Philly will be getting everyone's A game next year...they are not sneaking up on anyone as defending champs...if Wentz is not ready and Foles is gone that is a good way to get off to a bad start...If you're PHI....I don't see how you'd want to trade Foles.....unless you're ABSOLUTELY blown away by a deal. Exactly. $7 million dollar insurance policy that just won the Super Bowl. Only way I cash out that policy is if I'm offered a top 10 draft pick which could be turned into a franchise type talent. If you're PHI....I don't see how you'd want to trade Foles.....unless you're ABSOLUTELY blown away by a deal. Said it even before the Super Bowl - but yea, unless an offer blows your socks off, you keep him. A 1st at a minimum. Do not care if he is worth spending a first to acquire - maybe not - but he's absolutely worth more to THIS team then a 2nd round rookie would be.If you're PHI....I don't see how you'd want to trade Foles.....unless you're ABSOLUTELY blown away by a deal. If Sam Bradford is worth a mid-ish 1st round pick then Foles (super bowl winning MVP) certainly is. Foles did more in his limited time starting this season than Bradford has his entire career.Said it even before the Super Bowl - but yea, unless an offer blows your socks off, you keep him. Edited: Never mind.Someone may have already answered, but if not... this was the first NFL win where the opponent had more than 600 yards. Though in 2002 Atlanta gave up 645 to Pittsburgh and the game ended in a tie.
Though it's nearly happened but for 600 as the exact cut-off. Jim Kelly's Bills beat Steve Young's 49ers in '92 despite surrendering 598 yards. 2006 Bengals beat the Saints despite giving up 595. Last year Miami gave up 589 to Buffalo in an overtime win.
I believe it was also the first Super Bowl where 1 team played the whole game without a defense...It was also the first game since at least 1960 that an NFL team lost without having to punt the entire game.
Just 1 team?I believe it was also the first Super Bowl where 1 team played the whole game without a defense...
Sure, BB has swung and missed a number of times. Which team or coach hits a home run every time?I'm so glad it came back to bite Belichick in the ###. They actually made at least 1 play...I did see them on the field when Brady fumbled...Just 1 team?
Foles has only been in the league since 2012. He has been the backup to a decent list of QBs in Michael Vick, Alex Smith, and Carson Wentz. His other season was a dumpster fire under a coach that also made Jared Goff and Case Keenum look terrible.QBs sometimes reinvent themselves (Kurt Warner, Rich Gannon, Steve Young, Drew Brees, etc.) after a change of scenery/coaching. My kid sister had that same coat in 1969. It was inspired by a coat worn by Twiggy I believe.https://www.instagram.com/p/BezPUgqlRnv/?hl=en&taken-by=####jerry

Clarification: Turns out this isn't true. But according to Pro-Football-Reference, it is only the second playoff game in the SB era (Cardinals vs. Packers in the 1982-83 wild card game) and 12th overall. It was also the first game since at least 1960 that an NFL team lost without having to punt the entire game.
Right before halftime, Patrick Chung got knocked out in a group tackle of Jay Ajayi. We know this because Ajayi got up and immediately looked to the Pats sideline and pointed to Chung then put his hands together next to his face to signal "He's Sleeping" AKA, Knocked Out.
Then when the trainers came and got him off the ground, he was obviously dazed and wobbly. He wobbled all the way to and around the sideline. I'm thinking, "That sucks for him. Won't be able to play in the 2nd half of the Superbowl."
And then next thing I see is Patrick Chung making a tackle late in the 3rd quarter.
Does concussion protocol not pertain to the Super Bowl? Did I miss something?
Well if the doctors on SaintsRdabestforums.com who saw the game on TV said he shouldn't be playing, I think it's clear he didn't belong out there. Far be it for the medical personnel on the sidelines would bother conducting actual physical assessments in the face of that expertise.Did I miss in this thread ...
Any discussion about the Patriots flouting concussion protocol with Patrick Chung? From another board:
Yea, the signings BB and team pull off the be scrap heaps are the most impressive part of this, imo. Amendola, Wes Welker, Edelman, Chris Hogan, Dion Lewis - weren't all these guys cut outright early on? The Pats do a great job of plugging unheralded players into their system and keep on chugging. That's a big part of why losing Cooks didn't hurt the Pats for long - next guy up in the system and they keep chugging. Almost no other teams could do that. Now, would the Eagles have been screwed if Jeffrey went down? No - they had Mack Hollins who has stepped up big in moments, they could have split Burton out wide, etc.. But I think it might have slowed them down longer, I was impressed (and even said during the game that after halftime I expected them to have a new post-Cooks gameplan) at how well the Pats are plug n play with these WR's.Sure, BB has swung and miss a number of times. Which team or coach hits a home run every time?
Here's how teams have fared since the start of free agency and the salary cap in 1994.

BB has coached on 5 title winning teams, went to 9 SB's and 13 AFCCG's with NE. He also won 2 titles as the DC with the Giants. And the DEN / PIT / GBP teams behind the Pats had their success with multiple coaches over the same time frame.
So go ahead and cite how lucky BB has been and how his career has been filled with terrible signings and dumber decisions.
Well then that's just a brilliant play by the Philly defender knowing that it's not likely going to be called and worst case scenario they have to replay the down. The refs let the last hail mary play go like they normally do, but they missed an obvious illegal contact penalty on Philly well down field when the defender inexplicably knocks out Hogan at the 35 yard line. Should have been 5 yards and another shot for NE from mid field.
The Patriots actually announced on Twitter that he was gone for the game (concussion). I don’t know who specifically put him back out there despite the concussion, but it falls on BB.Did I miss in this thread ...

Yeah well the defender mugged clement on the two point conversion attempt. I don't disagree and I'm glad they let them play and I'm definitely glad of the outcome. I'm just saying, should have been a flag. I'm glad they don't call PI in those hail marys because everyone is pushing/fighting for the ball. This one was out of nowhere and he got away with it.Yeah well the defender mugged clement on the two point conversion attempt. They let them play...
Exactly, you could play that game all day.......how many screenshots are there of Brady in the pocket with his Tackles arm around the neck of the DE and not a single flag. Overall the refs didn't blow any game enders like the Ertz TD so I guess you live with it but they miss alot.Yeah well the defender mugged clement on the two point conversion attempt. They let them play...
How about if Cleveland is on the clock with the #4 pick and Saquon Barkley is still out there and they offer us the pick for Foles? If you're PHI....I don't see how you'd want to trade Foles.....unless you're ABSOLUTELY blown away by a deal. You must still be drunk today.I believe Cooks was the one that was announced as being out for the game, not Chung (unless they also said that about Chung and I missed it).The Patriots actually announced on Twitter that he was gone for the game (concussion). Yea, and Clement was literally shoved with two hands before he could catch the pass on the two point conversion. I think the refs were basically trying to stay out of it as much as humanely possible. No one wanted to see a Super Bowl with constant flags, and the feedback on penalties ruining the game was getting loud. That's true. They could call holding on practically every offensive snap. Third video down
Apparently the Pat fan section of the Internet isn't happy with the non-call.![]()
I agree. I'm glad they let them play. This one just seemed so unnecessary and isolated out in the open. Not like he was making a play on the ball or anything. I think he's lucky they didn't flag him. If you need to a bail out call on the last play of the game to get another chance for a Hail Mary, you didn't play well enough to win. There are only about 1,862 things the Patriots did wrong that game. Patriot fans pointing their collective fingers at a non-call on the last play (where everyone knows you are not going to get a call) is just plain silly. That's true. They said Chung as well.I believe Cooks was the one that was announced as being out for the game, not Chung (unless they also said that about Chung and I missed it).
Yeah, they announced Chung and then he was breaking someone down and making a tackle, which surprised me as well as DougB and jonessed.
What a silly hot take. NE made incredible half time adjustments on offense. Exactly like the AFC Championship game this year and the Super Bowl last year, they went from an offense that was getting harassed and giving up pressure and struggling a bit to one that was giving Brady an hour in the pocket to throw and slicing through the defense with ease. I have no idea how they keep doing that over halftime but my best guess is they're making adjustments at halftime while the other team is content to sit on their defensive gameplan because it was working in the first half and they don't take into account that the offensive gameplan is going to change.need2know said:Belicheck was outcoached all night
Because Philly made great defensive adjustments? If anything the Pats' defense was the better one in this game (especially in the second half), the Pats just left points on the board with a couple of offense players (Gostowski and Brady) who are usually among the Super Bowl's clutchest botching plays that they should have made.need2know said:Where were the great def adjustments? The only guy that can hang with Belichick was in Philly last night, and it's a good thing for Philly. Pederson went on fourth and one and ran a trick play. Bless him. This was the two best coaches in the league at their best.
I cant remember the last time BB looked like the 2nd best coach on the field. The only guy that can hang with Belichick was in Philly last night, and it's a good thing for Philly. Pederson went on fourth and one and ran a trick play. Bless him.
I hardly fail to see how a former HC as def. coordinator hurts, either, though that could be a case of staying there once you get there. As soon as I saw Schwartz there, I felt a little suspect as an anti-Pats guy.
