Good posting.  Really looking forward to this fight.  Watched the breakdown on HBO.  Damn, I like punchers & hate runners but Ward does not fit the runner.   Also his upbringing-white dad-black mom caused him some early problems.   Both guys are very likeable.   Still have to go with the bigger puncher, but Vegas has Ward as a slight favorite.

Yeah there's no real heel here to help sell this thing, imo.

Ward's unique. I don't think guys like Crawford or Mayweather were "runners" necessarily, but they (like Ward) are guys who are very intelligent, figure fighters out, and then adapt and just out-land their opponent by a wide margin, while staying out of harm's way. Crawford has a little more power, Ward has a good inside game, and latter-day Floyd was even a cut above the other two in terms of defensive ability. It doesn't exactly generate the same interest that massive punchers do, but it's effective. And GGG's a massive puncher, but I think his box office draw is actually hurt by the fact that he delivers his power in such a fundamentally sound fashion, instead of swinging from his heels.

Really as a NoCal guy I'm too biased to really think about this one clearly. I think Ward has a slight edge, but no rational person would be surprised if Kovalev retains his belts.

Crawford pretty good puncher & likes to mix it up.  Really underrated as a puncher.   Mayweather bothered me because he was defense first.  He did fight everyone though.  GGG vrs Canelo would be awesome, but the fight this Saturday should be great.   Wish one of them was a ########, but both very likeable.  Still hoping for Kovalev.   I think he will press the fight & Ward counters inside.

Great matchup.  It's about time.

So stoked for this fight, trying to quote/reply to some recent post but cant even ####ing figure out how to after 10 minutes so #### it. Jeez FBGs has #### the bed with the msg board these days. Do i need to read FAQ's on how to ####ing quote a post on a laptop these days. Hot damn

What I wanted to respond to was about Ortiz. Watched that fight 4-5 rounds as well before turning off, he looked good but how is he considered a top HW,? He's kinda slow, IIRC he is pushing 40 yrs old as well, ilov80's called him best HW in the world. What happened to Deontay Wilder?!

Im rooting for Ward as well. Think it should be good, but SOG has never done anything to not make me root for him - surprisingly given his stature but I think that also goes back to his personality/demeanor - Beet Dat Russian!

I will say he looked awful in that fight. Everything I saw of him before that was incredibly impressive. A guy with power who threw great combos. I like Wilder a lot, but he's kind of sloppy and has a real problem with his hand.

Krusher fan here. F Ward. He barely ever fights and when he does, he still doesn't fight.
Honestly not sure Ive seen a full Kovalev fight TBH :bag: . I was hyped when he fought B-Hop but couldnt watch that night. Im not a Ward fan, so yes I would agree with the fact he needs to/should have been more active the last couple years considering his status - basically ever since he won the Super Six. I think he has 3 fights in last 4 years, and thats laughable for a arguable top 5 P4P boxer that hasnt had a major injury.

A meaner but less technical GGG is probably the best description for Kovalev. He literally killed a guy a couple years ago and it didn't phase him at all. All reports indicate he's a really nasty dude.

Tommy Hearns was mostly before my time, but I've seen most of his big fights and being from Detroit, he's my favorite. I feel like he's some kind of unicorn that the entire boxing world has been chasing since he retired. There just might not ever be another guy as long, lean, powerful, aggressive and skilled as the The Motor City Cobra.

Twitter scorecards were everywhere from Kovalev by 4 to draw to Ward by 3. Need a rematch. Great stuff tonight by both.

I think for the first time I might agree with Roy, this may have been a draw. Krush won most early rounds but not all, Ward won more of the middle likely, and Ward probably won more of the latter. Ward got knocked down. Krush didnt do as much in the 2nd half, Ward looked more energized. Not only do I want a re-match, Id like to watch this again this week,

thought it could go either way but knew it would go to ward when it went to decision.  Kovalev should have done more.  Cant let it be that close.  Props to Ward tho.  great fight.

Based on Ward's schedule we can expect a rematch in 2021.
This was his 3rd fight this year. I'm not crazy about Roc Nation overall, but he's been on a pretty regular schedule since he signed with them and moved to 175, except for one fight that got nixed because of injury, IIRC.

I'm a big Ward stan, but I also don't think that criticism really holds water anymore.

I had Ward by a point. He obviously doesn't crack like Kovalev does, but I think he won the majority of the rounds in the second half of the fight, once he had SK timed better and started to look comfortable. I also thought his conditioning was much better.

I had bet the draw at 25-1. But unless someone scored a round 10-10, it wasn't possible due to the knockdown.

Ward fought 2 easy tune-up fights before Kovalev.Ward has fought 5 times in 5 years. He absolutely deserves criticism for his activity or lack of.

"Criticism for his activity."

I suppose he could've fought Kovalev and Stevenson back-to-back, Diggstown style? Maybe fight barefoot? Or with those novelty boxing gloves?

The layoff sucked, but if you're going to say "5 times in 5 years", making sure to encapsulate the promotion-related hiatus, it's clear you have a bone to pick. "Four times in 17 months", and "3 times in 9 months" are also true statements.

Smith was a warm-up, and understandable given he was coming off the layoff and moving up. Brand was also a walkover. Barrera, I'd argue, is a decent LHW prospect, but was in no way ready for Ward. But who is? it's Kovalev and Ward, then a gap, then Stevenson, then a biiiiiig gap to everyone else.

This is a dumb argument. Both dudes deserve credit for taking a tough fight.
