Was travelling so did not see it live but saw it the next day.

Few things:
-Haney won most (all ?) of the rounds in which he did not get knocked down and factor in the point deduction for Garcia and its a close fight despite the three knockdowns.

- As (sort of) suspected, Haney is proving chin-y and will have trouble with anyone with legit power.

- Haney's camp completely botched the Garcia weight issue. I figure it was ego/arrogance that allowed this to happen. Not having a re-hydration clause in the contract and essentially allowing Garcia to miss weight (granted, Garcia had to pay Haney for this but still) and then have no re-hydration clause is crazy. Garcia was much the bigger man between the two in terms of weight (guess Garcia learned after Tank had that clause in their fight).

Fury-Usyk on May 18 (finally)
5 X 5 card on June 1 will be one of the better overall cards in a good while.
Canelo fights in early May (too bad its not against Benavidez).
Inoue fights two days after the Canelo fight.
Josh Taylor/Catterall fight in late May.

I dont mind not doing a rehydration clause so long as you make weight. But doing that AND moving forward when he didnt make weight, that was a big mistake. Haney sucked himself down to 140 and garcia did not have to drain himself and that was a huge advantage. I think if garcia had to make weight that fight is a draw or possibly a haney SD. But either way Haneys camp messed that up big time. I think a rematch at 147 would be very interesting but they have to both make weight otherwise its just not the same.

Fury/Usyk this weekend (finally).

With Fury looking in good shape, this is his fight to lose. Fury won't get knockout but Usyk could possibly out box him but Fury has a Riddick Bowe-like quality where he is a better boxer than you would think for a such a big man.

While I like that the Saudi's have the money to put on these good cards, I'm still unsure how I feel about a 6 pm-ish ET ring walk for the main event.

Fury by UD.

I'll take it, actually prefer it to a near-midnight ET start.

Fury physically looks better than he has in a long time. Yet, I can't overlook Uzyk's spartan-like training for his whole career and his brilliant boxing mind. Of course, Fury's no slouch in that department and has the objectively more impressive height, weight and reach advantage.

Very hard to pick. In a pinch, I'll go against the grain and go Usyk by majority decision.

No shame for Fury but well deserved decision for Usyk. Exceptional fight though, a lock for Fight of the Year and best heavyweight fight I've seen since Joshua-Ruiz I but at a higher skill level. Boxing won tonight

Usyk at the hospital. Apparently Fury broke his jaw in the middle rounds. That dude is a warrior.
Seems that wasn't the case.

"Oleksandr Usyk, the new undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, broke down in tears but shrugged off concerns that he might have suffered a fractured jaw while defeating Tyson Fury in a riveting battle in Riyadh. After he was taken to a local hospital for a routine MRI scan which cleared him, Usyk returned to the Kingdom Arena where he had beaten Fury on a split decision.

Talking freely, without any apparent pain, Usyk confirmed that he had needed just four stitches to close a small cut above his eye."

Good. Still a gd warrior

We have sure come a long way since Friday night fights on HBO. I didn’t even know the fight was happening until the night of. I ended up watching the replay.

Two of the best heavyweights in the world fought a great fight to unify the belts and nobody even knows it happened.

Crazy.

Boxing are itself looking for bigger and bigger quick profits and ignoring the continued building and growing of its fanbase.

"Nobody" in the United States. This was a massive event in Europe and many parts of Asia. Heavyweight boxing is no longer an American phenomenon, for better or worse

Crazy how things have changed. From 1934 to 1999, only one non-American held the linear heavyweight title (Ingo Johansson, who lost it back to Floyd Patterson less than a year later in his 1st defense). Since 1999, only one American has held the linear heavyweight title (Hasim Rahman, who lost it back to Lennox Lewis less than 7 months later in his 1st defense).

The fight had been promoted for the past few months, ESPN even had live updates on their main page once it finally kicked off. Fury is gonna make close to $100 million for the fight so it's safe to say that plenty of people know it happened and watched it live

Taylor/Catterall this Saturday. No belts at stake but loser is essentially done. Catterall robbed in first Taylor fight back in 2022 and is the fav in this one after Taylor's dreadful showing losing to Teofimo last Summer. Pending another robbery (this fight is in Leeds, not Scotland), will take Catterall by UD.

Upcoming:
- June 1 card in Saudi Arabia a little less impressive with the Beterbiev injury derailing the fight with Bivol. (still decent card but...)
- Tank Davis returns June 15 with a fight against Frank Martin (meh) with Benavidez on the undercard.
- Teofimo fights on June 29 on espn. Teo's fight-to-fight unpredicablity makes him an interesting watch nonetheless.
- Estrada/Rodriguez on the same date as the above fight, this is the better of the two by a good margin.
- Shakur Stevenson in early July (never been a fan of his, very light resume IMO despite his " skills ").
- Tyson/Paul mid-July, have zero plans onw watching this.
- August 1 card from Los Angeles (backed by the Saudi's) , the return of Terrace Crawford and a very solid undercard (Pitbull Cruz, Tim Tszyu, David Morrell).
