***Official Texas Rangers 2013 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

RIP this season imo. Don't give away anything to win now on a rental. Far too many holes.
Good posting. Play it out, anything could happen, but don't rent a player that you are just going to lose. Oakland is having a fairy tale season, and I think Detroit is too strong to beat in a 7-game series anyway.

4:40pm: A deal sending Garza to the Rangers "will get done," according to a source of Jim Bowden of ESPN (Twitter link). He says that Neil Ramirez is expected to be the featured piece going back to the Cubs. Ramirez has been scratched from his minor league start today, Bowden further tweets.

Nothing more on this since.

Well, this rotation looks really good if/when healthy - Darvish, Garza, Holland, Perez, Ogando.

Then move Ogando back to an already strong bullpen in the playoffs (god willing) or sooner if one of Harrison/Lewis/Tepesch look capable of contributing.

The offense still mostly stinks, but maybe give it a try with pitching this year? I'm cautiously optimistic despite this losing streak. #shamelesshomer

wow, great trade for the Rangers, Garza is an impact player
wish i shared your optimism. i think it's a panic trade on the Rangers part. If Cruz gets suspended, Garza just means that the Rangers finish 3 games out the playoffs instead of 5. Even if Cruz is not suspended, the team still needs another bat.

That was a lot to give up for a rental. And it diminishes the pieces available to go after a Stanton or a Price.

I think this was a sell Olt move while he still has some value. Then again they did this with Chris Davis and look where that got us.

Olt is blocked at his best position and turning 25. True he could be Davis, he could also be Smoak. Edwards has huge upside, but you have to remember he is still in A ball and was a 48th round draft pick for a reason. I like Grimm, but where does he fit in when everyone is healthy.

I like the trade today, just worry it will keep us from getting a Stanton in the summer.

I'm guessing the Rangers have given up hope on dealing for either of those guys in the offseason. Or neither were particularly interested in Olt.

Profar and Perez or GTFO.

Has Profar hurt his trade value by being just average so far this season? Not everyone can be Trout, Manny or Harper, but boy was he hyped to be as much.

He's still really young and has had to deal with lots of distractions finding a place in the field. I still don't know where he fits here long term. The Elvis deal looks really bad now.

Profar is largely miscast right now. He appears to be as close to a pure SS as Elvis is. REally unfair to him trying to be a super -utility guy. With signing of both Elvis and Kinsler in the last year, the team took away his best position and his 2nd best position. As it stand for 2014 Profar or Kinsler has to play LF assuming Profar is not trades for a real OF.

The lack of respect for Elvis in Major League OF is starting to get pretty sad. They will be standing in the infield soon.

How do you not sneak at least one HR out of the park by now?

Oh yeah, really like what Garza brings to the rotation. Inbetween Yu and Dutch, this rotation gets a bit salty.

I forget which year it was that he returned with "20 extra pounds of muscle" pretty sure it was last year. Screamed contract year juicer to me at the time (like everyone).

With only 12 total extra base hits for the year, his locker needs to be moved next to Boomstick, stat.

Holy smokes what happened to these guys? Not bad enough to be sellers, not good enough to be buyers. Stuck in mediocre limbo. This Garza trade is going to look very bad, LA Angels bad.

Let's be honest, the offense if everything went well this season (see 1st month) was never going to be better than pretty good and probably closer to average. Well, everything has not gone well with offense, and the only starter who has not been on IR is Holland. Eventually the smoke and mirrors, and wining because the rangers are a good organization goes away when there just is not enough actual baseball talent to go around.

Holes to fill: Catcher (AJ Pierzynski is a FA), LF, and DH

They need to address the profar/andrus situation. Andrus can be traded for a legit LF. DH and catcher should be addressed thru FA (McCann?)

I like the starting rotation (if the resign Garza and people get healthy). I think the bullpen has enough key pieces.

Cruz is a free agent and "good" Moreland is still just a mid-level 1st baseman. The only everyday positions accounted for in 2014 are 3B, SS, 2B and CF.

Andrus is signed for 9 more years at decent money. Aren't many landing spots for that kind of contract even if he is still very young.

Great posting.

Andrus is not going to be traded. Granted his production has sucked this season, but I think you look at him, Beltre and Kinsler and you say you are happy with 3/4ths of your infield for the next three seasons. Martin isn't a free agent until 2019. Looks like you might have CF taken care of for sometime.

If you can somehow sign Garza, then you have a great rotation situation with 5 guys under 30 that you have under control for sometime.

Still, this team needs some corner bats and they need them now. The David Murphy experiment has been the unspoken failure of this season. He just did not deliver on what many people (including myself) thought he could do for this team.
