***OFFICIAL 'The Following' TV Series Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Feel like I'm just a glutton for punishment anymore.

Last 10 minutes felt like a ### #### episode of Dawson's Creek.

I'd like to confess that other than getting some nice looks at the gorgeous Jessica Stroup, I have no idea why I spent that period of 13 x 44 minutes (so about 9.5 hours) of my life watching this mess. Satisfying elements were the departures of one of those despicable twins, the revolting Emma, that smirking pudgy blonde witch and Lily Gray. And hopefully Joe will never, ever, ever be seen again.

The show actually could have been decent, even with the crap writing, if James Purefoy were not such an atrocious actor (at least in this crapfest). His Joe was a sneering, sniveling ham whom no one would follow to the street corner, let alone devote their lives to his "cause" (whatever that was).

Don't want to see Natalie Zea again until she gets those eyebrows under control.

Just awful. It will be an interesting test of my willpower to see if I can resist watching S3.

So you know going into a closet to save Claire is a trap. So let's go in without looking behind us, and then stand there having tea until someone shows up to hit us with sleeping gas.

Come on... he doesn't kill Joe???? After two whole seasons of that??

And CLAIRE?? WHAT??? All that b.s., she doesn't kill Joe either, and then she leaves Ryan. I'm left at a loss on this whole thing.

I didn't know who Jessica Stroup was, so I looked her up. I still don't know who she is, because what I found online was a whole lot hotter than anything I can remember seeing on The Following.

Only thing left to wonder is who picked up Luke (or Mark, whichever it was)? My guess is the news reporter lady.

Very good guess IMO.

Such a trainwreck.

Jessica Stroup was Max, Ryan's niece. She is that kind of gal that I really like in certain cases - blue-eyed with dark hair. She can also act, which I sort of suspected when I caught the occasional episode of the 90210 reboot, but is much more evident when she's around Kevin Bacon and Shawn Ashmore.

The whole gas scene was ridiculous. First off, such compounds don't actually exist except perhaps in the control of elite militaries, and even those, if they do even exist, take a long time to work and have unreliable and differential effects. *Nothing* works that fast. Moreover, that canister's output was tiny and the room was fairly large, but of course they just stood there and sucked it in. Meanwhile, Luke or Mark or whichever twin was the buffoon bounds down the stairs - leaving the door open - and waits for them to collapse. Hardy could have easily moved away from the canister, filled Buffoon Twin full of holes, then rushed up the stairs (or, heck moved five feet away) to catch his breath, then returned to help Claire (and Joe if he wanted to). Frigging stupid.

Yeah, since the reporter wasn't with Ryan at the end, since every relationship of Ryan's who is not Claire (including the reporter once already) turns out to be something she's not, and since it would be too dumb even for this show if that was a person we had not seen before, I'm sure it was Carrie Cooke (the reporter) too. Not sure I'll be back to find out, though.

I know it's just a TV show but it makes me freak out thinking how many crazy people are really out there...
I said something very similiar to my wife the other night. How even though it's television, someone has these ideas in their head to put down on paper. It shows that there are people out there that this stuff is based off of, and that the human mind is capable of having these thoughts.
So the thought occurred to me the other day after the recent hatchet attack and Canada shootings that Islamic terrorism is the real Following. There are a bunch of nut jobs out there in this country and elsewhere looking for a meaning/reason/justification to act on their urges.

Discuss.

Can't we just keep this thread about a terrible tv show we like to watch?

Do we like watching it?

Sorry, wasn't trying to hijack the thread. No need to discuss. Just occurred to me the similarities, since the TV show always freaks me out thinking about the crazies that are out there willing to sign up.

Oh, nononononono. They just *had* to cancel The Bridge, but renewed this piece of chit. And yes, I realize it's two different networks, but same people making the ultimate calls.

Noticed it on the dvr schedule the other day. I tried deleting it, but was over ruled by my wife.

first off, sorry shuke.

2nd, are there any other suckers left? starts up again monday, march 2nd.
I may be a sucker left. I'll watch the first few and see how it is. I can't believe I may still watch, but sometimes it is funny how bad it was. Honestly, it was so bad last season that I honestly couldn't even tell you who died and who lived, so at least that will be a fun surprise to see who's around.

After the horrible premiere I decided to watch all scenes with Bacon, Iceman, and Erin Silver and fast forward through any scenes of the maniacs by themselves. That seemed to work well for the second one. However, I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with Purefoy's assuredly scenery-chomping return.

Ugh, the escape again. Watched the DVR'd version last night. How did Mark get out? Within seconds of the police sirens, somehow he got out while he was still inside.

I'll be honest, I liked the last one. Not because it was a good episode for the season, but because we seem to have found a new serial killer that seems interesting. Nice twist to have him kill the professor. The season has been bad overall, but I like the turn and might keep watching.

I can't quit this show, but it appears as though Fox has done the grunt work for me.

Honestly I'm more bummed about Fox canceling the Mindy Project than this show, anyway.

LOL, Theo gets up after taking a bullet right to the brain. Not a glancing blow, but a shot straight into his brain and not only does he wake up, he musters enough to push Bacon over the railing. Of course Bacon can't hold on, even though he wasn't shot or really hurt. Thank goodness the chopper pilot didn't feel like helping him.

It was actually a better season than last season, but geez they save the stupidest scene till the last. By last, I mean Theo surviving that shot.

ETA: Funny thing is that the end of the show was a really cool setup to what could have been a better season. I liked the ending a lot.

The ending had a very The Dark Knight fell to it. Basically, Hardy is turning into Batman to protect the people he loves.

Agreed. I'll be honest, after the real ending, not the stupid part of Theo getting up with a gunshot to the head, I would watch the next season if they had one. I didn't really want to watch season 2, because I thought having Joe gone would have been better and I was right as the Joe cult/Mark and Luke(?)/Mom serial killer family angle was awful. This season was better than the last one even with all of the stupid stuff. Heck, if this was season 2 and the actual season 2 never happened, they might still be making the show.

ETA: I actually liked him falling off the net after watching the ending, because then I knew he did it on purpose. It just would have been better if he shot Theo in the shoulder or something and kept shooting him while Theo ran towards him and then they went over. Getting up from the head shot, ugh.

Yeah that was kind of dumb. Maybe Theo is the Terminator.

But I liked the ending and how season 3 played out once Michael Ealy got on the show. There is a slight chance that Hulu could pickup season 4, but I am not holding my breath. That looked like it had potential.

I came back for the last 5-6 or so.

ITA with those who thought that the S4 setup was pretty good, and that S4 might have had potential, particularly with no more ridiculous hamfisted cornball Joe chewing every piece of scenery in sight and also no more of the loathsome twins. Once Michael Ealy took over as the villain, Daisy became tolerable, even interesting, as well, without those Mark/Luke azzclowns around. I also liked the setup with Annet Mahendru from The Americans (what a babe) as the face of some new shadow group. If they could have found a way to work in Max (also, what a babe) and Mike into the narrative next season while Ryan did his off-grid vigilante thing, it could have been fun. Of course, they probably needed some new writers, if they didn't completely fire everyone responsible for just about everything in S2 and Joe surviving the S1 finale.

Seems like there are quite a few shows that suddenly figure things out just as they are cancelled.

Yep, it happens. I remember that show Jericho, which somehow got a second season due to fans asking for it to come back. At the end of the comeback season they ended the show really well and left the door open for a really cool next season (if somehow that might happen). They did the same here and while I doubt it will come back, it seemed like it could be a good next season. While the show gets ridiculous all the time, this season was much better than last season and as you said, they cleaned up the loose ends that they probably would have been better off without. Honestly, Theo could have been brand new with no connections to Joe/Joe's teacher/Mark and this season would have been the same. Too many shows (like Heroes) think that fans get attached to the villains so they keep them around and the show suffers.

Finally got caught up with everything. Full of the usual stupid escapes, decision making, etc. not to mention Theo and the shot to the head. Pretty tired of the bloodletting and innocent/tragic loss of life and spent the entire season telling myself I would not be back for season 4.

But as others have said, the ending had me riveted and I think I would be in yet again.

ETA: This stupid show is why I walk around and check all my locks three times every night...
